Lori Doubles Down on "Poverty"

Rapidly losing what little support she had:
  • Mayor Lori Lightfoot decried Chicago street crime after the city’s most violent weekend of the year and promised to continue pushing police leaders to better address chronic shootings.

Lightfoot addressed the media outside her office after a weekend that saw more than 50 people shot across Chicago. She stepped outside of a meeting with police brass and city officials that she dubbed “Accountability Mondays,” a regularly planned meeting to go over the city’s policing strategies following weekends marked by violence.

“What I said to them in the opening was, if they’re not going to bed every night and waking up every morning worrying and having a sense of urgency and asking themselves what more they can personally do to fight crime and stem the violence in their city, they’re in the wrong job,” Lightfoot said.
"personally" fight crime. We can hardly wait to see the brass pulling on the spandex and wearing capes, leading by example. Anyone know how many of the current crop of exempts:
  • haven't made a felony arrest in their careers?
  • haven't been on fifty arrests reports in any capacity?
  • haven't made an arrest in at least ten years?
 It's an extensive list.

Then Lori doubles down on the stupid:
  • Still, not all of the problems can be solved by policing, Lightfoot said. Much of the violence is the result of decades’ worth of disinvestment across large swaths of Chicago, she said.

“There are areas in the city (where) there is literally nothing. Vacant lots, abandoned houses, no restaurants, no coffee shops, no grocery stores, no parks, no schools. All the things that we know are important to maintaining a good quality of life and providing residents with a sense that the city cares about them, that they have a stake in their own future, and neighborhood after neighborhood on the South and West sides in particular, those things just don’t exist,” Lightfoot said.
Oh it exists. Or maybe it existed. But it was destroyed by people....or folks.

You know who the latest to become "disinvested" are?

Police.

The lack of support and continued kow-towing to the chronic whiners and complainers is also to blame for this mess.

The Ferguson Effect is in full "on" mode, deepened by "leaders" who are more concerned with their careers than the well-being of the troops.

As Gomer Pyle used to say, "Surprise, surprise, surprise!"

Mayor Lightfoot must move with her family to a home within a half mile of Wilcox and Keeler in the 11th District. .This would have a powerful affect on lowering crime in the most violent district in the city.

011 leads with 30 murders this year, almost twice the runner-up district. It also easily leads in total violent crimes, shooting incidents and vehicle theft.

Whenever I read this kind of finger pointing about the problem being disinvestment, I have to ask: so what have you personally done, Ms. Lightfoot, to address this? As a private citizen, did you establish an after-school or job-training program on the south side? Did you open a coffee shop or little grocery on the west side? Why didn’t you get a government grant to fund programs or support business development in the “community?” Instead, you made it your life’s work to go after the police who are the only people trying to actually protect the people living in these areas.

And to be fair about those vacant areas, Lori,
what are YOU doing to remedy this. Reaching out
to corporate leaders? Trying to lure tech companies
to Chicago (in addition to the ones we already have)?
It's like when Obama said about companies leaving
the U.S. How are you going to stop them?
Well, Donald Trump picked up the phone and
persuaded them to stay here.
(But then again, Obama, you never really had any
practical business experience. Not even ringing
the cash register in the corner drugstore. It would
have served you well to learn how real people make
a living.)

Oh it exists. Or maybe it existed. But it was destroyed by people....or folks.

This is the part nobody ever talks about and if they do they are immediately tagged racist! Example, I just visited the Marquette Park area two weeks ago, specifically 72nd and Talman where I grew up in the late 70s thru early 90s. It was never the best of neighborhoods but it was safe. People took care of their property, small shops were on 71st and the park was a great place to go and play, picnic, fish or just relax.
What I saw two weeks ago was a shell of that and my guess is the new residents did that to themselves. They moved in at some point to a good established neighborhood which was safe, had decent schools and working families and turned it all to crap!

