This is by no means an exhaustive list of wrongdoing - Bill Henry died mere days before his indictment was announced over Silver Shovel. There are a few pending cases at other levels. And this doesn't even touch on the staffers/peons who took the fall for their masters.
So one has to wonder why these assholes aren't all wearing cameras 24/7? After all, if it prevents one single crime, it has to be worth it.

List #1 indicates there is not much turnaround in 45 years in these aldermanic positions. Once they get in it's pretty hard voting them out. List #2 is a pretty good record of catching corrupt aldermen CONSIDERING the Office of The Inspector General is pretty weak. Prior to 2016 there was no oversight whatsoever of the aldermen but when pressure mounted they voted oversight of themselves by the IG office but in a very limited fashion. Remember they make the laws to affect you but not them, just like the US Congress does. The Illinois Attorney General's Office is not set up to investigate public corruption and even if it was look at who's been at the helm all these years. So catching these aldermen falls on the FBI Public corruption squad and US District Attorney's Office for Northern Illinois. There used to be one squad for pc, don't know if there are more now. Think about all the corrupt burbs in the area too. They have to be pretty busy. Also they are political too at the top and determine who they are going after. If you make the aldermen wear cameras they would be the ones striking the deals with the lobbyists for the camera companies. Their cameras would be programed not to pick up any corruption. Considering their past pattern and practice and the number of aldermen caught in corruption there should be a federal consent decree imposed upon them.

All Federal charges and convictions. Where are the state and local investigations and convictions? Have there ever been any? It seems we can't or won't try and clean our own house. Tone it down a bit. These elected officials sacrifice so much surviving on living wages. Many elected official of honor and integrity have resorted to Obama era soup kitchens, food pantries and LINK assistance to get by. Aldermen require additional sustenance so they can best serve those communities of the poor, the forgotten and the disadvantaged. It takes lots of money to help others and continue their heartwarming good work.
Taxes are so high in the city that the lawmakers themselves must supplement their incomes by any means possible. Not to defend their actions, but taxes have been on the rise for so long. Every time you turn around a new tax is proposed and implemented by the tax writing legislative bodies. One can see the temptation to do wrong in order to pay those tax bills on time. Blame the taxes, the accompanying blatant unaccountability for those tax generated revenues or that leftist dog whistle of trickle down economics, not our beloved public servants.

What is really interesting is that all caught were caught by Federal authorities. You would think that somewhere sometime the local justice system would nail one of the crooks. That's right the Chicago Political Code comes into play. Hope Burks goes to jail and never gets out. Good chance given his age.
The only thing term limits would do is put even more crooks in power that you will have to pension. Better the crook you know then the crook you don't.
Anyone who think term limits will help is delusional. Just look at your new Mayoral choices, all Machine people and all one party. Until Chicago voters realize they have a two party choice the dictators will rule. 100 years of Democratic Machine thievery should be enough.

So becuse it would be imposssible to know how many police officers there have been since 1973 let’s just say the same 12,500 officers (the number they always use of how many police officers there are), worked, that would mean 1875 officers were indicted over that time frame. Of course no where near have been but we are the ones who need to wear cameras and we are the ones always told about ethics, integrity, professionalism and transparency.
This means 15% of all Aldermen get caught! Think of all the others getting away with it. That probably puts us at 25 or 30% of all aldermen are corrupt.

But even going back years and decades before that, 'rumor had it' that most Traffic Tickets could be made to disappear if you 'made a cash contribution' to the Alderman's 'campaign fund'(/s). The Swinarski Family were powerhouses of that era (Don's father, Ted Swinarski).
I never got any traffic tickets (that's true) so I never needed needed the Swinarski family services.
Chicago should have ONLY 1 mayor and 10 aldermen. No reason to have 50 aldermen/50 wards. Look at New York and Los Angeles
Be wary of some of the incumbent aldermen's opponents. While "things" are being sorted out, sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't. The exception is Arena.....we know all about this devil who moved into the ward to undermine the people there.

50 aldermen have drawn a million or so dollars a year in slush funds.
Fifty alderman times a million dollars is 50 million dollars. Times 20 years is a billion dollars. Probably more, because their little yearly slush fund is more than a million.
Not counting campaign contributions. Which aren't that much, to be honest, because after all they are merely aldermen representing shitty neighborhoods in a third-tier midwestern city. Small potatoes. Granted their spots because they were able to organize a few thousand people to come out and vote for them.

There's only two men on the City Council worth a damn, and who are avowed friends of the Police. The rest can rot in their own corruption.

Previous response to the "embarrassed Chicagoan never got posted, as this one probably won't either. But is there someone holding a gun to your head? Are there other career opportunities for a law enforcement office with such vast political insight as yourself. Its hard to understand how someone, claiming to be as disillusioned as yourself would remain in such a cesspool. Is it true that Chicago police officers earn more than about 85% of the general population. Reading the comments posted here you can see what a great sense of humor many CPD have. Other posting and constant complaints underscore how the department should never have done away with the MMPI given by the shrinks.
You can almost figure the amount of time some CPD bloggers have when you read about them suggesting to contact the media. Anyone with any time on the job would tell you the media are NOT your friends. So if you feel exploited by the City, its politicians and the CPD administrators, you should be aware that to the media you are just fodder, most with any time on the job figure that out.
When reading all the carping about all the bosses, all the politicians and everything else about the city you claim to hate, it make s you wonder why you bother to stay on this job. Because when you stay, and piss and moan, it kind of makes you look like assholes. Seriously.

Putting cameras on Aldermen would require the CPD to double the detective division to keep up with all the new crimes on those videos.

A short note to FTO's. Please advise your recruits that communication with members of the media is ill advised. Most officers will figure this out when they read about an incident they were witness to and the incident they read about in print doesn't match up with the one they witnessed/or reported on. Other officers will discover how the media operates after they trip over their dicks and find themselves the scorned topic of tomorrow's column.
So...@AldermanSolis was holding it for the Oakleys? & @AldermanMunoz22 Holding it for the Homans? or the Trumbulls?
