Ask and Ye Shall Receive

In the comments earlier yesterday:
  • Anonymous said... Shit...watch bids are due tomorrow, and these jackasses refuse to tell us what the start times will be. That's beyond incompetence, that's intentional.
And late Wednesday, the previously released draft has become the new policy (click for larger versions):

The FOP promptly filed an unfair labor practice.

I don’t understand how we work an 8.5 hour shift with .5 unpaid for lunch, yet, are on the books for 9 hours? I’m not a genius but that math doesn’t add up. Why aren’t we getting that extra .5 in OT every night?

Of course 1st watch is fucked. By this idotic logic you're essentially leaving late midnight cars, sometimes only 2 or 3 potentially by themselves while strategy is discussed? How about in the heat of summer, when savages don't sleep. Yeah let's potentially burnout every 1st car with late jobs because strategy is being talked about from the wasted money room. Just when you think this place can't get any more retarded. Remember kiddies this department cares about your well being, it's ok not to be okay. Something tells me during the summer time I'll be feeling I'll and not okay

10 years retired asks:
Each beat has a vehicle assigned it across all three watches.
That's the way it suppose to be since 1971 when I started.
Don't like the assigned vehicle, get it fixed & take a pool car.
Don't want a pool car, deal with the assigned vehicle.

I don't understand why the dept needs to change the primary cars start times.
7-330, 8-430, etc, etc also worked since 1971.
What magic management improvements will this generate? Why are they doing this?

I see a problem with 2nd &1st watches attending court with this change.
2nd watch will go down for court immediately after roll call or get tied up something and have to be excused.
First watch POs could be exhausted and just say fuck it and take the deviation.
(Those who wrote this order never attended court, obviously.)

It seems to me that the dept is just fucking with patrol because they can.

lol the same car assigned ---they dont have enough vehicles as it is and the maintenance sucks even if they got those vehicles within 6 months vehicles will be swapped. and imagine the 2 year wonders who are driving a hunk of shit (prolly assigned as a rapid car with 75k miles on it) the whining will never stop.

What about specialized units and the D unit? will they stop renting the nissans and give them actual cars with lights and sirens? Hypothetically if i were hurrying to pick up the kids after school and a nissan began honking their horn while holding a metallic object out the window, i know i'd never stop.

SIMPLETON

whoever came up with this idea has a tiny bit of college but NO management skills.

With driving skills lacking and cars not fixed quickly where are these extra cars at?

your telling me the City is paying 1 hour every day every shift to sit in a roll call
how much waste is that? Did ferguson approve this waste? Did the same asshat who wanted district closed come up with this?

HOW about issue beat tags to each person on a car. If they lose it they pay for it.
If they dont have it on top of the cars verbal warninig first time and suspension 2nd time.

Could you imagine if you hired a painter and he told you he has to talk about what he is painting for 1 hour?EACH work day
Lots of money wasted on the CAMERA rooms yet you still have to direct them to actually do work! How about burning those video minutes after it happens? How about getting those video to the DICKs within an hour?
MY kid can stream across the planet in minutes showing his Fortnite skill why does it take weeks to alert the city about pervert and smash and grab shoplifters?

HERES a free one
everybody has that SHITTY phone have each district create a members only site so they can post every alert and news they wish every person that WORKS need to know!
I know to complicated...

These are the exact same start times we used for decades. Personally, I don't have a problem with the change, as it eliminates both the car and personnel overlap problems inherent in the current schedule. But that's just my opinion. I'm sure others will despise the changes.

Long story short... under "management rights" the Department has the absolute right to dictate shift start times. This is a loser for FOP all day long.

Definitely can agree with the car situation because so many coppers use other cars and you’re complete Assholes, drumsticks under the seat cigarette burns, and whoever keeps Cutting the steering wheels Really should Be terminated and made to pay for it. Then the other group of coppers who think they are race car drivers racing over everything breaking the car is smashing the cars and then there first ones to bitch when the heat don’t work or when the air conditioning is not functioning. Look how filthy most of the cars are copper they are so lazy they can’t even take them to get them washed and the second watch.