This cycle won’t end because the mayor wants to sprinkle money that Chicago doesn’t have towards resources that won’t work. The other thing is that Chicago is running out of decent neighborhoods to ruin. What the mayor needs to do is have “that talk” that Obama never had and start holding the community responsible and stop putting the blame on businesses, police and schools. Responsible parenting will be the only thing that fixed the “poverty crime rate”.

The old folks from back-in-the-day

"Educated Fool."

Madame Mayor is just a little outside
herself because her constituents keep
showing the world her ass so she feels
she has no choice but to double down on
"Poverty" as a causative for "all this
crime up in heah."

She's half right...

Spiritual Poverty.
Moral Poverty.
Ethical Poverty.
Poverty of Impulse Control.
Poverty of Initiative.
Poverty of Pride.

Remember ICE theaters? I think it stood for inner city entertainment. I know there was one west and south. Both are now closed. There was also a Starbucks by the theater in 11. That actually lasted longer than I thought but eventually closed. You know what hasn't closed? The hundreds of liquor stores throughout the impoverished parts of Chicago. Sorry but all the coffee shops in the world won't change crime. It has to start from within and the police will have about 1% influence on the outcome

Lightfoot really shows how much she doesn’t know this city. She’s falling back on the age-old bullshit excuse of neighborhoods having no investment, but as the mayor of this city, she should know that isn’t the case at all. Let’s take the shooting on the 1200 block of North Mason for example - Lightfoot says it was due to lack of schools, parks, grocery stores and coffee shops. However...within a mere two mile radius there is Hatch School, Whittier School, Flagg Elementary School, St. Angela’s Catholic School, Brunson Math & Science Specialty School, LaFollette Park, Andersen Park, Davis Park, Taylor Park, Jewel, Pete’s Market, Food 4 Less, Walmart, and a fucking Dunkin Donuts.

Now what’s your excuse, Mayor Lightfoot?

The reason there is areas with nothing is they ran the business out. I remember a store a woman had ran for over 40 years with her husband. Her husband died and she said I will run my store until I die. Six months later she got robbed at gun point in her store and said I’m to fear full to go on. She closed, lived 15 more years, lived above store but never opened it back up. How could you not feel sorry for the woman.

Refusing to approve felony charges, refusing to prosecute, ankle bracelets and early release (from county AND IDOC are the ingredients for the shit soup currently being served. Years ago a Junior Achievement teacher created a lesson for his third graders. After they learned about “urban poverty” they were eager to invest in one of those neighborhoods to improve the lives of the people who lived there. So they pooled their play money and bought an apartment building. They had to visit their property every week. The first week they find all the windows broken, so they called a service to come out and board up the windows while they shopped around for new windows. And so it went, every week it was something. All the “urban” problems. Graffiti, squatters, empty promises of paying the rent, etc. until they decided to sell the building. When the teacher asked why they wanted to sell the building, a little girl stepped up and said that they were wasting their investment money.

It’s a simple problem. The problems are caused by people who don’t give a shit about themselves or anything else. They have no moral compass. Until policy makers have the courage to make people accountable for their own actions, nothing is going to improve. No amount of funding, grants, tax revenue or welfare is going to fix what’s wrong. This “helping the poor” bullshit started in the sixties and hasn’t worked or helped anybody yet. So for God’s sake, stopping saying it has or it will.

These people are out of their fricken minds. We’re the police. We enforce laws. We arrest people who break the laws the politicians put on the books. Those broken laws result in consequences ie jail time and fines. However when people are arrested and allowed free on little or no bond at all and eventually given a pass and no jail time or fines there is no reason to not commit more crime. Stop blaming the police!!! These gang bangers who are doing the shootings and committing the murders for the most part have been arrested several times and usually for violent offenses such as weapons charges yet they suffer no consequences for these offenses.

LL wants to hold the police “accountable” great start bring her the numbers every Monday of how many people are arrested for weapons charges and aggravated batteries. And then follow up on just exactly how many of these people are kept off the street. Then maybe we will see just who should be held accountable.

