JVD Attacked in Prison
- Former Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke, who was convicted of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Laquan McDonald, has been moved out of an Illinois prison and taken to Connecticut.
Van Dyke, 40, is in the low security Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Conn., about an hour outside of New York City, as he serves his six-year and nine-month sentence for the fatal shooting.
Those close to Van Dyke said he was beaten up at the Connecticut facility. Sources said the beating happened within three hours of him arriving at the facility. No further information was immediately provided on the incident.
So where are all the "prison reform" advocates now, seeing as how an inmate was beaten?

How can someone like JVD be "safer" at this low security facility when he was attacked within 3 hours of his arrival??? Some people won't be happy until they literally get their "pound of flesh..." from this man. It sickens me how this is allowed to happen and how much he and his family have had to endure. Anyone involved in the beating should immediately be moved out of this “low security” jail and sent to a high security prison. We should have the national fop call for the resignations of all supervisors along with the warden from that prison. If they can’t be fired, they should be transferred to other prisons throughout the state. This would certainly ensure better treatment for him no matter what prison he is in.
All that "low security" means in this instance is the animals have fewer constraints on them.

The news of JVD’s beating is tragic! I have a simple idea. If he comes back to Chicago for re-sentencing EVERY Chicago Police Officer should go to 26th and California in a show of support. It would be great to swamp the entire courthouse, fill the courtroom, fill the hallways,fill the staircases. Make the whole damn place a sea of blue AND white shirts. No one will be singled out from the throng of supporters because there will be too many! No other business can be done because of the crowd. It would be a peaceful show of support for JVD, his family and the CPD! It’s something we all can do to show solidarity in a dignified manner!

I thought that prisons are aware that certain types of inmates are vulnerable or prone for attacks by other inmates. To put him in general population was a horrible decision. I hope they take the appropriate action to protect him.

I think who ever transferred him and placed him in general population knew what was being done. Totally intentional. I pray for him.
The Illinois Department of Corrections should be publicly held accountable for the transfer of JVD. Most likely local prison officials will claim it was because they were fearful for his safety. Well IDC how did that prisoner transfer and protection strategy work out for you. More importantly it failed to work well for JVD. My point here is JVD attorney's should ensure all appropriate prison policies, security and transfer procedures were properly followed. The same for the receiving penal institution. This includes family and attorney notifications. Secrecy is one thing stupidity is another. Hold their feet to the fire especially if they failed to carry out their duties faithfully. The prison attacker(s) must be punished for their crimes and removed from the minimum security facility. Its the right thing to do.
JVD got railroaded. Now 23-hr-day solitary. I support proper and mature 1st amendment auditors and I support law and order and good cops. This is BS and JVD got the shaft. Chiraq, indeed.

I once worked corrections on the night shift during college. This bullshit happens more than you will ever know. Admin officials know who and when a specific inmate is being moved. They set it up for favors from friends, political hacks, about every kind of jag you could imagine. This is what happened to JVD, plus he does not qualify for federal time.

Where I worked, they took higher seniority people and screwed them over, "firing" them, only to have the union bring them back, suspend people for ridiculous reasons, etc. In my own case, my father was in the hospital (minor stoke/T.I.A) and I had 3 doctors sign paperwork for Family Leave (FMLA), only to have the company nurse harass and question me. (Illegal?) My boss told me "they're screwing with you because you have 30 years." I asked my boss, what do I do? "F-'em!"
My point is, when you see your fellow officers taunted, screwed over, passed over on promotions, you can easily, easily get disillusioned. Easily. Don't screw with the newer folk. You have to pamper, baby and pacify them. Screw with the one who can think for them self, screw with the the person who will not suck up. Screw with the higher seniority guy/gal. "F" with who you can. Demoralize. Beat the troops down. Sad.

My bil works for illinois doc. He says there are all kinds of rumors floating around about why he was transferred. The one he believes is that his lawyer made a big stink about something so they sent him off as punishment for his lawyer being a jagoff. Just more trouble than he was worth. Plus they can screw with you if they want to.

Maybe you read this but thought I'd pass it along. Connecticut appellate attorney Jennifer Blagg said she and another attorney were talking to him about the state's attorney general filing, asking the Illinois Supreme Court to review Van Dyke's sentence.

Here is the website for the prison, they have contact infor and a "voice a concern" by each inmates name. No photo of JVD yet and release date says "UNKNOWN". I think the National FOP or just suing the hell out of them would be the best bet. It can't hurt to complain via the links on their site but I doubt it will do any good. The attorney general for Illinois, kwame raoul, should be outraged that an Illinois prisoner was attacked in a Connecticut prison. He should be howling and strutting around like a peacock just like he did when he was trying to get jvd resentenced. None of our aldermanic candidates have anything to say about jvd being beaten, they had plenty to say when he was sentenced. All phoney baloney phucks, every last one of them.

The only thing Special-K is outraged about is he didn't throw the first punch. He's a shine ing example for our children's civic lesson.
1. Anyone formerly law enforcement is considered a free shot target. Anyone. This goes double for snitches and triple+++ for pedos.
2. State prison in state of conviction for former law enforcement = effective solitary for protected. Solitary = you eat what you get on the tray. That's it. Think about that.
3. Federal BOP, in somewhat distant state, per BOP policy of first bed open meeting requested terms, is the norm.
4. BOP security classification Low is one step above the lowest, Minimum, lowest being no fences. Low being fences, plus twice daily counts, plus no doors on cells/rooms, plus, depending upon degree of over capacity, 3 to 5 inmates per cell/room. Plus, if implemented, controlled movement of inmates, as in, from one unit to another, for whatever purposes.
5. There is effectively no such thing as general population. Everyone is general population except those in segregation unit. Seg unit is solitary.
6. Again, every former law enforcement is considered persona non gratis. Thus, if you are known to be former law enforcement, your entire term served will be either choosing solitary or cocked and hot 24/7/52.
7. BOP has guardian responsibilty and, thus, liability, especially vulnerable in Low and Minimum Security facilities, but legally in all security levels.
8. BOP Security classification of indiviual inmates is calculated by several factors. No one gets to start their term of imprisonment in a security level that the BOP has not established by calculating said inmate's risk of committing violence score.
9. Distance of facility is based upon inmate designated projected location of release at end of serving term of imprisonment. Initially as near to same as first open bed on date of beginning of term.
The population dynamics are the usual:
White
Black
Latino
There are always shotcallers for each.
It is it's own world, it's own "social" structure and has it's own ways and means to navigate.
As a rule, all BOP staff want no problems. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Any problems leading to violence equals liability.
Most inmates incarcerated in a Low just want to do the fucking time, eat as well as the chow hall + commisary makes possible and pass the time with as little damage done due to boredom.
So, options being solitary or gen pop, if you knew them, you'd choose gen pop.

There's no way anyone will ever convince me this was anything but an intentional set-up, condoned by prison officials both here and in Connecticut. It has to be more than coincidental that Jvd gets transferred shortly at Kwame starts his shit about reviewing the sentence. Probably reasoning that the sentencing was initiated by the Judge and not negotiated with VanDyke or his attorney, these fuckers figure they'd find a way to stick it to him and throw him to the wolves. Hey, we're just finding out what the FBI and the Atty General, and the DOJ did with Trump so nothing these bastards do should surprise us
Has it been determined yet whether this is related to him being a former cop? It's pretty easy to get your head kicked in prison for some of the most minimal things. Just a guy thinking he was disrespected might do it.
