Once again the west side comes through. About a week ago, the second watch got a call of a Disturbance at a gas station. A disturbed individual was waving something around, pointing it at people and threatening to blow the place up. When officers arrived, they found he had an honest-to-god flame thrower. He keep lighting the ignition source and waving it around before cops managed to convince him to put the damn thing down.
Did you know flame throwers are completely legal to own in all 50 states? Tesla sells them, the same guy who's going to tunnel from downtown to O'Hare one of these days.
We hadn't heard about this, but a quick check of arrests shows there was a guy arrested for Disorderly Conduct and a flame thrower was inventoried. We're going to call the Range tomorrow and see if this falls under "Auxiliary Weapons" and go qualify next week.

Flame thrower? Really? Are we sure it wasn’t a roofing torch? Those flames only go 2ft if that and powered by propane. Also, Elon Musk never made a “flame thrower” it’s a roofing torch with a nerf gun around it. It’s even called “not a flame thrower”.
The Boring company sold a run of 20000 flame throwers a while back for 500$ each. Not sure that in this case it was a unit from that sale but plenty of youtube videos on how to make your own for much less. Only on the west side.

To be honest, that is sort of like a zip gun. Many idiots can make homemade guns of sorts (simple single fire shotguns are pipes pushed together against a shell with a bb for a striker pin) and making a flamethrower is not too hard either. Making it safe is another matter but making it is basic.

Pro tip: be careful shooting napalm based fuel out of your M9A1-7 at close range or against solid objects. The fuel "rod" will splatter and you don't want that coming back at you.....
Elon Musk’s Boring Co flamethrower is a glorified Coleman camping stove, mostly flash. A military flamethrower shots flaming sticky jelly over quite a distance. I’m not up on the legal issues or what this guy had, but there’s a very big difference.
