Cities Shrinking
Another of those articles we occasionally run across that deserve far larger exposure than we can possibly give it. Be sure to spread the info among your circle of friends:
- Over at The Atlantic, Derek Thompson mulls over whether we're seeing a "great metropolitan exodus" because America's top cities have recently begun losing population. Chicago has been losing people for years now, but Los Angeles and New York City have also found themselves on the decline. Both cities had been seeing domestic outmigration (people moving out of the city to other parts of the country) for several years, but foreign immigration into the two cities have long made up for it.
But new census data show that Los Angeles County is seeing a net loss of about 13,000 folks, and New York's Bronx, Kings, and Queens counties (all containing parts of New York City) have seen a combined net loss of about 40,000 people, based on census data released back in April.
Thompson hits some of the big issues affecting these cities (housing problems in Los Angeles, crime and racism in Chicago), but he does so in a vague "maybe this is a contributor?" fashion. It's partly understandable; because the trend is new (except in Chicago) the full nature of this population drain isn't entirely clear, and it's too soon to give firm answers without falling into confirmation biases, even if they do have statistical support.
Still, each of these cities is facing some severe problems in the way they're managed, their uncertain financial situations, and a general disregard for the welfare and liberty of the citizens who live there.

And the most worrisome facror in the outward migration is that the people that are moving out are the productive people. And they are taking their money with them.
These big cities are allowing these predators to run wild, families are smaller and the taxes in these large cities are a disgrace. Plus, why would anyone want to live where foreign born illegal immigrants are granted special privileges over native born people and the politicians are pandering at a breakneck pace to give the store away with even more freebies. I'm still deciding where I'm going to land because I never even considered moving except maybe to McHenry County but mow, another state looks like it may be the final destination. Damn shame, my relatives have lived in southern Wisconsin and Illinois for years and the young ones have almost all moved away and now the oldsters are talking about it. Keep it up fools, you can chase out nearly every working person in the state if you just try.

Racism in Chicago!!? Chicago is inundated with shootings and murders. Last I’ve seen there’s been no white on black or brown or yellow or green or purple crime reported or unfair housing/rental. Just black on black crime, brown on brown crime and the occasional white victim.
Only racism in Chicago is manufactured by the minority race hustlers. Can’t remember a report on local stations of white people committing racist acts. Oh and please don’t mention the game played at the ball park that requires one person to hit another cuz of the way the hand/fingers are held, that wasn’t racist as much as it was horsing around. Did the same in HS.

They are leaving before things get worse.

My family came to Illinois before the Civil War. Seven generations are buried there. A (very) few live there still.
The Illinois I grew up in in the 60s and 70s was a great place. The Illinois I worked in in the 80s and 90s wasn’t too bad.
When I got out in 2004, I had that “Oh, crap” feeling you get when the roller coaster reaches the top of that first hill.
My only regret? I didn’t move 10 years earlier.
Duh!
But they are rapidly being replaced by illegals. What could go wrong.
Hopefully those leaving know that their past Democratic voting patterns are the cause of ALL the problems.
just remember wherever you might move to there are no GOOD Democrats. Start voting Republican or stay where you are we don't need you to spread the Dumbocrat disease.

Bullshit. Chicago is packed with illegal aliens. You can’t drive around in the city anymore, it is rush hour traffic most of the day, traffic was never this bad back in the 60’s 70’s 80’s when we had over 3 million people living in Chicago.

But I’m a rat because I voted with my feet and moved away. OK. You stay and fix the problems which cause productive people to move away. You must have a wonderful plan.

And where do these outward bound big city residents move to? They move to Republican states (Florida, Texas, Tennessee) and then elect the same crooked and criminal Democrats to represent them thus destroying their new cities and states. It is like a cancer spreading though out our nation.
The sad thing is that the people that flee take their "domocratic party" values with them and contaminate the states they move into like Texas and Arizona.

I retired in 1997 and immediately moved to Wisconsin's north woods. I didn't care about paying state income tax on my pension. The trade off was well worth it.
The Atlantic Magazine was my favorite political/cultural magazine in the early 1990s. That was back in the day when it was a once a month, hard copy magazine, though having an Internet presence that allowed and encourage very intelligent, open and free comments.

The Atlantic Magazine covered very taboo subjects like mass 3rd world immigration, the Rodney King Black riots in LA, radical Islam, political correctness cultural marxism on American college campuses, even presented in small way Historical Revisionism regarding some parts of World War II history.
But, that was then.
Now the Atlantic Magazine is overwhelmingly PC Lib Leftist with Neo Conservatives/Neo Liberal Zionists going over and purging the Atlantic of any writers or commentators who just "notice" things like AIPAC, Harvey Weinstein Hollywood mafias, or just anybody that supported/supports President Trump.
It's very Orwellian.
A key sign of powers that be taking over a once great and open American media, American cultural institution is the ending of all comments. The Atlantic Magazine just publishes their blogs like the New York Times - it's THE TRUTH and there are no alternative comments allowed.

A few financial guys in NYC have been tweeting for a year or more about how a ton of moneyed folks are relocating out of NYC. Partly due to De Blasio, partly due to the SALT tax implications from the recent tax changes.

And yet plenty of urban planners continue to create their artists' concepts of "cities of the future" where you live within walking distance of your job and food, complete with spotless and litter-free walkways, clean air, manicured green spaces, few, if any, cars, and people strolling about without a care in the world. Because urban living is so much more sophisticated, pleasant, productive and efficient compared to the conditions suffered by all those "rustics" in rural communities, you know?
Apparently they receive big bucks for promoting this vision of urban utopia while studiously avoiding the reality of homeless, filth, garbage, drugs, crime, corruption, nepotism, cronyism, gangs, and the rest of the big city benefits brought to you courtesy of the Dems.

So if you total the dollar amount of industrial 6b real estate tax breaks Mr Burke and Mr Madigan obtained through their law practice while holding office do you think it would total over 800 million per year of tax dollars lost to support the city budget????????
Any financial experts want to check those numbers and see how well it compares to city budget deficits?????

New York is supposed to be the most desired city to live in. However, I would also say the high cost of living there has finally gotten too high and is not worth it. As for Chicago, it is crime and racism by blacks, whites, Latinos and other ethnic groups who live here. The criminals are sometimes engaged by corrupt cops too. The police department hates to admit there are corrupt cops which is surprising as there are always going to be a few bad apples wherever you go and it is not a reflection of the fine men and women who risk their lives and do an awesome job keeping the city safe. The goal of all citizens should be to help law enforcement keep the city safe too. When this is practiced more, we will be safe and the population should increase not decrease.
That is why our pension will be gone in 10 years.
Shrinking? There are probably more than 250, 000 illegals in Chicago ... and that’s a conservative guess. A giant subculture in the city and suburbs.

LA; San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and New York are already smelly shit holes due to illegals and homeless..
If you choose to exit you current residency, just respect those that you choose to move to. Don’t try to change them to what you ran away from..

i have a second home in wisc a couple hours away. the peace and quiet, clean air and streets alone are worth the low price of admission. ive been in shitcaga my entire long life and all the world class crap they talk about i never use any more. too crowded, too expensive, and now too dangerous and way too much time spent shoulder to shoulder with the united nations. go out and enjoy small towm murika while it still exists.
