Truly sad that nothing can be done about assholes like this - he's dead after all. But that he took a State Trooper with him is truly horrible:
- Dan Davies, the driver who police say rammed an Illinois State trooper’s squad car while driving the wrong way on the Tri-State tollway early Saturday morning, should not have been driving a car anywhere.
After all, officials of the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office say they cannot find any evidence Davies ever got a driver’s license.
Despite that fact, Davies was stopped by police dozens of times - receiving over 70 tickets - including repeated citations for driving without a license. Each time he was cited for having no license, a “suspension” was added to his record at the secretary of state’s office, which would make it more difficult for him to get a license, if he ever applied for one.
He also was arrested twice for drunk driving.
Preliminary reports also indicate he was ::suprise:: drunk again and tested positive for THC in his system. And guess who released him on an I-Bond just a few months ago?
- After his November drunk driving arrest, Davies’ case was eventually transferred to Cook County Criminal Court, where he faced multiple charges of aggravated DUI. But in that case, he was granted a $3000 I-bond, meaning he had to post no cash, and he was never jailed - despite what authorities say was one of the worst driving records in the state of Illinois. And remember – he had no license in the first place.
Crimesha, Dart and Evans strike again. And along with his 70 moving violations, he had twenty-two other arrests for all sorts of violent and drug offenses for which he served a grand total of 53 days in jail.
- A spokesman for Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx did not respond to NBC5 Investigates’ repeated inquiries about what position prosecutors took to try to keep Davies in custody.
That would be "absolutely nothing."

My brother in-law had no license from 1975 to 2010. That fact probably accounted for his relatively flawless driving record, as he lived in deadly fear of getting pulled over. Should be a way for the plate readers to snap face photos and some to review them using the state drivers license database of photos.

States Attorneys Office won't prosecute traffic cases, minor offenses and low level felony. Didn't NYC learn that if you don't enforce the low level crimes the bigger crimes will follow. This must be some new shit, I did 6.5 months in County, paid a 3,000 fine, two years probation and had no bond during the entire time for credit card bullshit. The kids today are violent offenders walking the streets. WTF

One of the things that need to be done when a person is caught driving without a car or insurance is to impound the vehicle until they can provide proof of both. Unfortunately wherever this has been tried certain demographics claim there is racial bias which leads to these programs being curtailed. Once again we have a officer dead because of the stupidity and political correctness of our so called leaders.

It's been like that for a long time. Maybe 10-12 years ago I fought a BS ticket* and the judge upped the fine to the legal maximum and court costs just for daring to fight it.
*(poorly designed intersection with bad sight lines, traffic lights for two directions visible on the approach, short yellow time, and a stop line set too far back to where crossing the stop line on the last moment of green at the speed limit means crossing the plane of the intersection on red. Violates the MUTCD and following the MUTCD is required by the vehicle code.)
I agree with your statement that must WOLs, and DSS won't long form on a Susp. D/L. I can guarantee that in my District on my Watch, we long form them and impound, and GVRS is followed No I-Bond for you. We will go to the hospital and play their game, but your going to court one way or another.
It's a true story like this that I so often feel....
If I could only put this on a well made flyer and circulate it to every single sane, healthy, law abiding person in our city, suburbs and other states, it would change the course of history and everything would change for the better. This would all stop, but it doesn't.
