(certain) Crime is Down!

  • Robberies are down 19 percent this year, Chicago police officials announced Thursday.

The decrease is due, at least in part, to a heightened focus on specialized “robbery mission teams” — plainclothes officers assigned to conduct surveillance, connect the dots on robbery patterns and deploy to “hot spots” in order to be in the right place at the right time to make arrests.

“The reason that we are so focused on robberies is because if we look at our shootings … murders … the violence that happens across the city — 90 percent of that is people who are involved in street gangs or involved in that kind of a lifestyle,” First Deputy Superintendent Anthony Riccio said at a news conference.

“But when we look at robberies, those are innocent people, those are people walking down the street, going to work, coming home from work, leaving a restaurant, going about their daily lives … it really impacts the every day citizens in the city,” he said.
Thefts are through the roof though - thefts from persons specifically. We used to call those "Robberies" back in the unenlightened days before McCompStat showed Chicago "The Way" of statistical manipulation.

Also lay some blame on the CCSAO. Remember they would reject robbery and say charge them with battery and theft even when you had a good case and have to call for an override. Felony Review was created in late 70s early 80s to "weed out" cases that did not have the elements of a particular crime. Prior to Felony Review detectives approved charges. Felony Review protects the State's Attorney by giving them the best conviction rate they can for the next election. The problem is some victims do not get any justice because the bar can be set too high. They are doing the work of the judge and jury. A supervisor in the SAO, who was candid, said if an ASA in Felony Review sends a marginal case through, and the case is lost the ASA in Felony Review will carry that baggage during their career. So with them it's not just about justice it's about keeping the State's Attorney looking good and not stepping in shit.

Actually, Felony Review was around in the late 60's, I know because I was also around. But, it was a bit less formal and usually was done over the telephone, for advice. But, over the years it has become a tool used by the prosecutor's office to reject any case that they think might be a loser in court or just not worth prosecuting.

for those of you want to vote for garry mccarthy

Gary McCarthy was found “guilty” in March 2006 over an traffic altercation he had in 2005 with two New Jersey police officers. A traffic court judge ruled that Gary McCarthy had blocked vehicular traffic with his police-issued car while he and his wife confronted two plainclothes members of the Palisades Interstate Police at a gas station along the Palisades Interstate Parkway. The officers in question had just issued a summons to McCarthy’s 19-year-old daughter, who was driving another car and became verbally confrontational toward the two police officers whom in essence were enforcing the law. When Gary McCarthy had arrived on scene he was clearly irate and violently confrontational and had to be grabbed by the two police officers whom also confiscated McCarthy’s firearm and handcuffed him as well as restrained his wife when she attempted to grab the gun from the two police officers. The judge fined McCarthy $200 for blocking traffic

Naperville getting three new parks
One of the reasons Naperville ranks among the top cities in America to raise a family is because of all the park amenities available in town.
New this year is Rotary Harmony Park, a feature along the Naperville Riverwalk built by the Rotary Club of Naperville. The organization spent $65,000 to purchase four outdoor percussion instruments placed at the top of Rotary Hill near Aurora Avenue.
Scheduled for a spring 2019 opening is the Jaycees Smart Park. Funded by a $200,000 grant from the Jaycees and private donations, the park will include a landscaped outdoor space between the Naperville Municipal Center and the DuPage River where cellphones and laptops can be used with free Wi-Fi service, solar-powered USB ports and electrical outlets.
Also approved this year was $2.1 million to add 4,000 square feet to Naperville Park District’s Fort Hill Activity Center. The new studio space should be finished next year and will be used for exercise classes, including cycling and dance.
The park district has also earmarked about $11 million for the first phase of a 33-acre park on the city’s southwest side, with construction slated to begin next year. When completed, Southwest Community Park — at Wolf’s Crossing Road and Trumpet Avenue, west of Route 59 and south of 95th Street — will be the district’s eighth largest park facility, not including the two golf courses and three sports complexes, officials have said.
The new park could open in summer 2020 when first phase construction is done.
Among the amenities to be included when the park is completely finished are a challenge course modeled after those seen on TV’s “American Ninja Warrior,” playground areas for younger and older children, a fitness area for older adults or those with mobility issues, two large artificial turf soccer fields, two smaller natural grass soccer fields, two basketball courts, two tennis courts, a sand volleyball area and four pickleball courts.

He's right, usually they seem to sense there is a big bad wolf lurking near and flee. To bad the driver realized something was a foot. They first come threw the alley and see a garage door opened with a possible victim and his vehicle. When they come back, the victims location is unknown and the vehicle's door is now opened. They got spooked by the changes you created and waiting in the dark was a great idea.

With a gun of course. But like my sergeant with 2 master degrees told me was did they ask for the car?
was the gun pointed at the victims?

NO FORCE used ??? right the bad guy was waving the gun around not actually using it.

Its more of a theft by tricking the drivers into thinking they will get hurt not actually being hurt.

I recalled when Special ED has his NIFTY department issued bullet proof vehicle broken into and mystery folder disappeared. Anybody wanna recall how many detective,ET's, TACT team etc etc worked on it?

Not properly identifying crime on paper doesn't make it disappear, as you can put lipstick on a pig, it's still a PIG!

It's the not ENFORCING any of these laws, letting the "community" do exactly as they want to the general public, sure, carjack that old lady, terrorize the Chinese tourists, shop-n-steal as much as you want, retail theft is no longer a real crime, let gangs of roving "yutes" run roughshod over the Mag Mile, then ship them on the El so they can beat, intimidate, ROB, that set of citizens......

When our politicians call for the NON-ENFORCEMENT of society's laws and rules of civility, what actually happens is that politicians are
ENDORSING these crimes. No punishment, no crime.