I’ll give you a hint 99% of the problem is all within one area on the corner of 26th and California. From Foxx to Dart and everyone in between.

Definitely agree, and look for instance Target closed, they tried to open a "big beautiful store," over east to help the "black folks," in the "food deserts," but the theft was so high even this huge chain could not cover the massive theft and bullshit. The only reason whole foods is still alive at 53 and halsted (btw the prices here are the lowest compared to any other whole foods stores), they have 24/7 CPD marked squads assigned and yes they are free to the store, along with extra plain clothes officers assigned to watch the parking lots what other stores are allowed this?

Go into many stores over their Lori, look around and notice the bullet proof glass, the overpriced items, the "gimme your money fool," as your food be put in that glass bullet proof turnstile and your food is spun around to you after the cash is paid never before gee Lori why is that? Have a fearful and meaningful criminal justice system in Cook County and it will have a direct impact on the repeat offenders that place the working police in an impossible position of an uphill battle, not to mention the lefties position that the 'Police' are the problem.

The south and west sides have nothing but beautiful parks, new libraries, new sewers, beautiful field houses, a lot of newer street, etc...

It’s all a joke. And the joke is on the working class.

6/04/2019 02:20:00 AM

Ahh hope and change: changing to new in the hopes decent people will move in. Lol we all remember when the projects were new. If you don't, simply think if any new building. Look what happened in the highest taxed section of the city: never snow plowed, pot holes in the streets, run down public school, rat infested parks, and crumbling sidewalks. That is, until the already pocket picked taxpayers rebuilt much themselves and shortshanks friends showed him the roads and sidewalks when he visited.

Visit any ghetto school yard: it's strewn with broken glass and debris. Anything goes and it usually does.

Oh and all those vacant lots in the city: owners grew tired of paying taxes and fines for the ghetto behaviors against tgeir property. It's simply cheaper to bulldoze the house, creating vacant land, and wait until the ghetto minds stop funnin, and learn how to behave. Axe any vacant land owner why the formerly decent house was torn down. Of course, it's always the white man's or the police's fault anyway.

I can only hope that she doesn't actually believe this fairytale bullshit that she is spewing. She has to ask herself why private business doesn't invest in the shit part of the city. Perhaps because they actually want to make money instead of doing monthly reports to corporate about inventory lost to theft. Perhaps they can't find employees to show up on time or with any idea what work and customer service is. Perhaps they don't want to pay for the extra security needed to dissuade mobs of teens from bum rushing the store.

Look corporations don't give a shit what color your skin is...they respect one color..GREEN. If they can make money in your area they will set up shop. If they are loosing money...see ya.

As for a tech company setting up shop in one of these hoods...good luck. They are all phony as fuck "liberals" who preach it as long as it isn't in their neighborhood.

6/04/2019 01:36:00 AM

Sadly an all too true and frequent story.

Anyone seen the new store in olgilvy train station? You can't gain entry unless you have the amazon app on your phone. Everything is computerized. While the mini tollgates work in civilized society, bet they'll need full bullet proof glass doors in the ghetto. Maybe thats the only way stores csn survive in their hoods. Use link cards for access and prohibit exit. Though they'd only start a fire to escape with the whole store contents.

Maybe annex them to an island to fend for themselves, vuild their own shelters and grow their own food to teach responsibility or perish?

Every do gooder should stop enabling them. Youre wasting your time and money as well as your brain space over useless guilt. Help only those who will work along with you. No pearls after swine anymore.

