Remember, the Department is throwing OT money at anyone and everyone along with the usual units having their regular days off cancelled.

You better hope they don't. Cook County's radio bands are all almost encrypted, this is including the suburbs. If someone is talking on a band, either field unit or zone, they OWN that frequency. No breaking in with "EMERGENCY." You only get a tone. Nobody else can hear you. They've had chases that go from start to finish without anyone ever being able to talk on the radio. I can't believe someone hasn't been killed yet with this radio system. But if you talk to the know it all CCSPD Sgt. that's in charge of that shit show, he'll condescendingly talk down to you, tell you how great it is, as he's the smartest guy on the planet (Hook him up with Lemmer and you'll get areal shit show.) A lot of the suburban bands aren't very busy, so it's not a big deal, but someone will get killed in Chicago with it, believe me.Remember ONE guy keys up, and NOBODY else can get on...Nobody can hear them either.

The one point that really hit was society needs to measure violence by people shot not people killed. With our 911 medical system and trauma centers they are saving more people than 30 years ago.

The main caveat with these numbers is each weekend was of a different length depending on what day the 4th fell on. Plan accordingly.

I have to agree with the larger estimate. It would be tragic, but the thugs in the city have no fear of the police or of the courts.The current guns laws are not enforced.
Going with 65-70 shot and 10 dead. 4 days hot and humid. Don’t think rain will make much difference because it’s a party weekend. People have been acting crazy since last weekend building up to the holiday.

This is possible, we used encrypted radios on the Federal task force in the 80's. But, it is an expensive thing to undertake, especially for such a large organization as the CPD. Every radio must also be replaced.

I'm sure some vendors have said digital radio is the best thing since sliced bread. It is a finicky system and real expensive to install and get running correctly. As a point of interest, aircraft still us old fashioned AM radio for their voice communications. Why? It is simple, reliable, and in an emergency you can broadcast over other transmissions and be understood. And with the city out of money is there money for that?

But but but, I remember something about everyone having to have health care...It's mandatory. I get a 1090 something or other B & C from the city every year to file with my federal taxes, proving I have health care.
Hmmmm. Maybe I'm wrong...But I know everyone in the hood files taxes, cause we do about a million identity theft reports around tax time...I can't imagine they'd file taxes and then have to pay a penalty for not having insurance. Maybe I should call the Obamacare hotline and have it explained to me.
