Great story out of Homan Square Gang Investigations:
- Off topic but can anyone tell me why a certain gang enforcement supervisor is going Officer to officer in the unit soliciting money for the recently indicted commander johnson?? He’s going up to POs saying they are passing the hat for the commander because he’s a close friend of his and was a good boss who took very good care of him in the past.
When people start asking questions or saying no thanks, as I did this supervisor said, well, there’s always room on the watch for guys like you and it can happen tomorrow so you might want to rethink your choice. Are you kidding me??? Officer in need, a charity, somebody with a big medical issue and I will 100 percent give some money to help. But a indicted commander who stole hundreds of thousands of dollars who I don’t know and did nothing for me??? I once again said no thanks. If I get dumped then I get dumped. It’s on record sarge..
We guess when the illegally cashed Social Security checks stop after 23 years, you gotta make ends meet somehow and pay that lawyer to keep you out of prison.

I know this is a generalization and there were some exceptions but, the higher one got on the job the more lavish the retirement party and send off. For some of the "low in rank" police officers they got the pizza and cake on their last day in the station. I remember some in older stations where they were in sight of prisoners. But sometimes that was funny if the prisoner was lit as he or she may have sung for the retiree or the "gibs me some of that cake I am hungry." When I was younger I went to all the parties. But as I got older I began to hate it as I was on a retirement committee for one boss and found out that after they paid out for the venue, food/bar, gifts there was well over a thousand left over. The money then went to the boss. I was thinking this guy does not need the money. I said maybe everyone that bought a ticket should get some of the surplus back. I was overruled and that changed my outlook on these parties, and I liked the boss. If people decide to honor the retirees at a yearly party and want (not strong armed) to buy a ticket then the highest ranking member and the lowest should be treated the same, both were police officers and nothing more.

No always, but yes, this has been happening for decades. It usually occurs in units where the commander has no morals or scruples. The department could put a stop to it if they wanted to, but I have seen even superintendents and deputy superintendents put the arm on people for free stuff, the higher the rank the bigger the request. If that sergeant was in private industry he would be fired. I went into corporate employment after retiring from CPD and I have seen department heads dismissed for making advances on women in their department or for asking for free stuff from vendors. This should be the case with CPD but it is not. There was a past superintendent who had his community service sergeant ( 1st District) shake down restaurants and theaters for free meals and tickets. That seemed to be her only job. The deputies all jumped in on the free stuff as did a lieutenant in IAD.
That's the reason why I always keep a few fake twenties handy

Ask him about the time he called out a emergency over the radio and the disaptcher kept on saying for everyone to stay off the air, we have a female officer with an emergency and Darling kept on trying to tell the dispatcher that he wasn't a female. It was hilarious. Randy "the voice" Darling.

Retired Sgt. M.K. formerly of the Mounted Unit did the same thing to a PO. He was collecting to buy something for a promoted commander that was leaving the unit, had an envelope with the names of who paid and who didn’t. He squeezed certain people on the watch and this guy stood tall, got the beef but the rumor is that burger eating prick Georgas saved him and got it all hushed. Sarge retired not long after that; karma......screw em all.
I was wondering how long it would be before someone brought this up. This is completely different than trying to strong arm anyone to donate to raise money for some merit hack who fucked up. The mounted unit had a tradition of honoring those who had served in the mounted unit and moved on or retired. This had been going on since well before I got there. Through all these years, the members had freely pitched in to buy the one leaving either a customized ring or a belt buckle to honor the time they had spent there. The newly promoted captain happened to be Paul Bauer. There were several people in the unit that had become a thorn in Paul's side and would find anything at all they could do to try and undermine him. The funny thing is that Paul still bent over backwards to take care of every one of them. When it was learned of Paul Bauer's promotion, this group banded together and decided that they werent going to continue this tradition for Paul and decided to not contribute. The particular P.O. I am accused of strong-arming was well taken care of by Paul especially during the birth of his child but also in other ways. He decided though, that he wanted to be a part of group that was going to make a stand against Paul. He conspired with a new female Sgt (K.M.) who is no longer in the unit now anyway and was trying to take over the afternoon watch, to trap me into saying something inappropriate. He was trying to get me to say that I was going to retaliate on him for not giving money for the gift. His actual allegation was that I wouldn't ever say hello to him and that I gave him a lower efficiency because of this. I kid you not, those were the charges I had to answer to down at IAD. In reality, I had only expressed my disappointment to this officer for his stand on this tradition after all that Paul Bauer had done for him and this was how he repaid him. No threats were made at all. As far as the efficiency, it was exactly the same as the previous one and wasnt lowered and I had copies of each. As far as saying hello, that's my choice and isn't any kind of violation. The IAD investigator and my union attorney got a good chuckle out of this CR. This had occurred during the months long transition where we had only an acting CO that only stopped by occasionally to sign of on paperwork. This was all thrown on the new CO Paul Mack immediately upon his arrival. He had no choice but to obtain a CR against me. Their actual goal besides sticking it to Paul Bauer was to get me moved out of the unit. And Georgas actually pushed Paul Mack to get that to happen. (Cont)

