How Many I-bonds?

The Crime in Wrigleyville and Boystown blog is still the only place to get consistent stories about how broken the Cook County system is:
  • Hard to believe it’s almost Labor Day. It’s been a busy year. Particularly so for 20-year-old Austin Corrado of Rogers Park.

So far this year, he’s been charged with felony burglary, released on a recognizance bond, charged with criminal damage to property and assault, released on another recognizance bond, charged with battery, released on a third recognizance bond, charged with battery and obstruction of identification, released on a fourth recognizance bond, and pleaded guilty to battery in exchange for a sentence of six months court supervision. And that was all before the Fourth of July.

He’s currently in jail, accused of robbing a 12-year-old and burglarizing a home. Both of those crimes allegedly occurred while he was free on multiple recognizance bonds—including one for felony residential burglary—according to court records.
Hop over the the link up top and check out the mug shots. When we worked the desk, there was a charge - Violation of Bail Bond - that required an appearance before a judge...no ifs ands or buts. You saw a judge, period. And Evans, abetted by Prickwrinkle and Crimesha, is allowing judges to free repeat criminals on I-Bonds.

But remember, the police are the problem.

I recognize that I work in the near west suburbs but my old sergeant used to say you cant be out on on two i bonds and would make us take either 10% or send them to bond court on misdemeanors. I don't know if it's best to send any misd. to bond court or just give them i bonds... The courts don't care so maybe we should force every i bond on them so that when these recidivists are committing crimes, the i bond was issued by a cook county judge and not by a police officer or dept...

you're right SCC, but the desk officers and DSS have to know that charge exists and actually write the complaint out, after carefully looking at his rap sheet. I used to do it all the time, but my guess is a lot of officers don't know/care, because they know it doesn't matter when they get in front of a judge. Ever call for a parole violation? If he hasn't just about killed baby momma, the answer is always 'no warrant to issue'--- "Thanks, can I get the tracer # please?"

I saw this quote in a story on Fox News website regarding California’s crime and homeless problems:

“...President Ronald Reagan was right when he said: “We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.”

Something that has been completely forgotten these days.

Well do you remember when everyone could just sign their traffic ticket and thousands NEVER showed for court? Well they liked that so much they just I-bond everyone now. I say we save more money and just let the arresting officer(s) I-bond everyone and we can get rid of HALF (1/2) THE JUDGES!

Mayor Lori Lightfoot wants to cut the police budget.

Maybe she just wants to cut out the middleman in all this catch and release BS. If the police stop catching them, then the judges can stop releasing them!

And everyone will live happily together! / sarc

The judges are just giving these poor innocent racially oppressed yutes more chances to turn their lives around!

You do want the poor innocent racially victimized youths to turn their lives around, don't you?

Or are you just a big old racist hater that wants all of them in jail???

Prison won't help. These poor innocent "justice involved individuals" should be out in society learning how to behave from the victims of their crimes.

There are no bad boys, they just need another chance. Or six.

The chief judge is on record as saying that people who cannot afford bond should be let out. What about all the victims. The offenders are now more important than the victims.

All law abiding citizens within city limits should be issued a firearm, receive basic training and marksmanship using it and told to fend for themselves as clearly the government has given up all responsibility in the matter.

Civilian here.

A friend offered this scenario: Preckwinkle's soda tax went pfftt so she needed to reduce her spending. Easiest place to do that would be to reduce the number of inmates in the CCJ., saving millions. Ergo, she goes to all the "stakeholders" here and tells them either reduce or I'm going to reduce your budget. Also, fewer convictions, less need for probation officers, TASC programs, etc. Finally, it's a way to give a middle fingered salute to all those folks who dare to bitch and whine about her. Sounds plausible to me (remember, it's always about the money)

Cook County is the biggest joke in the country. I hate to say it but many of their deputies are as bad as the politicians. Have you ever dealt with their intake guys at the jail or courthouses? Talk about a group of lazy, entitled, useless sacks of shit! Not all but many will do anything they can to reject an intake.

