Labor Day Plan

  • Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Tuesday she’ll once again “flood the zone” over Labor Day weekend, upping police presence in the city to try to reduce gun violence.

Lightfoot and Chicago Police Department Supt. Eddie Johnson discussed their crime-fighting tactics at City Hall after the mayor’s weekly meeting with CPD brass.

“These holidays don’t sneak up on us every year,” Johnson said, explaining the rationale behind the increased presence. “What we do is we look at the successes we made from Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. So we’ll be putting, you know, upwards of 1,000 additional officers out there again in a lot of our challenging areas.”

That will include Cook County Sheriff’s officers, federal partners and Illinois State police, making for a “heavier uniformed presence,” Johnson said during the regular “Accountability Tuesday” press conference to discuss crime statistics from the previous weekend.
No word yet on where Groot will be spending the holiday. We don't think she has spent a single weekend in the city during her first 100 days.

The Slum Times does the FOP a huge favor before Thursday's "state of the city" address:
  • Before discussing the coming weekend, Lightfoot shared bright spots from summer crime stats:

Murders are down 15 percent from last year — the lowest number the city has seen since 2015.

Shootings are also down 12 percent since last year — the lowest number the city has seen since 2014.

The number of shooting victims is 10 percent lower than last year — also the lowest since 2014.

And, Lightfoot said, in the last two months, the city has seen “an acceleration of these declines.” Whether or not that’s because of the policing, or the cooler weather or “dumb luck,” Lightfoot said she and the police department have been “very intentional” about the work they’ve been doing.
We aren't sure, but all of those declines certainly seem to rhyme with the words "16% and a retro check." Hopefully, the FOP is hearing the same tune we are.

Here's an idea. How about now treating a day on the calendar like a five alarm fire?

Maybe Labor Day Weekend should be a time for the community to step up and show the city that it is peaceful and they don't need a police occupation? They keep claiming police are the problem. Demand the Revrunds and their peace loving protesters step up for 72 hours and keep the peace in their neighborhoods. Tell them that the police will stay out. The police will only enter if Chicago Fire or Ambulance services need escort. Everything else can be handled by the community until 6 am on Tuesday.

Well then Special Ed, why has our chief “not yet finalized our schedule” for this weekend yet regarding cancelled days off, shift start time adjustments, etc?
We were told to expect things to be finalized and sent out on Thursday- regarding the schedule Friday through Monday. What the fuck.

If “they don’t sneak up on us,” then why don’t we know our schedules/cancelled days off until the day before? Maybe a little planning is in order you brain trusts.

This city is so fucked, and there should be something put into the contract about timely notice for cancelling days off or pay a premium.
Family plans, child care issues, life stuff.....You know, that stress that leads to those “mental health awareness” videos you make?

You can put an additional 50,000 police officers out there and “flood the zone” but you will get the same results in the number of people shot and/or killed UNLESS the edict is given by this Mayor, this State’s Attorney, these Judges and in fact all these elected officials, that they will fully support all law enforcement officers in the performance of their duties. The edict is very simple on what to do with these criminal terrorists. That those officials will proclaim to the public that they will enforce every law that is on the books, direct the police to arrest such lawbreakers and prosecute all cases to their logical conclusions with no supervision, probation, plea bargaining or restorative justice. All of these elected officials by their past performance have proved that what they have been doing has failed. If they were your investment advisors you would have fired them a long time ago! If they were your doctors and you were not getting better you would have fired them a long time ago! Madam Mayor stop shoveling the bullshit on everyone and do something. Yes it will cost more money to bring people to trial but it is costing the taxpayers a lot more to keep this insanity going.

OFF TOPIC - O/T. Help for a retired guy.
Few years back FOP sponsored Aetna for us Medicare people. We had an option to go with the plan FOP suggested or go to the Blue/Cross/ Blue shield.

When we took Aetna'/top- PPO policy all was good with zero issues. No $$ out off pocket other then for scrip co/ payment. This last year they, Aetna is requiring pre authorizations for any out-patient medical service. Very taxing and it really appears they are playing and games having the MD" fight to get a test. They have been paying all charges after taking forever to approve. Aetna rep' told us the plan covers 100 percent of all coverages and charges, with no out of pocket expenses.

Recently,Ended in hospital for 5 days on a critical emergency illness. Aetna is requiring follow up tests to be approved. Receiving invoices from providers and hospitals during my stay. They are showing I owe approx. $4,500 on a $110,00 billing.

Is BC/BS any better. Kindly advise if you retired people have some answers

Read the Kass piece today about gang violence. There is a very simple solution to this. Have Feds declare All gangs terrorist organizations and make it Federal c4ime to be a member with stiff sentences for any and all gang crimes. Guarantee it will bring this BS to a screaming halt after they see there is real jail time for their actions. Also impl3ment the three strikes policy and your locked up for the next25 years no parole or time off for anything. Have any and all sentences be consecutive so three 5 year convictions means 15 years not 5 years. Spoke with a citizen of Singapore the other day after he had spent a few days in Chicago. He was shocked at level of crime he read about. In Singapore drug peddlers are hung. Drug users are offered a one time rehab. If caught again they too are hung. Very little drug activity in Singapore. Public caning dor less serious crimes. Canes are built to leave permanent welts on the body as a reminder. Maybe instead of the LA y ( city of fruits and nuts) the CPD should be getting good advice from Singapore police, sounds like they are doing it right. Finally gun in commission of a crime your hung with very quickly.