Madam Queen Mayor, you do realize that many of these shootings are occurring outside of these so called "decades’ worth of disinvestment across large swaths of Chicago". Shootings this weekend occurred at Clark and North Ave, Chicago and Lake Shore Drive, Cermak and State St, all of which are very affluent neighborhoods and have noting but investment. The problem Ms Foot-in-the-mouth" is that the criminals have no fear because there are no repercussions, so they commit crimes wherever and whenever they choose. The same police you now criticize for not doing enough are the same ones that you criticized for doing too much when you were at OPS and on the Police Accountability Task Force. You protected the criminals then and the chickens are now coming home to roost. You made your bed and now you must sleep in it, for four more years. Good luck, you are going to need it. By this time, 2023, the city of Chicago will be an epic war-zone thanks to you and your policies.

What have we learned in the past few years? Emptied the jails & crime went up! Stop holding repeat, repeat, repeat offenders, crime continued upward! States Attorney stops charging even obviously guilty suspects and VIOLENT CRIME INCREASES! New Mayor comes in & has novel view of how the south & west sides are victims & IT IS THE POLICE FAULT! Does the Mayor think police forgot about JVD conviction for shooting an armed suspect who interrupted the LSD traffic while higher than a kite? What about the responsibility of these people (victim's) to help themselves! How about ALL the freebies available to help them to climb out! How about the BS policies that don't let the police do their jobs and cause the truly defenseless to suffer the consequences of those people and folks who have no value of life & torment them!
Hey Mayor, GET REAL and realize that you need the police to do their job & actually help them do the job for the sake of the city, county and state!

She also said this:

Lightfoot said, “There’s a lot of causes of the problem, and we need to make sure that everybody in the entire criminal justice system understands the urgency and is doing their part as appropriate to hold people accountable.” Lightfoot also said she will be talking with judges and Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s office about making sure gun offenders aren’t allowed back onto the street soon after gun offenses.

“We can’t have a set of circumstances where the Police Department arrests somebody on Friday and they’re back out on the street — for serious gun offenses,” Lightfoot said. “I’m seeing some data that gives me concern, and I certainly will be talking to the chief judge of the entire system, chief judge of criminal courts, and the state’s attorneys about what we need to be doing better as partners to make sure that violent offenders are not cycling through the system so fast that they’re back on the street before the ink is dry on their paperwork.”

Lightfoot has made curbing gun violence a central goal of her administration.

“I’m upset as a human being that we’ve had so many people shot (and) so many homicides,” Lightfoot said. “I want to make sure our city is safe.”

Like anyone who saw the horrific video of the young lady shot holding the baby I was sickened. What further disgusts me is the lack of accountability for young men of color(mainly African American) and the ineffectiveness of our elected officials. Mayor Lightfoot call it what it is, Savagery. I am a 27 veteran who grew up in Englewood, worked in Englewood and watched the death of my beloved neighborhood. For a Mayor to downplay the cause/effect of a lost generation where the horrific is normal and the normal not possible and simply throw a spitball with “Poverty” at the wall is downright cowardly. Don’t blame the police when a thriving savage behavior becomes common place. As proud man of color we are begging you.

Authentic liberal jibberish. Scapegoat the police. People need to feel safe to invest in an area. Too many gangster that live by the gun. Too many lives drown in drugs and alcohol. Overly altruistic or out of touch with reality, either way, Lsquared, people need to take responsibility for their actions.

Look, I’d love to drive down the Kennedy at 100mph, but it’s not safe, someone could get hurt and I can’t afford the ticket and subsequent increased insurance cost, does that mean we should do away with speed limits or build race tracks for those who like to drive fast? Using your logic, yes. Next time ISP pulls me over, may I ask them to call you to explain your reasoning so that the nice officer doesn’t do his/her job of preserving public safety and enforcing the law?

So if the kids from the community have a park to play in, crime will go down? Riiight. Harken back to about 1971 when my brother and I were riding our bikes through a park in Rogers Park. We were just kids. All of a sudden, an honor student, also on a bike, approached us and tried to steal our bikes. Instead of enjoying the park, the little turd was up to no good and doing the same thing his grandkids may very we’ll be doing today. Btw, that kid really should have enjoyed the park instead of trying to relieve us of our bikes. If memory serves, the young lad took an unfortunate fall from his bike that resulted in a black eye. Hopefully his vision wasn’t impaired so that he could ride home safely.

