Targeting Females
- Chicago police believe two young women fatally shot Monday night while sitting in a parked car in the Winneconna Parkway neighborhood on the South Side were targeted, but why remains a mystery.
Speaking to reporters near the shooting scene just north of the Auburn Park Lagoon, Chicago police [...] said the shooting was puzzling because police know of no gang conflict in the area.
“Was it a domestic incident? Was it something with work? We don’t know at this point,”....
Police found about 30 shell casings at the scene.
The guy they were with was winged in the shoulder, so either there are two really bad shooters out there or the girls were the targets.

Winneconna? Boy, realtors will push any cutesy sounding name on an area to try to sell houses. Is it an amusement park? A campground? It sounds like a whimsical happy place to be shot!
WOW ! Winneconna Parkway . . . A blast from the past. When I came on the job back in 1964 and went to the old 5th district it was a jem of a little lagoon that was located west of Vincennes around 78th Street and ran west in the Normal / Parnell area. It was located along the front of the old St. George Hospital which moved in later years and now called Palos Community Hospital in the S/W burbs. Had some great little stone bridges that went across it. Thanks for the memories.

Winneconda Parkway is a off-main street section of nice homes and duplexes. At least they were nice when built and for the first twenty or so years afterwards. Guess what happened then?

So true because no money no media in it! Jackson shakes everyone down like faker and the rest for cash if you payoff his lying ass he will show up with his band of "uh hum," followers who are also paid antagonists same as flaky! The catholic church sinks ever further into the abyss and personally I ahve not given them anything for a few years they are using all the money to pay for school for illegals (Yes you pay high tuition as they go to school for free), and for the sexual assault claims millions and millions wiped out sickening and they are closing more and churches and schools rapidly but cannot see why they are failing!

– hearing a street named Cottage Grove had its niceties, visioning a pleasant, picket fenced, apple tree lined, a background for Norman Rockwell ....then again I was 8 years old and living on the north side in the 60’s.
I always thought that area was Auburn Park. Musta come up with a fancy same for that area. Kind of like Roseland is divided up into areas with their own names....

Winneconna Parkway WAYYY before anyone on this thread was born.
When Auburn-Gresham was a really nice place to be in Chicago.
Winneconna Parkway and lagoon were laid out when
that area was annexed to Chicago and built up in 1887...
If you squint, it's not hard to see how
beautiful that area was ca. 1890 to 1960
They started calling Uptown Sheridan Park.
