- A man died after falling on a knife during an argument Thursday in Englewood on the South Side, police said.
The 36-year-old was involved in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend in the 1900 block of West Marquette Road when she grabbed a knife, Chicago police said.
Harold W. Smith and the 30-year-old woman struggled over the knife at 1 a.m., when Smith fell on top of it and was punctured in the chest, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
Smith was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead within the hour, authorities said.

I was surprised to see it characterized like that by the CPD spokesman. Those weren't the facts presented to Felony Review by the Detectives when I rejected it. Here's what really happened: Male 'Victim' was 6'2" and 220 lbs. Female 'Defendant' was 5'7" and 150 lbs. Victim was recently paroled on a gun charge six days earlier, and had a prior Agg. Vehicular Highjacking as well. He needed a place to stay so the Defendant, who had a romantic relationship with hm, let him stay with her and her mother. They got into an argument when the Defendant caught the Victim asking another woman for her phone number earlier in the evening. During the argument, Defendant started chest shoving the guy and wouldn't stop, so the Victim started throwing haymakers to her face and uppercuts to her head, knocking her off her feet and stunning her. He punched her in the face and head between 5-10 times, breaking her nose and bloodying her her up pretty good. Defendant grabbed a nearby knife as the Victim started heading for the door. Defendant stabbed Victim one (1) time in the chest. Although this would prove to be a mortal wound, Victim sustained no other injuries. Defendant's statement was corroborated by two witnesses, one of whom also saw the Victim choking Defendant at one point. It was corroborated further by the autopsy, photos of the Defendant's bloody face and her medical records. Detectives concurred with the rejection.

Though, on point (har), this seems like one of those "if a tree falls in the ghetto and nobody ever saw anything when them racist poleesus are around, is there a reason to care?" situations. Eschewing rule of law in favor of rule of the angry mob has consequences, yeah?
Now if it had been the woman that fell on the knife and the man was telling the story.
Thank goodness he only fell once. Remember the guy who fell onto a knife 31 times in a row? Some folks are just bad at gravity.

– Presentation is everything. Then there’s the witnesses for ol’ gurl who seems to have been quite a handful.
Autopsy? Not likely for a few more days or weeks, Friday the very soonest. Preliminary exam maybe, but better evidence might develop.
So far a death investigation pending. Not the crime of the century and just one less seasoned repeat violent offender to feed through the system and another to be dismissed.