He just clownin’ in between getting his life back together.
Everyone should get 30 chances.

Talk about budgets, spending and cuts here at the Crook County system.
Judges get paid very well to have a repeat armed violent offender defendant come before the bench for all of 3-5 minutes.
Think of all the paper shuffling the bloated administrative staff, asa staff knuckleheads, the CCDOC and the even the janitors have to do for that judges 3-5 minutes. Regular folk have hours of processing, sometimes lasting a full eight a day and 5 days a week.
Are that many repeat armed violent offender defendants passing through the system that judges need to spend a whopping 3 minutes to get through the masses?
What was the point of having six figure salaried, 80% pensioned judges again (besides keeping Teabag Evans in charge)?

Mmmmm-mmm-mmm.
Soon as they restore all that lost justice, expect the gavels to come out swinging again.

I'm a DSS and I make damn sure that VOBB is charged every time it is appropriate and that arrestee is sent to CBC. That likely has little effect on CBC judge's decision, however. If they are going to I-bond them on the most serious charges, then they just I-bond them for the VOBB, too. We see them right back in the neighborhood by dinner time.

@3:42am spot on. I’ve been saying it for years. The thing that’s always lost on these progressives, these restorative justice people, is the victims. They’re all so concerned about the offenders, and making sure they’re happy, that no one other than the police think about the victims. Several years ago I remember we got a guy in a stolen car. We call the owner, (nice lady, domestic related nonsense with dude) and long story short he took her keys while she slept, stole a bunch of her property, drove off with her car and property. We get a call from her after the first court date that she was at (amazing! She was actually going through with everything) where she was pissed because dude had been I bonded out weeks earlier and didn’t show up to this court date. I remember she was in shock as to why he was just released out of jail immediately after arrest. And I had no explanation for her, I just told her in cook county (she was from Indiana) the judges I-bond everyone out no matter the charge.

Hello asshat,
I will give you the real deal and you have someone explain it to you.
The guy in charge is named Tom Dart, the citizen voters made him the boss.
Tom walked in and put in place every social justice policy he could think of, the Officer is always wrong if the pooch complains.
The Officers don't like it but know their ass will go up a flagpole if they are deemed in violation of policy.
What dept. are you with where you do what you want cowboy?
The Sheriffs' office is and has been 02 steps ahead of CPD in the social justice, you're fired for doing the job,no such thing as a bad offender world that CPD is experiencing.
Dart looks for ways to Fuck Officers while serving pizza to the animal.
One mandatory intake question is,are you injured,do you need a Doctor? If the dog answers yes it's a refusal or it's the intake Officers ass!Just one of hundreds of rules pertaining to do everything possible to refuse a prisoner..or else!

PS. We could also discuss years of accepting damaged goods or incomplete paper etc. pursuant to professional courtesy and the County Officer catching days for it but we have non sworn guests.I have a feeling you're one of the dogs that walk in with missing paper and cracked eggs and want to dump your shit in somebody's lap..GFY !

The problem was people in jail being supported by the taxpayers because they could not afford to post bond. Now, its the opposite as if they are too stupid to realize when people should be held in jail and when their bail should be low enough to go home.

You nitwits go out of your way to find excuses. Ask 5 different intake guys what is expected and you'll get 5 different answers. I've seen deputies turn away people they felt looked ill even if the arrestee didn't say anything. Most people who get arrested have some medical issue. We aren't talking about the creme of the crop here. To be fair most of that required paperwork is required by bullshit Cook Co policy and should therefore be completed by Cook Co. employees. The intake guys have a few simple jobs and they push work onto other people. Easier to I bond everyone and eliminate the hassle. By the way, having arrestees dumped in your lap is entire point of your existence. For the record the intake guys at the actual jail are great. Never an issue. It's the goofs at the courthouses who will argue for half an hour to avoid 5 minutes of work.