One of my parents grew up near Washington Park. They said it was a lovely community...until it wasn't. First people stopped caring about the public areas, then their own lawns, then many of the old neighbors got the hell out and ran for the suburbs when the crime and other negative factors started increasing. Where she grew up is now completely ghetto -- burned out abandoned houses and vacant lots.

This isn't a poverty issue. It's a pride issue, it's an accountability issue, it's a "wanting your kids to have it better then you" issue. These things are missing in some communities, not in every household of course, but in enough that anyone trying to better themselves is swimming against a pretty violent current. What appears to be easy money (the street, the gangs, the EBT lifestyle) doesn't register as a full-stop lifelong mistake until it's generally too late.

These politicians, media, pastors - fake or otherwise - they could step up and hold the communities accountable for themselves, and blast that from the rooftops. But until the people involved in the mayhem and nonsense hold themselves to a higher standard, and enforce that with their children (and other people's children, the way it used to be), nothing will ever change. And they'll go on blaming everyone and everything around them. This is how societies die.

I love how "...literally nothing. Vacant lots, abandoned houses, no restaurants, no coffee shops, no grocery stores, no parks, no schools..." is equated with "...a good quality of life and providing residents with a sense that the city cares about them, that they have a stake in their own future..."

A Starbucks and a vegetable stand make people feel "loved" by their "city"? City "services" are required to provide the sense of a "stake in [one's] own future"? How about, PERMANENTLY REMOVE THE CRIMINALS? Or REDUCE TAXES? You know...eliminate the bad shit that Chicago has allowed to fester for the last 30 years. There are people who live in areas with population densities of 100 people per square mile. I don't hear them complaining, and I'd argue that they may be happier, safer, and financially better off than anyone living within Chicago city limits. For the mere fact that they DO live amongst "literally nothing". How is this POSSIBLE?

But it's a great snapshot into the mind of a liberal statist.

Can't wait to see the strategies that commander's throughout will implement to stop crime this summer. I know a very effective one in 025 is making sure that when 30 sector cars go down that that beat is covered by a 20 or 10 sector car until they're back up. Leaving the 10 sector and 20 sectors bare. Leaving cars scrambling to take a lunch with a relieve. It's quite a show on the radio. The 1300 Mason shooting will have never happened had this plan been up again for the summer since it was so effective last summer, NOT!!!I'm going to look forward to accountability Mondays like Monday Night Football now. I am so tired of this narrative. Yes certain areas don't have a lot of the things she mentioned. But who in their right mind is going to open up a restaurant or store in some of these areas? The disposable income just isn't there AND its too dangerous.

Oh and lets not forget an important fact. Most people in these neighborhoods are not shooters/killers, etc. So if it was just based on the area and/or not being well off more people would be involved in this destructive lifestyle.

But,guess she needs to keep spewing the Democratic narrative. I'm not a Republican either, just someone tired of this line of thought being shoved down our throats.

“Remember ICE theaters? I think it stood for inner city entertainment. I know there was one west and south. Both are now closed. There was also a Starbucks by the theater in 11. That actually lasted longer than I thought but eventually closed. You know what hasn't closed? The hundreds of liquor stores throughout the impoverished parts of Chicago. Sorry but all the coffee shops in the world won't change crime. It has to start from within and the police will have about 1% influence on the outcome”

Don’t forget about the CVS on Kedzie and Madison that closed about, what was it, 2 years ago now? Bunch of restaurant/bars that are vacant in 011 after being shut down because the community can’t behave themselves. Brown sugar on Madison on the border of 011/12 got shutdown because of the community. Gas stations, the only place to get some stuff in the ghetto, get robbed and burglarized regularly. Anytime you put anything nice in these areas, they’ll ruin it. They’ve proven it time and time again.

