- The ARDC lists her name as Cara Lefevour Smith. Could she be any relation?
July, 14th, 1985 Chicago Tribune article: Circuit Judge Richard F. LeFevour was convicted Saturday of all 59 counts of an Operation Greylord indictment that accused him of taking thousands of dollars in bribes over 14 years to fix drunken driving cases and parking tickets.
LeFevour isn't exactly a common name, and especially connected to anything Cook County. LeFevour was so crooked that a jury found him guilty in just about four hours, an unheard of turnaround in a trial that took months. Smith doesn't appear to be a daughter from the limited records available - a niece or cousin perhaps?
We remember these trials vividly and it contributed directly to our never ever voting to retain a Cook County judge.

I knew that the Lefevours were thieves when I saw the Judge and his cousin at the old Counselors Row eating soup with a corkscrew.

Her father was President of Wright college and while wheeling and dealing with Madigan gave his daughter lisa a big position at the college when she was 23. What I think his hillarous that Dart gave all his top girls a bs 2 week FBI course and they are all using the "FBI Training certificate" to find other jobs. While every one of them is bad mouthing Dart to anyone who will listen walking out the door. The goofy Sheriff will finally have his mental breakdown without Cara. She ran the department and served Tommy his meds for the last decade.

Cara was such a great lawyer that she missed the sentence in the Constitution that Merit Board members have to finish a serve a full six year term before replacement. Just a minor blunder that cost the tax payers about 60 million. At least if she botches a traffic case it will only be a few hundred bucks.
Remember Smith is only appointed for a year before she needs to get elected by actual voters. Can see her future opponent running ads showing her being appointed by the wife of the most corrupt politician in Chicago. Not to mention her less than stellar record running the jail and her unqualified record for judicial appointment.

There is no question that Cara is one of the LeFevour Family. Before she was Tom Dart’s lick spittle assistant and jack of all trades, she worked for many years for Lisa Madigan, including as her chief of staff. She has never handled a case through trial in her entire career and now she will be presiding over the trials of unsuspecting citizens. With her clout she will likely land a spot in one of the more prestigious divisions of the court before long such as the Law Division or Chancery Division. Anyone who has dealt with Ms. Smith will tell you she is full of herself and revels in crushing anyone who might disagree with her. She will be a triple threat as a judge. Completely Ignorant of the law, completely lacking in demeanor and totally arrogant. It is time for both Ed Burke and Justice Burke to resign.

The Lefevours had clout. Big time clout.
In addition to the kinky judge, there was his brother who was a careerist at the Shitty Colleges of Shitago. The brother was made a college president and was even able to get his paramour a similar gig at another campus.
You can blame Ald Burke and Madigan for many of these lousy judges. Nothing will be turned around until these two are gone from the political scene ( probably to be replaced by others of the same ilk). Then, I think Justice Burke should also resign if her husband is convicted or pleads guilty. What we really need in this state is an independent Illinois Attorney General, which we do not have at present and have not had for a decade.
It's infuriating that the Burke's still have political powers. And they appoint a Madigan lackey to the bench with zero qualifications. Nothing will ever change in this corrupt city.

Not sure its totally fair to bring up something that happened 35+ years ago and didn't involve her in the slightest. In any event, she is a terrific person and will be a good judge.

I can’t see anyone running against her police aren’t the only ones who voteshe will be endorsed by the Democratic Party, Burke,Madigan, Dart and who knows how many more. In fact if they rally behind her she may run unopposed , although for the life of me I have no idea how they pull that off.

Lack of qualifications has never been an issue for Lisa Murray Madigan.
Madigan was hired as a college dean by Raymond LeFevour with only a baccalaureate degree in hand! In effect, this was Lisa's unique law school scholarship since she was enrolled full-time at Loyola Law while supposedly working at Wright simultaneously. Her Republican challenger in the AG race, Joe Birkett, tried to raise the issue, but Madigan never responded to it directly and the media largely ignored it.
As soon as she graduated law school, Lisa left the City Colleges. When campaigning for AG, Madigan was "interviewed" by Randy Barnette for a glowing profile in a City Colleges employee magazine (which totally omitted the fact that Barnette was also the 39th Ward Democratic Committeeman and husband of 39th Ward Alderman Margaret Laurino). Totally unethical. City resources were used to promote Lisa Madigan's candidacy (again).
Raymond LeFevour and the crooked judge were brothers. So the judge would be Cara's uncle.

Jim Lefebvre was the National League Rookie of the Year for the 1965 Los Angeles Dodgers (a team that went on to win the World Series). He later managed the Seattle Mariners, the Chicago Cubs, and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Lefebvre was a California native, so I doubt he is connected to these West Side grifters (who migrated to Oak Park once the city got too hot).
@Paddyrollingstone - did you miss the part where her daddy used city funds to pay for Lisa's law school and then Madigans, in return, helped her on every step of here "career"?

Unrelated, but maybe interesting to someone. Years ago the famous Marlboro Diamond was stolen. It was never recovered but a couple of Chicago guys, one named Scalise, were convicted and served time in Britain. Scalise returned to Chicago and messed up again. His attorney? Anne Burke. Scalise went back to the slammer.

The most amazing thing was Dart and his sidekick Cara managed to turn the jail into a mess with less than half the inmates from the past. That took skill!
There was also a LeFevour in charge of Stadium Management Group, which runs Soldier Field.

Despite what Michael Sneed writes, Justice Anne Burke was clouted almost every inch of the way through her judicial career. She was appointed to the Illinois Court of Claims, the Illinois Appellate Court (without having served a day as a trial court judge) and, finally, to the Supreme Court of the State of Illinois. Former Justice Mary Ann McMorrow (a cousin to Rostenkowski) tipped the Burkes as to her retirement and the vacancy was filled instantly. It was done in the middle of the night and was a fait accompli before anyone knew what had happened. Every time Anne Burke has run for election as a judge she was already an incumbent.
