At 12:12 a.m., he was looking out a second floor window in the 6500 block of South Union Avenue when a bullet whizzed in and struck him in the left hand, police said. He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital and later released.

One year the first homicide wasn't till 3 days after 12:00 New Years and it occurred in the 08th district around 85th and Keaton's. A guy stabbed his wife and left her in the living room till half time of the bears game. If I remember it was on beat 821 a beat heavily populated by police and fire department members.

The ER doctors are doing there jobs! Even medics and surgeons in Iraq & Afghanistan treat the enemy. Working with officers like yourself is just another reason why this job has become $hit.
i agree wholeheartedly that the murder rate would still be over 1000 like the old days if not for the inprovements in battlefield triage. murders are not down at all, just the save rate has gone way up including the price of those saves. war is expensive. worked with a guy in the 90s that lived in the wood was shot twice that i knew of on nye in his own house supposedly by stray whizz bangs. another reason i dont live in englewood.