Lets face it, Lori is nothing more than a far left liberal who thinks that government is the answer to all of the problems in certain areas. How many neighborhoods were middle class, decent, safe places to live in. I lived in the Gresham neighborhood for many years. In the last 60's the neighborhood started changing from white to black. The house we lived in was the first for my mother and father. They were very proud of the fact that they owned a home. In order to afford this home both parents worked. My dad was a laborer and my mother a stock clerk. In other words they did not have good paying jobs but they put a roof over my head and food on the table. My nights I had hamburgers and pasta. The night Martin Luther King got killed someone shot a shotgun into our front living room window. That was it for my parents. They sold the house and moved around the Midway area. I remember that night like it was yesterday. My mother and father hiding under a table and my dad had a gun in his hand. That once nice neighborhood now is a shit hole. There were many places one could find employment. AS the neighborhood changed so did the industries that were there. They all moved out. Why?

Well get use to it Miss Mayor, when court and jails let them out, to go right back to doing what put them in jail the first time. Stop the bullshit about they have nothing to do so we need to give them more, the people in these neighbor hoods have soo much money going into them it is crazy. The facts. We have a lame duck racist states attorney and a wimp of a sheriff that refuses to house violent criminals . We have a big influx of new officers that are taught by officers that have very little street experience to begin with. They are taught T.V.B's are real police work and tact teams that are making bullshit arrests by following the beat cars like kids following a ice cream truck. Getting event numbers especially PCI numbers to sound like we are making progress is very pathetic and to justify the fact we have daily good interactions with the public is also so pathetic. Headquarters has a bunch of self absorbed individuals running around with big egos not having a clue nor do they fully support the backbone of the department although most of them cheated or fucked their way up the ranks. Wonder why the suicide rate is up no confidence in our department yet alone this city like beating our heads into a brick wall. The men and women in patrol are the backbone of this department. We can't get the support or necessary equipment upgrades yet spend thousands on camera and CDC rooms. Then we have city council crying the city is broke doing everything in their power to short change our pensions that they promised when hired and eliminate our benefits when we retire yet they seem to always walk away with great retirement packages. A city council that manage to pass unnecessary projects without asking the taxpayers wasting thousands if not millions of tax dollars instead of spending on fixing crumbling infrastructure or paying obligations like pension debt all while raising taxes yet cutting services. Oh lets us not forget the over use of the word TRANSPARENCY and a society that has created a anti police sentiment. Chicago is dying along with those that are trying to defend it.

Grew up in the Chicago Lawn area in the 50s and 60s and graduated from Lindblom in 67. Lived in the burbs after that but got into Chicago Lawn now and then until the early 70s. Bicycled to the 63rd & Kedzie area from Summit in late 85 before moving out of state and was getting bad vibes even then. You couldn't pay me to walk around in there now. Street-viewed the block I lived on near 63rd & Kedzie not long ago. The buildings still looked (mostly) okay in the street view, but there were a LOT of fences and quite a few gates with keypad locks, and a lot of bars on basement windows -- don't recall seeing nearly that many fences when I grew up there, and the keypads and window bars probably wouldn't be there if they weren't badly needed. Bloody shame.

Lori - and leftists in general - need to understand one basic truth, and that is that businesses are created in order to make a profit. And it's pretty difficult to do that when 1) you can only stay open during daylight hours so employees can come and go without being raped, mugged or murdered, 2) you have to deal with 5-finger discounts that often outnumber actual sales, 3) your suppliers won't come to the location, so you have the added burden of having to pick up your goods at a distribution center, and 4) you have to include bulletproof glass and anti-theft equipment in your building design. When there was only one Kroger store left on 8 Mile Road in Detroit, the company would relocate their worst managers there hoping they would quit, rather than firing them and then having to pay out unemployment. When it became too expensive and risky to keep the store open for this purpose, they closed the doors. When the folk decide they'd rather have grocery stores and coffee shops in their neighborhoods instead of crack houses and chop shops, then maybe they won't be "disenfranchised" any more.

