Interesting Defense
- Arguing that prison sentences historically have “not done anything to curb Chicago’s tidal wave of aldermanic corruption cases,” Willie Cochran’s lawyer asked a judge Thursday not to put the latest convicted ex-City Council member behind bars.
Attorney Christopher T. Grohman instead asked for probation with six months of home confinement for the 67-year-old former 20th Ward alderman, insisting that Cochran’s crime does not count as a typical public corruption case.
To make his argument, Grohman pointed to a list published by the Chicago Sun-Times of 35 aldermen convicted since the early 1970s. He also made reference to last week’s indictment of 14th Ward Ald. Edward M. Burke on racketeering and bribery charges — a case former 25th Ward Ald. Danny Solis helped build by wearing a wire for the feds.
We'd make the opposite argument - that aldercreatures aren't sentenced to nearly enough prison time.
Look at Blago - 14 years for attempting to solicit a bribe that never left the ground - and not a single Illinois governor has been to prison since.
Imagine if we added public flogging to the sentences.

Are you kidding me? Why didn’t he ask for a vacation to the Caribbean too? That’ll teach him!
I agree, Prison hasn't done enough to discourage crooked and corrupt officials.
WE SHOULD EXECUTE THEM!!!
Lock him up and throw away the key!
Public hangings in the Council Room.
The body(s) must remain hanging until the next council oaths are completed and the meeting is adjourned.
The last line, " Not a single governor has been to jail since" does not say anything about corruption in illannoy! What it does say is that there is no justice in the city, county or state when it comes to malfeasance of any politician, let alone the governor! The crew in Springfield would be the textbook rico case with the rubber stamp approval of, does anybody know projected income, of the multitude of taxes and revenue streams they approved! And yet not one (1) single word about deficits, pension payments or reduction of spending! BTW just who are the latest group of connected individuals to win the contracts granting them untold riches at the cost of all these taxes for, just what are all these taxes for? Oh yeah, I forgot, democRAT business as usual, at the highest "TAX" level!!! If the choice is between the devil and the democRATS, I choose the devil, he is not anywhere near as "GREEDY"!!!
The judge should say "you are absolutely right Counselor, which is why I am sentencing your client to 10 years in prison so future aldermen will know that if they commit a crime they will do long time."
I'll make a counter offer: no jail, if every Chicagoan gets to kick you in the nuts. Wadu u say?
that Judge is gonna slam! this elected official who took an OATH to uphold the US Constitution equal protection under the law and no cruel and no unusual punishment!
Let the sentencing hearings begin!
Can an elected mayor wear a wire and conduct sting operations against sitting aldermen?
Lawyers are such inventive creatures.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
This shows how far our political leaders have fallen and the mindset they have, if any. Judge should triple his time to send a message to the rest The nerve! Number of aldermen need to be cut way back and monitored very closely.
That’s it.
Restorative justice for dirty politicians.
Let’s begin with 30 years, no parole, and go from there.
We’ve got it ass backwards, as politicians pose a greater threat than any rogue policeman... we need to have politicians go through a vetting process before being sworn in which would include a background and polygraph, attend a course of training within a year of being elected that would include constitutional law, ethics and democratic principles, and in addition to a daily activity log, required to wear a body camera while conducting the public’s business
If all else fails, highlight the massive and ongoing corruption to get a lighter sentence.
Wait....what??! He'll probably appeal his conviction on grounds of incompetent legal counsel too.
Blago was made an example of for having a conversation with his brother, and do you want to know what, it was f$&king golden, it was an incredible opportunity for a governor scumbag or not.
They need to create a chain gang for all these corrupt convicted politicians that have never worked a honest day in there entire fucking life's. The hell with sending them to club Fed make these motherfuckers work for there daily bread !
Look at the bright side, he hasn’t murdered anybody yet. Murders bad.
I was never a fan of Blago but that sentence was so far over the top, it was clearly payback. I actually have hoped Trump would release him.
Double the sentence, and put the stupid ass lawyer in for a year for asking the stupid question.
Prison works just fine for the 50 Alder Thieves. The problem is when feds build a case it takes enormous amounts of time and resources to make the arrest and successfully prosecute the case. Burke, Solis and others are healthy reminders of what can be done.
The Democratic Socialist Machine designed the system to ensure their is no local enforcement to work on multiple corruption cases. The IG is useless and powerless, state, county, and local enforcement are not empowered or allowed to work public corruption cases.
Bottom line: The feds are the best thing going. Prosecute these corrupt, vile and disgusting politicians who engage in selling the public trust. Chicago's FBI Public Corruption Squad is our best hope to keep hammering away at the thieves residing in City Hall.
We all know Blago was singled out for something we know they all do if they get the chance. That's the only reason he was punished and punished so severely. We are left guessing at why.
As to discouraging the corruption when they are caught make them pay back 10X (or 100X) more than the total that they cost the taxpayers. I don't care about the prison, I care about the money and so do they. The big finance and political crime really does pay.
Even went caught they typically do a couple years in minimum security and keep most of the spoils. Think of their stay in the pen as a job and it's more than just about everyone makes in productive employment.
So I say spare them prison if they can pay at least 10X the total cost back. Then they can be homeless or whatever.
For What It's Worth (1966)
There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
*********
In a spin on a phrase: "Find a good horse and ride it,"
Blago paid for the sins of those before him, after him,
and we'll into the future. When I think of all the bribes,
backroom deals, "look the other way" agreements,
former mayor Daley safely ensconced on LSD with 24-hr
security, and Rahm Emanuel joining a mergers & acquisition
firm (even though he had past financial experience) in July,
it makes me want to puke. The Wall Street Journal
yesterday published an article that stated Rahm would
essentially cash in on a Rolodex of contacts developed over
30 years. No big deal; everybody does it. But where else
do you even hear the name Blago but in the SCC blog?
Blago = gone and forgotten.
Give him the maximum and then 6 months cleaning bathrooms at city hall , police , fire stations.
Restorative JustUs.
Prison causes violent criminal acts upon release.
Blago may have been the last Gov to be put away, but I predict high roller, share your wealth-not mine JB TaxCheat (under Fed investigation but the FakeNews doesn’t like to mention it) will be next.
The defense had nothing so it had to abandon reason and throw out a facetious argument bordering on the absurd.
I would think the judge would see if for what it is--bullspit.
However, I wouldn't be willing to bet on it seeing this is Crook County.
How about a permanent pillory in Daley Plaza in lieu of prison terms for convicted public officials?
Makes sense to me. Hell, prison hasn’t stopped murders, rapes and robberies. Maybe nobody should go to prison
Government should purchase a set of wooden stocks, which would be installed in Daley plaza, and whenever a politician is convicted he should be required to sit in same for a month. Citizens would be allowed to purchase garbage, animal waste and other greasy, disgusting items and launch them at the disgraced individual. Each night prior to being transferred to a cage to await his next day's appearance he/she would be required to clean up what was thrown at him.
To quote the late Harold Washington this is “hubris gone wild”.
Public flogging sounds good. I'd pay real folding money to get some licks in.
Right up there with the Twinkie defense
Lock his ass up & throw away the key !!!
How about forfeiture of all assets? House, cars, bank accounts, lawn mower, clothes, all of it. Move to Lower Wacker and start over.

