Groot Takes on Teachers

  • Chicago Public School teachers are one step closer to a possible strike after rejecting the city's latest contract offer.

CPS increased its offer to teachers after a recommendation from an independent fact finder, but the union rejected the fact finder's report, setting the state for a potential strike if a deal isn't reached in the next 30 days.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot welcomed CPS teachers back to their classrooms Monday, and is hoping they will have a new contract by the time school starts on September 3. The city is sweetening the deal by upping its offer of a 14 percent raise over the next five years to 16 percent.
Coming a few days before Groot's "state of the city" address, the CTU is playing chicken with a weak mayor who is about to break bad news all over Chicagoans.

This might actually work out for the FOP if Groot's speech attempts to blame the police, but here are the teachers turning down 14%. The FOP ought to have a few press releases or such to point out the greedy teachers are turning down a sizable percentage AND still only pay a tiny fraction of what everyone else does to the sickly pensions.

The teachers can strike and parents in the working class areas need their marxist indoctrinating baby sitters will inconvenience the parents, requiring them to get childcare because both parents are gainfully employed to pay the ever skyrocketing property taxes to fund our city government. In the ghetto, the free babysitters will inconvenience baby mama with having to watch her children for a few extra days, interrupting mommies masters degree studies. Of course, the teachers aren't happy with 15% over 5 years. Sheeeeet, where can I get one of those?

Social workers/counselors/people who work in special education classrooms are not the same position?

You can run a nightclub and hire a coat check girl and also a girl who will greet patrons and accept their coats and in return give the patrons a ticket which later can be exchanged to get the same coat given back when the patron is ready to exit.

Less students = less teachers
Less teachers = no increase in tax money

I must be getting this wrong along with how CC jail need more money, even though number of assholes in custody is split in half

8===D

The 3 unions better get there asses in gear and let the city know that they will be irrevocably harmed since their children will not be attending school and they are held captive by their parents employment and mandatory residence. Every officer who has a child in CPD will need to ensure their child’s safety by taking family leave. Crimes is down and season weather has no affect on crime so the city should fair well without officers on family leave.

This will be the third strike in seven years by the Communists Teachers Union. Mind you the state law doesn't allow them to strike for wages but he we are, with them demanding more or they will walk. The shit head teachers, who are the highest paid in the nation and only pay two percent into their pension actually feel they are not respected enough and want more. The greed is disgusting and it just shows what a bunch of liberal assholes can do when they just utter the words "strike". Meanwhile the rest of us are looking at a possible paycut because we have zero leverage thanks to the state law not allowing us to strike and no law that demands the city bargain in good faith.

The nail in her coffin will be ANY tax increases and she knows it, no campaign promises fulfilled yet, violence is still up but yet shes always out of town....more like "OUT OF TOUCH"!!!! Looking forward to the bullshit on the 29th. By the way, since there is a hiring freeze is the NEW academy still a go?

Key points to not ignore: 1. CTU endorsed Preckwinkle, not Lightfoot, so animus was already in place between CTU and Lori. 2. Lightfoot's hatred of the Chicago Police will for this brief period be diminished, because now she has a new "scapegoat." Let them strike, it will take the Heat off of CPD and force the City to accept a realistic
and higher settlement for the police. Every day makes the Retro check bigger! Stay Safe and Strong. Baby "G"

""We need to see the schools commit to hiring social workers, librarians, counselors, people who work in special education classrooms," Sharkey said."
That sounds like the Union is trying to increase the size of their bargaining unit which would be considered a "permissive subject of bargaining" and if that were the only item that the two sides couldn't agree on, a strike based on that one item would be an illegal strike (per the NLRB).
There are three types of subjects of bargaining: mandatory subjects(wages, benefits, work rules, etc.), illegal subjects (we don't want any women in the union, etc.), and permissive subjects (increasing the size of a bargaining unit, internal union affairs, etc.). The bargaining parties can talk about permissive subjects but there can't be a strike or lockout over those types of subjects.
Look it up.
I have to believe Groot knows this but she is pretty stupid so you never know. Sharkey seems pretty sharp so I'm guessing he is aware of this issue. Groot would need to bargain and settle on every issue except this issue of hiring social workers, etc. Then let CTU strike and she can run them into the ground.

Couldn't the city buy a package from the suburbs or other city for less money? Fire all teachers if they strike , hire kids right out of college , give them one year to find an apartment, house in Chicago . You will have energized, educated teachers , not burnt out baby sitters.
Play hardball Lori , take all offers away , demand teachers pay in 9.5% into teachers pension fund , require all teachers to pass the basic skills test to remain employed by CPS , start enforcing residency requirements.
Make them teach a full day , one lunch period , rest of time teaching .
You can hire lay people to act as study hall monitors , for 2/3 of a teachers salary .
Case workers, social workers , let the Principals take on a few extra duties .
Counselor position could be in study hall , available to students all day .counselors would be assisted by study hall monitors.
Overpaid babysitters .

Public school teachers in Chicago are legally required to pay 9 % of their salaries toward their own pensions. But since 1981, as a result of contract negotiations between CPS and CTU, Chicago teachers only pay 2 % of their salaries toward their pensions. City taxpayers have to cover the remainder of the employee contribution. Since 2018, this practice has cost taxpayers $1.9 billion.

Education majors replaced Psych and Sociology as the dumb kids on campus in the academic world some time ago. They can literally teach calculus with nothing more to qualify them than a dumb bell math class taken as a freshman. They spend the majority of the degree requirements in how-to-teach classes. Seriously, it's a crock that is regularly cited by professors in other fields as how to game the system. So to have these polished turds insisting on being treated as anything more that glorified day care workers is beyond BS. Pay them what they're worth; and we'd see the salaries drop by at least half. The failure of the No Child Left Behind Act is just the most obvious example of the failures of the 'profession'. Kick the kids out of school at 16, with the motivated going to trade schools and the connected to college would save money and solve many of the problems with bored and coddled juveniles. Every other industrialized country recognizes the limitations of these clowns, but teacher unions as part and parcel of the Democrap Party. And an obvious example of its failings.

Our kids in CPS? What kind of enhanced devil weed are you smoking? I spent thousands every year to keep my daughter away from that. Grammar and High School, Catholic University. Sergeant's pay, still had part timers to keep up. Kid's mom was a CPS teacher. Decided that she would not contribute, because "Public Schools are just fine." She actually said that in a courtroom full of chiseling lawyers, They laughed, just like the Judge. Cheapskate would not contribute a nickel. Went to court and got child support. I was always respectful and smiling when I accepted her monthly check.