Eventually the decision needs to be made to actually provide protection for ALL of Chicago or hurt the feelings of those who contribute absolutely nothing to society. It’s that simple, those who will suffer the worst are African American Children and Women if nothing is done. It’s that simple, data and common sense dictate that a certain demographic is going to commit an overwhelming percentage of the crimes and is manipulating the word racism to flourish.

Lori, about that "poverty": DOW

June 4, 2019: 25, 332 (Trump)

June 11, 2015: 18, 039 (Obama)
Dow Jones Industrial Average: UP 7,293 points (UP 40.429%)
Disclaimer: these views are my own. The DOW is NOT the
economy, and the economy is not the DOW. But if you have
a 401(K) based retirement plan (most of America does), your
account is UP vs. 6-11-2015.

Here we go again, an official memo just came out from Deputy Devereux to the 1st, 2nd 3rd, 18, 19, 20 and 24th districts that they MUST have at least 1 marked squad with its emergency lights activated pro-actively going up and down lake shore dr./lakefront every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday Nights until further notice...So Again, the fucked up brass bosses we have (that have NO fucking clue whats to do) do the same bullshit we did in the past and proved not to be effective in cutting crime...all its doing is taking a beat car or 2 (with midnites being short manpower anyway) and doing absolutely nothing while other cars are answering service calls and going into backlogs...just more brainy ideas that WILL NOT work. Nothing will ever change until we get competent bosses and a mayor in this city.

Early Some weekend morning, Lori should take her family for a walk. They should start at Kedzie and Roosevelt and walk west to Ogden. This used to be a vibrant neighborhood with businesses, synagogues, churches and homes, until it was burnt down in the riots of 1968. Poor Black people (African American had not come into use yet ) acting out their anger and frustrations. Then she should drive her family over to Pulaski and Madison. A once thriving business center that rivaled the loop. Same story here. These areas have not recovered, and may never be what they once were. Lori doesn’t know this because she was growing up on bucolic Ohio. Not the west/south sides of Chicago...which she really doesn’t know the history of.

"Disinvestment"? Lightfoot has cause and effect backwards. It's crime that drives out investment. Investors will go and invest just about anywhere that a profit can be made. That is the dynamic that has driven the global expansion of capitalism as an economic system over the past four centuries. The investments that matter most to the quality of life in a given neighborhood aren't the ones from the big corporations but the ones from small businessmen: the mom-and-pop stores, restaurants, ice cream shops, garages, beauty salons, etc. But there is one thing that investors big and small value more than a profit -- their own lives. Corporate execs can safely invest at a safe distance from centers of death and mayhem. Small businesses generally cannot. Few small businessman will risk their lives to set up their shop in a war zone where they're a target. It is the unending crime that drives all economic activity out of Chicago's black neighborhoods. Until crime is recognized as a real problem in itself, a problem to be combatted here and now -- rather to be excused -- there will be no investment in these neighborhoods. But it's easier to blame everyone except the criminals for these neighborhoods' plague of crime.

Disinvestment? Food Desert? Poverty Crimes ? How about Cabrini Green and The Marshall Field Homes, Proof that those words are BULLSHIT.. Let's bring up Jim Crow..

6/04/2019 12:29:00 PM

The block north of the newly revamped marshall field (MF) project now has a 1/2 way house and right across the street, a woman's shelter. Across the street, a bit south $800k homes are being built. The blocks from schiller to north ave and surrounding areas will never recover. Ever see the grade school on the block behind that project? They open the doors and ALL the children walk across the street into Marshall Field project.

Worse, multple trash cans exist in front of MF project and 1500 block of Sedgwick. The ferals toss their trash over 5 ft high fences, the sidewalk and the street.