Bangladeshi ISIS living in Queens tries to buy

undercover officer. Been watching dude for months.
Folks, like him or not, I think Mr. Trump is right.
We don't need these fools with bad intentions
inside our country. ISIS-Man planned to hit
financial district in NYC (just when things are
looking up for the market).
Your current Governor will be indicted soon

Curb your corruption!
Will a community-artist type dude please paint
a farewell portrait of our dear leader Rahm
utilizing chiaroscuro techniques (balance of light
and shade). I could picture dear leader as Tony
'Say hello to my little friend' Montana or maybe
Vito 'Offer' C.
So step it up and let's see some art, let's say
along the Red Line. Please!
Chicago needs a public ass-whipping chair at Daley Plaza...
A stout oak chair with chains and straps but with no seat
and it can pivot into the upside down position and lock...
Import some public ass-whipping experts from Singapore,
India, Thailand and the Middle East...
"HAI-YAAAAAHH!"
>Swish! WHAPPP!<
"ee-EEEEEEK!"
>A loud fart and a little piss<
Until ass-meat falls from the bone.
The exclusive punishment for elected Chicago lick-hitters
and those who sully their office and those who pay no heed
to their contract with society.
Forget prison. Import a couple of Malaysian prison guards to Cain his bare butt under the bean!
Let the peoples razor speak.
Is it just me or did we all just erase the horrific memory or Rahm? Lori please, please don’t fall into the Dems typical race based template and help us on the South and Westside. I just want to send my children out to play without gun battles. I hurt as do my neighbors of age, we are overrun by warlords. Please it’s awful and getting worse.
Ten years minimum, crook making over $100K a year
That argument is clearly nonsense.
Prisons are full of people who thought they were smarter than the guy in the next cell, but who were clearly wrong, and went ahead & committed the crime anyway.
None of these geniuses said to himself, "I'm gonna get caught" before they let their criminal freak flag fly.

That's what living in Cook county does to people. It makes them BELIEVE that sentences like Blow-go's are too strict, when they should in fact, be the norm, particularly for elected officials.
Some argue that prison sentences aren't a deterrent at all-that argument is also faulty. If nothing else, they're a specific deterrent; that particular offender won't be committing those crimes again anytime soon.

Caning bare butts under the bean?
I like the concept.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Why all this complicated mumbo-jumbo alleged defense?
Why not just repeat the mantra... "Chicago ain't ready for reform?"
Do not be surprised as these lawyers are members of the National Lawyers Guild a subversive communists organization.
Fact: Congressional Report.

However you feel about Blago, he did get an unusually harsh sentence. He also did a lot of good for people in Illinois. But, he crossed the wrong people. Others who do wrong, are more careful not to cross the wrong people. It should not matter, but in reality itakes a difference who you cross.
