Burke Unemployed?
- Embattled Ald. Edward Burke is no longer a partner at the downtown law firm where he did property tax appeal work for a long list of influential businesses and where federal authorities allege he tried to strong-arm people into becoming clients in exchange for help at City Hall, records show.
According to paperwork the Klafter & Burke law firm filed with Secretary of State Jesse White’s office in April, Burke dissociated from his partnership in the firm. That leaves Burke’s daughter, Jennifer, and two others as partners in the firm, according to the documents.
Reached by phone earlier this month, the alderman declined to discuss his relationship with the firm. Representatives of the firm could not be reached for comment.
Does this "dissociation" mean that Burke is seeing the writing on the wall and he's trying to protect the firm? The feds have him dead-bang on the wire? We can all hope so.

These assholes in the brokerage and law firm business
are never really gone. Most get some type of extended
yearly payouts years after they have physically left. It's
all about ego and loopholes in the tax law. I hope the Feds
find a nice cage for this low down rat.

Greedy asshole - how old is this fuck? 70 plus? He made all the money in the world - Alderman for decades, printing money at the tax appeals law firm (in a County where values always go up - even though home values are flat) - most normal folks would have been happy just with the pension alone. How much fucking money did this asshole need? There’s no u-haul trailer at the end of the Hearst. Sounds guilty to me from the news summaries ... just a greedy fuck.

I think his legal strategy with respect to the federal charges is to try to delay as long as possible with the hope of kicking the bucket before he has to go to trial.
I say he takes a plea. When you’ve eaten in the finest restaurants in Chicago for the last fifty years, you can’t do hard time. Also you can’t wear prison garb after you’ve been tailored the way Burke has over the years.

My guess is nobody. He’s in his mid 70’s and will run it thru the courts for years until he’s too old for jail
Burke was just a front man that delivered qualified clientele to the firm, like privateers ShortShanks and Rahm are doing now.
Wonder who’s buying his burner phones these days and more importantly, will his side street get plowed this coming season to make those Dearborn St court proceedings.
