Stop Drinking and Driving

We don't care what excuses you come up with - if you are drunk, don't drive:
  • About 12 hours after an off-duty police officer slammed into a Gresham restaurant, killing one woman and seriously injuring another, the department announced it would seek charges against the unnamed officer on suspicion of driving under the influence.

In announcing the new development, the department did not revise earlier details about the crash, in which the off-duty officer suggested he swerved into the restaurant when faced with a split-second decision when the black Toyota sedan he was driving was cut off by another motorist early Sunday.

The officer, whose name was not released, was driving east in the 1700 block of West 87th Street near the intersection with South Wood Street at about 2:45 a.m., according to his account, which was in an online notification from the Chicago Police Department. He was going to turn onto Wood Street when a vehicle heading west on 87th Street cut him off by turning onto Wood Street in front of him, police said.

To avoid hitting that car, the officer made a sharp turn and went up onto the curb and into Tony’s Philly Steak at 1757 W. 87th St., where his car hit two women.
Being in an accident is excusable.

Being in an accident while drunk isn't.

Being in an accident while drunk and someone dies?

Goes to show you Rahm and Eddie were desperate and had to scrape the bottom of the barrel just to fill the empty seats at the training academy. This is on them.

The Police bar is just one block to the west. I’m sure that’s where he came from. His life will be forever changed. When something goes wrong and you are the Police, it’s all over. Enough said.

In the age of Uber there is just no excuse for this. Do the right thing...plead guilty. Be a man, own what you did and go serve your sentence. You’ve embarrassed our profession enough. Don’t make it worse with some bullshit excuse about how it happened. It happened because you were drunk. Period.

I wonder if the Media will cover this story and show the images non-stop of the Evil drunk Police killer. I bet it would be the same if it was a cameraman or reporter who drunk drove. No excuses, but .083 or 4/1000 over. Should have refused the blow as long as possible. More buzzed than pickled.

Going to be an expensive lesson: take Uber.

Simple. Use Uber or taxi. If you can afford to get drunk, you can afford to pay someone to drive your drunk ass home. Not saying this officer WAS drunk because I don't know. But please learn from this incident.

Off duty PO E/B on 87th st attempting to turn right unto Wood St swerved to avoid a W/B vehicle on 87th street? At 30MPH if he was even doing 30MPH, he SHOULD of been able to apply the brakes and not jump any curb and kill anyone. DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE !!!!

Having
a) lost 2 family members to a drunk driver, who'd just been released from yet another drunk driving conviction;

b) my dear departed sibling and I both been in separate drunk driver car wrecks, where local police refused to charge teen drivers because daddy was a big shot and we received citations, when they roared through side street; and

c) been in countless key demands/arguments from drunken coworkers, dates and friends: our drunk driving laws don't work.

IF YOU'VE EVEN HAD ONE DRINK: TAKE A HIRED CAR. NOW, THEY ARE CHEAP ENOUGH. Back in the day, you realy didn't have that option.

I truly feel sorry for this PO. (and of course, the affected families, it's a mind numbing horrible path for everyone from this day forward)

Readers, don't hate on me. Why was this officer drinking? I'm betting the horrors seen everyday without anyone backing up/providing guidance/help, etc. The frustration is too much for anyone to bear.

I'm inclined to take other options for drunk driving POs, rather than jail, loss of job, etc. Hell a former executive at major north suburban company got a regular free pass for years of drunk driving stops. He was nicknamed michelob in the company.

Not saying LEOs deserve a pass, am stating deeper and different resolutions are needed. LEOs are no different these days than military returning after war zone duty. Actually, I think it's worse for LEOs. Not taking away anything from miliary service, rather adding LEO's to similar, deeper emotional and physical carnage heap. We expect to much.

Maybe start a secret LEO "drinking rescue" hotline? Someone can call it for a drinking LEO lift and keep it safe.

Everyone, it's your responsibility to help those who help us. Start standing up as the good citizens did during the recent PO car vs truck crash.

Our LEOs are under seige every single day. They walk on a plank for you. We give back to the Dude, Inc community only to have them rape, rob, and destroy everything in sight. Let's put our money and actions towards those working hard to keep us safe. Sure there's a bad apple in every bunch, but from my experiences, most are amazing heroes.

I'm no longer donating time, skills, or money to useless charities. I'm only gifting to LEO related. You should too.

Special thanks SCC and all LEOs for this blog. It really is a huge eye opener. God bless our blue and keep revealing the truth.

Like it or not the police are and should be held to a higher standard. Bad enough stupid sober cops are killing innocent citizens while chasing for stupid reason, then you have an off duty drunk killing innocents. Reckless homicide at the very least should be good for a 10 spot. Predict this cop will have a hard tome in jail. That is if the Code does not miraculously change the facts of the case and he coasts. We'll see.

No he won’t, he’s only going to get charged for DUI. They have witnesses who saw him get cut off which caused him to lose control and drive into the building being over the limit did not cause the crash it only shows he was impaired while operating a vehicle

If the officer wasn’t over the limit he wouldn’t got ticketed or anything.

You have no idea what you are talking about. He’s already been charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI. Prosecutor said he was racing a friend and going 73 mph before the accidenthe Thanks for your input

The crime scene was out of control before police or fire arrived on scene. A bar was closing across the street and they all ran across and started filming with their cell phones. Not one person tried to help anyone on the scene. It was absolute chaos before emergency vehicles arrived and everyone knows how the community listens to the police.

Prosecutors also said authorities obtained a warrant to search Finley’s car and seized the air bag control module that records the vehicle’s speed within five seconds of the air bag deploying.

The data revealed that in those final seconds, Finley had the gas pedal at full throttle and the car sped up to 75 mph from 73 mph before he engaged the brakes and crashed into the restaurant.

Village of Oak Lawn also loaded with drunk drivers all down Cicero, from Chicago 87 st. south to 95 st. and area of 111 st & Cicero ave. Cars with loud mufflers, no License Plates, speeders and Lane weavers, Tailgaters, many who are leaving "Happy Hour" (not happy if one of your loved ones or you are hit and killed or seriously injured due to one of them) Taverns, Bars, Restaurants, Hotels, in the area after being overserved regularly, and not a Cop in sight making a stop or enforcing DUI Laws. Maybe because the boozer Oak Lawn Officials don't want to ruin their Free Drink Privilege at several of these local bars, taverns, bistros, restaurants, and Lounges, for themselves. Anyway, Drive cautiously while in these areas, because overserved Motorists are heading straight to their vehicles after drinking for hours, and heading out amongst you, Un-Checked by local Police, who have an abysmal record for DUI Arrests. Drinking and Driving is no laughing matter. Stay Safe, and report erratic drivers via 911. The live you save may be your own, a family memembers, or friends.