As far as the hours the city is allowed to do that you took this job you understand how the job works you miss holidays your shift schedule changed we’re paid very well that’s how it works stop the millennial crybaby bullshit OK guys. We have so many copperson the job that are spoiled never had a real job on in their life. You went to college you partied got drunk for four years got a degree that means nothing you’re on this job mom and dad went into debt to pay your college loans and now you’re here so now you’re going to cry grow up.

The Merit has left the brains trusts alone and this is what happens.
They shouldn’t have dumped all those boxes of Operations orders from the ‘70’s when they moved out of 1121 S. State.
I remember Leroy Martin coming back from LAPD info tour with a master restructuring plan that never panned out.
Now they’re trying to rework a butchered 1999 CAPS II system originally derived from the ‘93 Rodriguez Together We Can era...that again, won’t cut it.
Makes you wonder how the Post Office can manage operations Mon -Sat, doesn't it.

Besides, our parking lots can’t handle more idled vehicles and radio rooms don’t have enough extension cords for battery chargers.
Just go back to Watch rotation, strat cars and civilianize the Admin spots...everything old is new again.

Oh no, I don’t do 45 minutes of roll call.
I sure hope there’s still time to Bid for a House Mouse position.
The random hours seem to mostly fit my schedule except on Tuesdays and Fridays before 3 day holiday weekends.

You are either new on the job or just clueless as to how things work. FOP doesn’t make management decisions for the city. There’s no judge or referee on call that the can rule on issues like this. There’s a process to fight it. The city does what they want and FOP fights it. Changing the period change day is not something FOP has control over. It’s not unreasonable to make the change. If you were paying attention President Kevin Graham did get the city to hold off on the hour change and is fighting it now. Kevin Graham has been more vocal than anyone else, being on TV and in print media in our behalf.

You know some will look at that as a challenge.

This has Lemmers prints all over it. What should be done is just go to 12 hr shifts. Start times would be 0600-1800, 0700-1900, 0800-2000 hrs. for Days and nights would be 1800-0600 hrs, 1900-0700 hrs, 2000-0800 hrs. That’s it...... Desk crews would be 0700-1900 hrs and 1900-0700 hrs....

Take your 12 hr day and shove it up your ass. I don’t care if you’re off a few more days a year. I don’t want to be here for the 8.5 (now 9) we’re here for right now. 6-6, 7-7? Are you kidding? Get done at 6, home around 6:30-6:45, and in bed in a couple of hours because you have to get up by 5am? Fuck that shit. The alternative, 6p-6a? Get home by 7, try to sleep during the day, only to get up and do it over again? No. Fuck that. Talk about missing shit at home with the family.

I don’t understand how we work an 8.5 hour shift with .5 unpaid for lunch, yet, are on the books for 9 hours? I’m not a genius but that math doesn’t add up. Why aren’t we getting that extra .5 in OT every night?

If you have under 10 years get out now! You have departments taking laterals. You do not owe this city anything. Try to find somewhere that values you. You will never mean anything to this department or this city, other than a number or number producer. There is life outside CPD.

It doesn't matter what you do or how many officers you have..... if morale is low and the officers feel
like the dept. doesn't have their back or that they feel that they will get thrown under the bus...
.... they have no motivation but to do the minimum....

Ahh, the wonderful 12 hour day. Sure the days you work are completely useless for the reason you stated but we get a 3 days off every other weekend. It is wonderful for time with the family. Add two comp days during that 3 day weekend and you now have a week off to spend with your family. Or do what Cook County sheriff police do, 10 hour days, where they get every other weekend be a 4 day weekend.

I miss way less then I ever did in Chicago. You burn less time on 12s. I have 9 days off coming off using only 2 days.

I would never ever go back to 8s or 9s

12 hour day schedule for lifting Residency requirement. Enough pussyfooting FOP.

If the City cries, offer to have officers agree to live here the first 10 years otj, then they can opt to move out.

Seriously, just throw Residency in front of the Arbitrator with this schedule change and the rest of the contract so he can compare to other departments and see what happens

Nothing will happen. Since the first CPD union was started the troops wanted residency. This isn’t a unique idea. Plus even if arbitrator gave us seniority, city council wouldn’t approve the contract. That’s what happens when you don’t have binding arbitration