They told me I had to leave and pick a district. No special offers of anything, I was expected to bid out to a district. The reality was that they couldn't make me leave or reassign me but they hoped I wouldn't be aware of that. I learned this from speaking with the union. So I politely told them I wasnt leaving. I then took this opportunity to get some medical issues (both knees replaced) that had needed attention taken care of that I had been putting off for awhile because of loyalty to the unit. Doctor released me back full duty 3 months after last surgery. After returning from medical leave, I still wasnt quite ready to ride horses on the street just yet and was told not to do so by Mack. I did work out my legs and was able to practice with my horse several times in the arena. After a month, I was accused by Mack of lying to him and that I came back before I was ready. At this point, after over 26 years, I had enough and was in a position where I could retire. I filled out the par form and within 2 weeks, I was officially retired.
By the way, I didnt get my ring or belt buckle because that tradition is now dead thanks to these ignorant assholes. The one feeling of satisfaction I get about this is the fact that for years, every one of them donated for EVERY mounted officer that left or retired but now they wont be receiving their deserved ring or belt buckle either.

Great advice once again. That's illegal. Stop telling people to do it. Using your body cam to record interactions with supervisors isn't allowed either. Remember how you're legally required to inform people that your body cam is recording video and audio? That's because it's illegal to record audio without the knowledge of all parties. You also can't use illegal recordings in any subsequent legal proceeding. If you think you get to illegally record someone giving you some order or whatever, and then use that recording as evidence for some lawsuit, you're wrong. You're just recording evidence of your own crime. Not too bright.
Mike Kane is lucky he was not fired when he lied on paper and reversed himself in court. He is a total stroke with zero credibility.

Always remember, when you are promoted via the CPD’s merit system, you will alway be beholden to someone. Eventually, you will be called upon to pay up one way or another.

Looking for contributions for legal expenses from people on the watch. When one copper was ask to contribute, he asked " Did they ever share their traffic money with us? Ever buy any of us lunch?"
That ended it.

My goodness. It appears many of these hacks with phone calls have too much time on their hands and need to be reminded of what it is like to push a beat car answering ghetto drama calls. Maybe they fell off their horse and landed on their heads one too many times. They need to be slapped back to reality.

The Mexican PO is still there even though the CO hates him but he knows to not talk about it now. We’re all there on a phone call anyway and should be glad. Most admit it but some are just dumb. But still not as dumb as newly retired Sgt MK who shot himself in a Cabella’s store parking lot changing grips on a loaded gun. Hillbilly.
1636hrs, I don't think we're legally required to tell people the bodycam is on. You're supposed to when you reasonably can and even that might not be required if the body can is clearly visible to the one being recorded.
ISP is not giving free escorts to sports teams..they are all under signed paid contract with the state and feel free to foia. Then go cry some more cause they are all off duty and making time and a half.
