NYPD Tragedy
- A New York City police detective was shot and killed by friendly fire Tuesday night while responding to a report of a gunpoint robbery at a cellphone store, Commissioner James O'Neill said.
"This appears to be an absolutely tragic case of friendly fire," an emotional O'Neill said at a late-night news conference.
Det. Brian Simonsen, 42, was struck in the chest as multiple officers fired on the suspect at a T-Mobile store in Queens, O'Neill said. Simonsen, a 19-year NYPD veteran, was put in a squad car and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Sgt. Matthew Gorman was shot in the leg, O'Neill said. A passerby stopped and drove him to the hospital in his car. He is in stable condition.
The suspect, a 27-year-old man with an extensive criminal record, was armed with an imitation firearm, O'Neill said. He was wounded and is hospitalized in stable condition.
"Make no mistake about it, friendly fire aside, it is because of the actions of the suspect that Det. Simonsen is dead," O'Neill said.
We don't know yet what charges the arrestee is facing in New York, but we know what he wouldn't be facing if this happened here in Crimesha's Cook County.
Deepest sympathies to the NYPD - we can't imagine what you are going through at this moment.

Prayers for our brother, his family, those who still serve, and for those who have served. Sadly there are no winners here.
Small world, Det. Brian Simonsen brother-in-law is CPD. RIP
R.I.P. Detective Simonsen
Thank You for your service.
That was always my biggest fear. It would be devastating to accidentally shoot another cop.
Sorry For Loss
An absolute tragedy, my prayers to all involved and the officers family.
R.I.P. and most loving, deepest sympathies to all my NY brothers & sisters
May he RIP Godspeed brother!
Foxx needs to go. She is much more on the side of criminals that any P.D.
SAD
Rest in Peace our NYPD Brother
Also hope help is provided to those involved.
Kimmie would be looking to charge the officers and make the offender the victim.
Well, we did have won "the bad guys lost" crime/police story in Chicago this week.
Chicago police and University of Chicago busted some "youths" who had done an armed gun robbery in Morgan Park then led police on a wild car chase, crashed their (stolen?) cars on parked cars on the Midway, then the perps fled and tried to hide in University of Chicago class rooms, but were found by police with sniffing dogs.
The University of Chicago Maroon newspaper went so far as to print one of the perps (dressed in a T-Shirt and sagging pants below his butt and peni*) as he was led off in hand cuffs.
Lots of liberals are making comments that it is very unfair to print the perp's photo. But, most regular folks are saying
GREAT

Left behind in Chicago
Lori Lightfoot would fire everyone. Read some of her opinions she gave while on the police board. Disgusting.
First off, my prayers are with the family of Det. Simsonsen.
Secondly, I'm glad the NYPD Commissioner has the balls to not sugar coat it.
"Make no mistake about it, friendly fire aside, it is because of the actions of the suspect that Det. Simonsen is dead," O'Neill said.
I can't even imagine what Supt. Numbnuts would say if it happened in Chicago, or how people would try to blame anyone but the offender for what happened.
How about charging the 27 year oldd suspect with 1st. degree murder??
God Speed
Here in Chicago, we are bogged down with this
gay liar public money waster J. Smollett.
We vow that this death shall not have been in vain.
In the name of our fallen brothers, we will prosecute Smollett.
God bless you and your family. RIP
Tragic, RIP.
