- Cara Smith, a veteran policy adviser to Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart and a registered attorney, has been named to serve as a county judge.
The Illinois Supreme Court appointed Smith to fill a vacant judgeship in the county’s seventh subcircuit, according to an order filed this week.
Sure. What "policy advisor" doesn't dream of becoming a judge? Guess who nominated her?

She has never tried a single case but engineered the Judge Evan’s “Get out of Jail Free “program that has emptied the jail! For that she is awarded a judgeship from the Burke crime family.

Sadly, the politicos often make the worst judges. They never spent time in the trenches, paid their dues, or gained the necessary experience to learn how a good judge operates. They leave the crash course judicial orientation class and think that they're qualified. Many of the better judges leave the bench and return to private practice after awhile, but the hacks consider it a lifetime appointment. They will stay in the job until the Machine moves them into a higher position, or until they retire or get indicted.