Remember the destroyed projects south of the newer 18th district police station? The city is gut rehabbing them and moving ferals back in. Yep, you can't afford a gut rehab, but these ghetto wonders are getting brabd new, tricked out homes they'll immediately turn into shit boxes, then sue the city.

Oh and a developer is building $500k homes, with i believe set aside housing, across the street frome the afore mentioned police station. Who would ever live in violent and pay $500k plus high taces and assesments to never step outside?

So Monday's will be accountability sessions with the Mayor, Ed and his "Mutts" that claim to provide Police Leadership for the city. Ed, does she yell or scream at you. Does she threaten your staff. Or maybe she's very clinical, direct and very prosecutorial in her line of questioning. Just wondering.

What does Special Ed tell the Mayor about his new strategies to stop the killings and mayhem. How about the Mutts - anything of value from the grey and balding "Wizards of Smart". Rumor has it, the Mutts use a Wisdom Rock, fortune cookies, or that 8 ball talking thingy, and on holiday weekends they use special juju beads and animal entrails. The Mutts routinely rotate these high tech crime fighting tools to keep the criminals off balance and fool Lori for another week.

We are all holding our breath in excitement and waiting for this weeks new crime reduction strategy. Ed, you should know the troops are betting on your favorite crime fighting tool for this weekend. Heavy wagering is on the fortune cookie strtegy. You get some really good ideas inside those cookies and you also have a late afternoon snack too. Just don't eat the paper.

Ed you are one smart dude. Keep coming up with more good ideas like last weekend. Well... maybe not so much. But I'm sure you're only one fortune cookie away from real success.

Speaking about two recent homicide cases, Chief Hall said, “There are individuals in this city who have returned from prison who cannot find a job, who are not educated. In those instances those individuals are forced to commit violent acts.”

6/04/2019 09:14:00 PM

Can’t find a job and must resort to violent acts because folks are uneducated and served time in prison? That’s unconsonsciable, who wouldn’t want to hire these folks?

News flash, Chief: people without criminal records who have college degrees have struggled to find jobs. But here’s an idea, Chief, why don’t you hire these people as your babysitter, handyman or parent’s caregiver? Go on, give em an opportunity. Problem solved!

On another note, Chief, can I ax you a question? Is there a chance that lack of parenting, lack of respect for others and the glorification of thug life has anything to do with the fate of these folks?

I’m so tired of people not being held responsible for their actions and now the people in power are blaming everything and everyone except the criminals. This is out of control, stop coddling criminals and start heavily penalizing their crimes. If there’s no deterrent, you’re simply fueling the fire.

A lot of us grew up with humble beginnings and/or in poverty. Krimesha grew up in poverty and look at her stellar career.
I don’t have the fancy credentials that Krimesha has, but here’s my story: My dad was kicked out of high school, his father was a womanizing alcoholic who left my grandmother with three kids. My grandmother worked retail to make ends meet. My dad got his shit together after being drafted, but life wasn’t glamorous. As a kid, our family of six fit into a used VW bug. That’s what dad could afford. Back then, those cars didn’t have heat. Second hand clothes, a second hand bicycle and canned food was the norm. We lived within our means. My siblings and I all went to CPS, the same school system that folks in the community have access to. We didn’t necessarily like school and we didn’t receive the best education (we weren’t the best students admittedly), but our parents did a decent job of teaching us right from wrong. We don’t steal, commit violent acts and as a result none of us have been to prison.

Many kids in the community wear shoes that to this day I can’t afford, their parents drive cars that I can’t afford and they shop at stores that I can’t afford...yet many appear not to pursue education and choose to blame everyone else in the event they do something wrong. WTF, be responsible. Instead of putting emphasis on clothes, cars, becoming a star, feeling entitled and showing disrespect for humanity and the law, how about getting that education, a job and waiting until you’re a responsible adult to have a child?

Lastly, whomever hired the Chief should be fired along with the Chief.
