Crime is Down - We Swear
Like clockwork, Special Ed holds his press conference on the first of the month to plead the case the crime is down:
- Murders, shootings and other violent crimes during the first four months of 2019 have decreased compared to the same period in 2018, according to data released by Chicago police.
The 136 murders reported between Jan. 1 and April 30 marked a 10 percent decline from the same period last year, while the 541 shootings marked an 8 percent drop from last year and a 41 percent drop from 2016, police said.
The totals don't match the Slum Times counting though:
- The Sun-Times has counted 148 homicides this year within city limits, 62 of which occurred in April.
So Special Ed is hiding a dozen homicides? HeyJackass.com has the homicide count at 145, which doesn't agree with Special Ed or the Times. Amazing how difficult it is to actually count dead bodies.

Why no update for these statistics since Sunday, April 21st? Aside from the fact that 011 has over twice as many murders than any other district, got something to hide, Eddie Johnson?
An insane amount of crime is getting unreported or under reported. It is over!
This past weekend had more murders (6) than any of the previous five years, including 2016. And the weather was crap last weekend! It's going to be tough summer for the citizens of Chicago.

Maybe I just don’t get it, but it seems like every other year they are making a huge deal about a strike, and the news carries this countdown until strike day. And then the city wanted to close public schools and open charter schools, and now the charter schools want to strike.
I’m sure it’s a shitty job, without the necessary resources, and it’s a lot of headaches. I certainly wouldn’t want to be a teacher in Chicago.
BUT, I say fuck it. Let them strike.

The answer to all this from the greatest think tank ever assembled is to increase police visibility and give the youth something constructive to do. The S-T likely got to 62 after one was declared dead but then had risen to rejoin the land of the living (for now). As for Special Ed's 136, we're only able to back out 6 (3 self defense + 1 CPD + 2 ISP jurisdiction). Not sure about the others, nor going to spend much time trying to track them down.

Missing:
1. Public schools, aka education, are exactly as all other government enterprises. Graft is the purpose. Plus, they are proving to be excellent at indoctrination.
2. The shitty aspects are the direct result of the above, being as an actual teacher, inspired to actually teach students about actual life, finds that this is not allowed. It impedes the graft and the indoctrination. Cannot have that.
3. Thus, the only "teachers" who stay employed by the CPS are the ones who are there for the dollars. Few truly give a fuck about the indoctrination, other than to go along to get paid.
4. The ones who stay and try to put a bit of reality, of knowledge of actual life, as it is, do so because they, also, know that the pay is too ample to disregard. Yep. It's the age old compromise.
5. The CPS permitted "charter" schools are not all that different. Still, a bit more determined to help students learn about the actual world, but, also, still participating in the required indoctrinations. Charter schools are merely the method of impeding truly honest education from developing. Which is why tax funded vouchers are so vigorously opposed.
6. Eliminate the entire CPS + the half assed charters and replace with vouchers for ALL, accepted at ANY school enterprise which meets honest standards and the American spirit of MAGA will solve most of these problems which have been created, implimented, maintained and expanded well into the college level of education.
7. The resulting cacaphony of the phony posers claiming their contribution to society is essential will duly follow. Disregard them. They are merely hogs bemoaning the removal of their overflowing graft slop troughs.

Here's a few tips:
1. If you hear the shots, as they are sounding, pay attention and count them. This is easily done by using the rhythm of 4. As in, count in groups of 4, then do the math.
2. If the shots are regularly spaced, from first to last, a steady sequence, quite mechanical in spacing between each shot, then it is likely that the weapon is a semi-auto which has been half converted to fire with one trigger pull, held back until supply magazine is empty. No, not quite full auto, as the ammo is still semi loads and slide return spring still semi as manufactured. The fact that you can hear the space between shots and count each one indicates this.
3. If the above is not quite steady, mechanically evenly spaced, then homie is doing the fancy handling of his pistol tha requires two hands to achieve.
4. If the shots are not mechanically spaced, homie is doing the one hand point and jerk.
5. Any series of sounded shots that overlap means more than one weapon being fired. A difference in tone of shots indcates this also.
6. If there are the sounds of human(s) screaming, well, that is also not uncommon.
7. Know the difference between Cover and Concealment. And act when action is needed, not think about it for a bit.

Great documentary. Its frightening because its happening here. Seattle’s downfall starts with crime going unpunished and handcuffing and demoralizing the police. Politicians kill their own cities.
Why would CPD be proud of this miniscule drop, even if it was true ?
The unending need to regularly hold press conferences to highlight statistically meaningless improvements in crime is juvenile and misguided. In any event, the reader or viewer would not feel safer having read the report or seen the press confernece. There are too many uncontrolled variables for any comparison to be sound over a short time frame, with the impact of weather being the most obvious. Any comparison, while attempting to show progress, will only put a spot light on the negative long term trend. The Superintendant is getting very poor strategic and public relations advice. Common sense seems to be ignored. The new Mayor is smart. She should get off this public relations strategy of continuously touting meaningless if not dishonest crime statistics. Greater success would be achieved through more effective allocation of resources and management of the the budget. Finding ways to increase the number of police on the street, improving the quality of the education and supervision, and instilling more integrity in the promotional process would go a long way toward rebuilding the world class police force that once existed in Chicago. Those that work for the CPD and the citizens deserve better. The new Mayor is capable and has a mandate. Giver her a chance.
