The city cannot produce child care options to alleviate the harm caused by their contract. Under the collective bargaining rights we the undersigned are giving notice that all undersigned officers will be forced to make use of Federal and State family leave to stay home and take care of our children for the duration of the school strike.

Growing up I used to love 4th of Jul, running around in a plaid short sleeve shirt with sparklers and an orange pop mustache with my friends. After almost 30 years on the job I have learned to dread this day. Even though I live in one of the safest neighborhoods in the city it seems like the fireworks nowadays remind me of shots fired and some seriously awful days on the job. It’s embarassing when I have to excuse myself from my neighbors and go inside. I use the excuse of having a migraine to leave but the constant explosions and gunfire like sounds make my heart pound and the memories of that Adrenalin rush when you heard the loud reports I did almost daily, force me to go in and put music on headphones. It seems like the 4th extends the rest of the summer and a lot of sleepless nights for me. Does anyone else have these issues?
I was raised in a Democrat household. The Republicans were the party of Nixon and humorless rich men. To see how low the Democrats have sunk and condone aggressive Anti-American Socialists is truly frightening for the future of the country. I believe in helping my neighbor and those in need but their party policies have actively sucked the life out of the middle class America. The party of JFK is more in line with the policies of Khrushchev. To offset this the Republicans have appeased them to no end. Our country is still the greatest country in the world but is fracturing in ways not seen since the 1860’s. Our current President has set the the economy on fire and is neither a Dem or Rep, he’s truly unique,obnoxious and exactly what we need. These are dangerous times and he has my full support and by the way where can I buy the Betsy Ross Nike’s?

I have somewhat tolerable (not that I really have choice) tinnitus that my Doctor
contributes hearing loss to the roof mounted siren, blaring radio and shoulder mic.
Let’s not forget poor hearing protection on the range.

Apparently he’s a big micromanager with no personality and no real police experience. I’ve talked to several P.O.’s who work in 011 Tac and on the watch and I guess he’s that guy that can’t be trusted and no one wants to work for. Glad I got out of that place before he came. He sounds like and officer safety issue that no one would want to work for.

It sounds like you’re having a difficult time with this. Please find someone through CPD to talk to about it. Right now you’ve found a way to cope (going inside and putting on headphones), but at some point that might not be enough. A professional counselor may be able to help put things in perspective or suggest some coping mechanism—just talking face to face with someone may help. Take care of yourself—you deserve it.

Why stay in Chicago for the 4th if you don't have to. I leave every year and have a good time. Even if you don't want to go far the suburbs outside of their 20 minutes fireworks show do not put up with that shit. And yes some years it does last all summer. I liked blowing fireworks as a kid buy not now. Some of these adults get their rocks off blowing one after another after another. How many booms do you need to make you happy?
