For an alleged lawyer, Groot sure seems to be lacking understanding what the words "slander" and "libel" mean:
- A day after accusing Uber of offering to pay off a group of black ministers to get them to oppose her proposed $40 million rideshare tax hike, Mayor Lori Lightfoot changed her tune somewhat, saying the rideshare giant offered tens of millions in “investments” as part of a “divide and conquer strategy.”
“My understanding, as I said yesterday, is that they offered up $54 million in, I’ll put in air quotes ‘investments,’” Lightfoot said Thursday morning. “They’re trying to divide and conquer, and pit one group against another. We’ve seen that happen historically in Chicago. We’re not going to tolerate that.”
A day earlier, Lightfoot left reporters at City Hall stunned when she accused Uber of offering black ministers a payoff to help get the mayor to back off her plan to increase the congestion tax the city charges to rideshare services.
Not as stunned as Chicago taxpayers would be if they had to foot the bill for a lawsuit. Anyone know if a company has ever successfully sued a politician for intentional falsehoods?

What confuses me is the idea of rideshare companies causing congestion. I was under the impression they reduce congestion. Ride sharing after all requires less vehicles than if everyone drove their own cars, and parked them in the heart of the city I thought that was the purpose of ride sharing companies. This lady is to "woke" to govern. Unfortunately, her rival lady-candidate was too corrupt and too powerful already to make a decent mayor too. Lightfoot will soon find herself alone in a sea of enemies, both "woke folks" and not (meaning the taxpayers actually stuck footing the bill for the enormous deficit and pension obligations). Groot is going to take that Ube $54 mil (for the community), reduce their ride tax burden (through negotiations with the shadow Machine) and everything is going to be hunkey-dunkey when the PAC’s begin next years annual disbursements.
No surprise, GrootFoot didn’t concede anything about the allegation but it sure made to look like a clueless fool again.
