Deputy Keltner Funeral

  • Friends and colleagues of slain McHenry County Deputy Jacob Keltner remembered him at his funeral Wednesday as a brave and tenacious fugitive hunter who, when the workday ended, transformed into a lighthearted husband and tender father.

Officials said about 3,500 people, including hundreds of uniformed police officers from around the country, attended the service, filling two gymnasiums at Woodstock North High School. Keltner’s flag-draped casket rested in front of a stage decked with photos of the deputy and his family as other law enforcement officers shared their memories.
RIP Sir.

Very sad to see. Godspeed, Officer.

It was nice to hear the comments of people who lined the funeral route, saying very pro police things. Not everyone hates us.

RIP, Brother.

Any idea why there was no organized CPD presence at the funeral?

Deputy Jacob Keltner and family...
Know that the ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten by your law enforcement family.
May God now welcome you into His open and loving arms.
Rest in Peace our brother.

"Not everyone hates us." A better way to put this is not everyone loves us. When you retire and move from the Chicago and you'll find that with each mile from cities controlled by democrats the more the average citizen it not loves, at least likes and respects LEOs.

Actually, once you get away from the inner city, the ghettos & the liberal rats, the police are highly respected.
Don’t let the media get you down.
We have a LOT more backers than you think... the silent majority so to speak.

I retired to Huntley, it is a small town with a population of 25,000, of which 10,000 live in the retirement community. The Huntley PD encourages all residents to sign up for NIXEL notifications. A few hours before the procession, a NIXEL message was sent out with a map of the procession route and other details. At the bottom was one sentence that read "People wishing to pay their respects are asked to stand in a well lite area off the roadway."
People of all ages came out, many brought the flags from their front porches and they stood silent in the cold as the procession passed. LEOs are still respected in the heart of America.

I retired from CPD and now work for the MCSO. When I first got there I was shocked at how well the Police are treated out there. Sure they have their misfit Police haters as do all communities but they are far and few between. Most people are polite and respectful and appreciate the job a Police Officer does. As someone else posted, don't believe all the newsmedia hype of the haters that live in Chicago. Out here in the real world things are different. Had I known how nice the area and it's people are I would have moved out here 35 years ago and joined either the MCSO or a small town PD. Life is MUCH better once you get away from Chicago. It's especially better for Police Officers. If you have less than say ten years on the CPD, I HIGHLY encourage you to get out and find another Department to work at. McHenry County, Boone anywhere. Maybe Wisconsin. But believe me, whatever you do don't stay long at CPD. Don't get sucked in and reach the point where it's finacially too late to leave due to the pension. Leave ASAP. Your blood pressure and overall health will thank you.