Shootings are mostly done by bangers in their late teens to early 20's, and are cyclical because the shooters kill one another off busily for a few years. Then, because there are fewer potential shooters, shootings decline for awhile until a new crop of killers matures. Policing has little to do with it.

To the retiree with medical questions.....
I can’t speak with knowledge about retiree health care changes, but that sounds about right.
I myself have experienced the same issues with a medical situation I’d had, with a doctor recommending a specific treatment/therapy- the 3rd party tasked with approving it decided I didn’t need that length if treatment, and only approved half of the length that my doctor prescribed.

I am not the only one, as I have heard horror stories from other officers with both on-duty IOD injuries and other officers with medical incidents having medical advice rejected by a 3rd party (Telligen I believe? May be called something else that starts with a “C” now?), which in some cases has even led to a second surgery after the 1st one didn’t heal correctly- because the city didn’t approve proper procedures/trickery protocol in the first place.

The effort to pinch a few pennies along the way will be negated by the lawsuits that will follow for knowingly going against medical advice and causing officers irreparable harm.
But in short, the benefits we used to have are long gone, and the city tries to bend us over at every opportunity. So it’s not surprising the headaches active POs are facing have trickled up to the retirees.

Regardless, be well, stay healthy, and enjoy your retirement.

The mayor should announce that all citizens are required to take orders from the police. When the police order a suspect to stop, drop their weapon and put their hands up, the suspect is required to comply with police orders. If there is an arrest, they get Mirandized, they get a free lawyer if they can't afford one, their rights are totally protected. The mayor should say never run away from the police, stop and obey orders until the police tell you you're free to leave. This would have saved so many lives. Of course never will she ever say this.

I love it. Throwing more cops at this problem is like scooping water more quickly out of a sinking boat. Nothing about it addresses the actual problems: Criminals going through the revolving justice door and back out on the streets, and more importantly, kids being left to fend for themselves rather than being taught morals and values by their parents. Ever notice on Hey Jackass the numbers of <18 YOs that are shot at 3:35 am? Usually it's a bunch, and these are just the ones that happen to get shot. If Groot really wants to fix this problem, it's time to address the underlying issue: proper parenting. I know, SO old-fashioned...

Or if you’re a DET, can we we give you a pay cut based on the low clearance rate? Yeah, we get it. There are some asshole teachers who toil in Venezuela and scream really loud about police. But, you are playing right into Groot’s hands. Just like Rahm’s hands before you.

Divide and conquer. And since there are 25000 plus members of the CTU, and only 12000 sworn police, we get the shaft. Why? HecUse we can’t even stick together. Use your head, assmunch. Unless, you don’t have one. My bet is on the latter.

Go MAGA somewhere else, dummy.

They are moving project people from Chicago to Dubuque a lot residents very upset. Increase in crime and drugs the dealers from Rockford bring poison to our community.

8/28/2019 08:26:00 PM

I remember back in 1991 when the brain trust running Dubuque was actually trying to recruit blacks to the city. Dubuque was the first city in Iowa to actively promote racial and cultural diversity. Or as I would put it, push it down people's throats. Oh those damn elitist liberals forcing their agenda on others. But who elected them? And things have just gotten worse, the inmates running the asylum.

Groot,

We already suspected it, but your written notification is the proper way to inform all of your subordinates. We will be here flooding the zone as you directed so don't worry about a thing while you are elsewhere. You being here would not help in the least.

Your dismayed subjects.

with all the money the city is spending aint shit down. the mayor and the command staff of the police department don't have a clue. its all bullshit and the press isn't calling the city out. a journalist like Mike Royko is needed to print the truth instead of the party line.

Before I turned 65 and the city dropped me and my wife’s insurance, I looked around for coverage. I went to an insurance broker and was given a written comparison of policies from the insurance companies that operate in Illinois.
The best policy was a BC/BS Medicare supplement policy. It had the same coverage as the fop sponsored Aetna plan except it cost less. The BC/BS supplemental policy that I have covers everything that Medicare covers, no deductible and I have not had any problems for all of my heavy use.
I contacted Aetna and they said that they couldn’t match the BC/BS price.
I contacted fop and asked why there was a difference in prices for the same coverage and was told to not worry about the extra costs, you can deduct them from your taxes? Well that deduction doesn’t work for me and I’m happy not paying more than I have to. It pays to shop, you can compare without changing your policies.

No, I’m not a troll and it’s not bullshit.

Call your alderman and demand that your good neighborhood has all the cars up that it deserves, tell your neighbors also, we pay for this service and deserve it. Let the community police their own neighborhoods.

Teachers salaries in Chicago should be cut, based upon the Students test performance results. Taxpayers again being raped by our Socialist Politicians and their puppets, the Teachers Union. All raises should be based upon positive results, same goes for the police.

Dumb idea. Have been scandals in other states where teachers have changed tests answers just to make scores higher and increase their pay. One principal had a grade changing party at his house for the teachers to change the test score.

Not defending FOP but we get the $3,000 write off not sure if it is like a credit or deduction , but even as a deduction in my tax bracket with both federal and state taxes I save 40% of the $3,000
