- Here we go again, an official memo just came out from Deputy Devereux to the 1st, 2nd 3rd, 18, 19, 20 and 24th districts that they MUST have at least 1 marked squad with its emergency lights activated pro-actively going up and down lake shore dr./lakefront every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday Nights until further notice.
So Again, the fucked up brass bosses we have (that have NO fucking clue whats to do) do the same bullshit we did in the past and proved not to be effective in cutting crime...all its doing is taking a beat car or 2 (with midnites being short manpower anyway) and doing absolutely nothing while other cars are answering service calls and going into backlogs...just more brainy ideas that WILL NOT work. Nothing will ever change until we get competent bosses and a mayor in this city.
Taking a car out of service and having them activate their emergency equipment - when no actual emergency exists - seems to be (A) counter productive, (B) unnecessarily dangerous and (C) exposing the City to liability. Drivers pulling to the right suddenly to yield could have accidents or hop curbs or drive into the lake - any lawyer could get creative in a pinch. And shorting already short districts a car or cars during the summer is BS.
Besides, do you think we would be allowed to chase cars on Lake Shore Drive?

I know they didnt do this silly stuff when I worked at the cook county department of corrections. Once in a while the only lights you would see is from an AmBo.
The car is most likely going to cause accidents. With cars trying to move out of the way.
Is this the Deveruex who was in 025 in the early 90’s. If so, he was never a street cop, but in Chicago it seems it is not uncommon for someone with no street experience to get promoted way above his/her abilities. And when that happens, the rank and file do not respect them, and morale goes down the toilet. But this is an oft told tale, so never mind.
Why not just have every car drive around with all their lights on. If one is good, more should be better.

Easy fix, allow Illinois concealed carry holders to carry on the Lakefront and make sure this update is all over the news for at least a week.
Once the mutts realize its ok for lawful Illinois concealed carry holders to carry anywhere on the Lakefront, and maybe one or two have some extra holes in them that weren't original equipment manufacturer, maybe the crime rates will slide in line with the crime rates on the North Shore. Perpetrators hate it when they're outgunned by their potential victims, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
The 003 district will have chumps lining up to do this silly shit. The 3 year wonders, with their ppo partners are just chomping at the bit to impress bojangles and get a spot on one of the rule 14 violation teams...aka tac. KM and the 06 crew will be busy holding the testicles of 368 and Sgt RJ, or telling the ppos war stories about all the wrong doors they’ve hit (will be another news story shortly). Actually, as stated earlier, it is a direct violation of the IVC, officers are being instructed to violate the law. I worked with George in 025 and this anonymous post is ill-informed and wrong. George was absolutely a street cop and a good one at that.
Activated lights=constant recording. This ought to spell increased costs and reality steering wheel movies.

A well paid Department is a happy Department. No need to endanger regular day officers by depleting resources with these extra assignments. Also , Eddie will be followed into retirement by most of the current exempts. This Department needs a triple flush to get away from the International embarrassment status. It’s also illegal to use there lights unless responding to an emergency, which all necessary information to prove this is not an emergency are FOIAable and be discovered through subpoena. This is just another big lawsuit that will be on the news showing how CPD screwed up again. Good job bosses.

Sooner or later, some or several unfortunate victim(s) who legally carry, but obey these stupid anti carry signs, will sue the city and state because they weren't able to protect themselves. I totally avoid, when possible, establishments with these useless signs. I do not wish to be a sitting duck in an enclosed shooting pond.

Many years ago, some nitwit boss tried this. Had the Mars lights activated over a holiday weekend. City had to settle several lawsuits over accident. At that time, word came down that the lights were for emergencies only, not a light show

Would eliminate getting all the districts involved. Then the CPD could form a new unit with a chief, deputy chief, commander, captain , XO 2 secretaries and a fully staffed front office. Throw in a group of community policing officers to update the community on the program

I remember in 008 years ago kids were drag racing area of 44th street west of Pulaski, captain gave car hydrant key ordered to open hydrant, and your guessed it kid had bad accident died, boss denied ordering that and given coppers hydrant key, copper got sued,city paid but copper paid civil court damages as we are indemnify from this! Boss tells you to do something record and use phone video their asses to save yourself trouble later!

Did't Dart order this too many years ago? All it did was cause traffic accidents and law suits. When a civilian gets injured or killed because of an accident caused by vehicles pulling over due to the cpd lights and sirens, the city and officer will have to explain what emergency they were responding to. Uh, none. That is taxpayer dollars out the window yet again, and an officer who could be subjected to a civil lawsuit.
Furthermore, what about the color of law? Officers who obey an unlawful order are still legally accountable.

This is great, we now know what Monday's Accountability meeting and strategy was all about. Special Ed and his Team Of mutts came up with this Emergency lights strategy. This is a real winner. Crime is going down, I just know it. We'll scare the pants off the bangers when they see those blue lights on.
This explains why Lori is keeping Special Ed on job. With crime fighting strategies like this what could possibly go wrong. Can't wait for next Monday's Accountability meeting. Maybe we can put rainbows and unicorn decals on the side of all marked cars.
