- Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s new administration wants to offer the Chicago Teachers Union a five-year contract with what the mayor describes as “a significant pay raise” — but union officials balked at the city’s pitch to settle a brewing dispute over a new deal for public school educators.
Chicago Public Schools negotiators submitted a proposal that includes a 14% overall cost-of-living pay increase to be paid out over the course of a five-year deal that extends through the 2023-24 school year, which would cross over into a possible second term for the new mayor.
The raises, which a city official said would cost CPS an estimated $325 million, were delivered to a neutral fact-finder who is presiding over negotiations, as part of an ongoing legal process that still must cross several thresholds in the coming weeks before a teachers strike could occur.

When is FOP going to exhibit some transparency regarding the negotiations process? It has dragged on for over two years. Some issues should have already been resolved at the bargaining table providing a foundation for arbitration. Members don't expect to know everything, but we have been told virtually nothing! I am beginning to believe in the conspiracy theory that a demand for arbitration is intentionally being delayed by FOP, because of union election considerations.

Teachers continue to ask for outrageous benefits or threaten to strike if they don’t get their way. Doing that math and adjusting for inflation, that means to achieve what the markets did under Obama, the Trump average on the most familiar of the indexes would have to hit 50k, should he get a second term. Not going to happen.

There's no damn money for teacher pay raises!! Chicago already spends around $14k per student per year and they have class sizes of around 30 kids. Do the math. That's $420k per class size. That's insane!! Where is rest of the money going??

What is to be learned watching this? Well for one the teachers get whatever they want because there is the possibility that they will strike! But another way of looking at the CTU and the schools is the fact that CPS is a continual underperformer when the students proficiency levels are tested! So why doesn't the MSM look at this? Why is there no continual criticism of the poor performance of the teachers?

ps: a few years ago I had a bookmark on my old computer for an Education Website that showed the money spent per student by School District. Chicago was near the TOP in the nation while the results were near the bottom. Nothing's changed!

The teacher's union has the upper hand in these negotiations and the they and the mayor know it. The mayor does not want any job actions in her first term for starters. The union can hold the parents hostage if they strike and the union and mayor also know that. The cops have no leverage whatsoever. I am not privy to the police negotiations, but I am willing to bet that the major hangups are disciplinary and assignment issues first, and the end to duty availability pay for supervisors.

The market closed the day of the election at 18300. It went up to 19700 by the end of Obamas term, not because of Obama, they were happy to have someone with a brain running the economy. The economy and wages were flat under Obama. My deferred comp never looked better. As far as the people of Ohio, Pennsylvania or West Virginia They are still going for Trump. Just because the liberal media is trying to make you believe they are does not make it so. My first day when I ask what do you want to do when you grow up, I swear it’s usually either rap, NBA or acting. The teachers are a joke. They are incompetent. But the real reason the students are bad is that when 9.5 came in, he pushed for social promotions. Rahm did this to hype the graduation rate so he could brag about it when he runs again. The future rappers know they will graduate and be free to terrorize tourists and steal, Rob, sling dope and carjack. But they are graduated. They are absolutely unaware or not interested in how to act in civilized society. Teachers deserve nothing. But Lori will give them anything and everything because of racial and identity politics.

Double time for holidays is already in place when you consider that you get comp time added even if you are RDO on the holiday. Give me 4% a year and job security. I very quick and simple fix would be to fix our earned and contributed to, pension fund so cops don’t have to worry about their future everyday. This weighs heavy on everyones’ minds and we feel betrayed. Also, a contract and a fair raise would help too. Being forced to live here while the cost of living increases, needs to be compensated. Financial worries can take a toll.

***I didn't either...I have the Chicago Patrolmen's Credit Union (which sucks) and even though I checked the green slip and said I was paid on the 3rd my bank says it wont be released until the 8th...wtf??? is that bullshit. The teachers were offered a 14% raise over 5 years but what no one is reporting is part of the deal stated that their medical insurance was going up 4% so it essentially was a 10% raise. I’d expect worse for us.

In their last contract negotiations, the city wanted the teachers to contribute a higher percentage into their pension. The teacher’s union increased their demand for higher raises to add the requested pension contribution increase. We can see how well that worked!

Excluding the love of your life, do you really think the other teachers in CPS, especially the grade schools, are comparable to us? Have you been into any of these schools other than the one in your neighborhood? Have you dealt with assistant principals? Have you seen the red shirt wearing commies during school walkouts?
Of course there are good teachers, the majority of the ones I personally know are. The thing is, the ones I know make up a tiny fraction of the monstrosity that is CPS. I've seen these morons while I am at work. I got to know them even better while doing follow up investigations as a Detective. That's where the real fun starts. You get to deal with the "bosses". After talking to them, you are completely bewildered, demoralized and whatever other adjective I missed, when you realize they make way more money than you. There is also the tremendous amount of crime they sweep under the rug. Crime not only committed by students, but by staff and parents. It's like to good ole' boys club in some of the schools, and the off duty CPD that work there are just as bad too.
It's their turn. They run this shit now.
