- A 2-year-old girl was killed after being ejected from a car being chased by Chicago police on the South Side Sunday night, police said.
Chicago police said they tried to stop a black Chrysler in the 10700-block of South Michigan Avenue at about 8:45 p.m. Police said the driver took off from police and collided head-on with a white Acura in the 10700-block of South Calumet Avenue
The suspect then rammed into a tree and the 2-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle, police said. She was transported to a hospital, where she later died.

They light it up, the vehicle immediately accelerates flooring the gas and in no time at all crashes with the police far behind them. Hope the cameras can show this to be the truth. Everyone knows that the driver is at fault for taking off. I don’t think anyone disputes that. What some simpletons fail to realize still now that ultimately the police will be blamed. It’s not worth jeopardizing your pension or freedom for some gang banger so you can just stop them. I can’t believe there are still people who chase or do any proactive police work. The politicians and the community has clearly stated that they don’t want to work.

Here's an idea. Your want to stop cars, follow this advice. When you see a car you want to stop in front of you, wait until a stop light or stop in traffic. Put your police vehicle in park. Light them up. If they take off, call it in and remain there until a sergeant meets you at your location. GPS and in car camera will both show there was no chase, the on board computer will show the car was never taken out of park.
Better idea, don't stop anyone, let the savages roam.
Best course of action: do not engage or terminate. Felony or just a stupid traffic violation?

Having been born and raised within the perimeters of that "chase", that's one damned short chase, if a chase at all. Somewhere in the SB 10700 block of Michigan, the lights get turned on. Offender takes off and turns EB on 108th St, drives through the intersections of Edbrooke, Indiana, Prairie, Forest, and turns N on Calumet and proceeds to crash site at 107th St. About 1/2 mile in total.
Lights go on, offender hits the gas and turns the corner. Cops follow his lead and turn also, as would be expected. That's not a chase. That's a traffic stop where the car being stopped makes a turn at that point. Does he stop at bottom of hill for police.? No. He takes off like a bat out of hell and in less than 45 seconds would be turning N on Calumet. Then in just one block at 50mph and boom at 107th st.!
That's what the offender did. What did the coppers do? The camera and radio transmissions now count on telling that story. If all that was said was, "squad, we just had a traffic offender take off on us and he's headed E/B on 108th from Michigan, that's not calling in a chase. If the camera shows them slowing down on 108th when they realize this guy is streets away from them, that's not a chase either. Even continuing to follow at reasonable speed isn't a chase either. Hopefully the radio transmission goes something like this. "Squad, he's still E/B on 108th, we have him in sight but this is not a chase, I repeat, not a chase. For units in the area, it's a [description of car] and the last we saw, he turned N around Calumet or King." Ideally, they would have been fetal in the 1st place, but 2nd best would have been to say nothing, considering the distances involved here. Radio silence is still your best friend. Even with the cameras nowadays, if a car takes off on you and you realize he's a potential hazard and you decide not to pursue, has a department rule been broken if nothing is put on the air? I've been retired too long to know the current answer to that question.
I'll give an example of why I think this way. A million years ago in a land known as the Deuce, I had a car take off on me and put it out over the air. "Squad, N/B on Vincennes from 43rd!" Sgt asks, "What's he wanted for?" "Traffic." Sgt. "Discontinue." Me, "10-4." I turn west on 41st St.and while stopped at King drive, looking N because that was the direction dude was headed, is an explosion of an accident at 39th. Our 2nd mistake was turning and going to investigate the crash, which we knew would be our guy. We should have turned south. We had discontinued but still got called in by the Sgt to write yellow paper as to why we had NOT ended the chase. We had but the fleeing offender didn't know. Similar to this story. Had we never put it out over the air, regarding us, for all practical purposes, it would have only been an accident that had occurred in our district.

I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears but on the news last night they interviewed family of the driver and the family was laying blame on the driver exactly where it truly belongs.

Traffic pursuit will be terminated once the fleeing vehicle disregards a stop sign or light, which you knew one of those intersections had.
Traffic pursuit is defined as a vehicle failing to curb or stop and increases its speed to flee from the officer I which the officer also increase their speed to pursue.

You cant chase a dam car for ANY none hazard traffic offense, which all they had at the time. Learn traffic before you try to enforce it. 4 block or 1, the order doesnt use distance to define a pursuit.

In Sacramento CA the mayor has responded after an officer was cleared in a fatal shooting of a suspect in a dark yard and body cam video provided the district attorney evidence that the involved officers feared for their lives and believed the suspect was armed and pointing a gun at them. The mayor wants charges against officers in any police involved shooting and then wants the court to decide if it was justified. Being a pro active cop is done, finished, over, a thing of the past. Be smart and be the kind of cop the liberal run states and cities want, security monitors.

For the NYPD, our corporation council actively looks for ways to NOT indemnify officers. Let the people kill each other. I have never seen a cop get jammed out for just filling out reports. Just sayin'.
