Rules for Thee, Not for Me!

  • Illinois State Rep. Curtis Tarver II (D-25th) was arrested Monday during a traffic stop in Woodlawn and charged with having a handgun without a valid concealed carry license — though he says the arrest stems from a “clerical error” by police.

“The facts are clear and supported by documents which I have shared with the Chicago Police Department...” Tarver wrote in a statement published by Capitol Fax. “I fully expect this case will be resolved quickly and without incident.”

Officers pulled over Tarver for a broken headlight about 8:30 p.m. in the 6500 block of South Stony Island Avenue and learned he had a handgun with an expired concealed carry license, Chicago police said in a statement.

He was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of “failure to surrender a concealed carry license,” police said. He posted bond and is due in court Dec. 27. In his statement, Tarver said the arrest was the result of a “clerical error,” and that Chicago police records did not reflect the current status of his concealed carry license.
Blame the police for his failure to take the proper steps to renew and maintain a CCL. Why aren't we surprised?

Yep "Clerical error", meaning that ISP has been so starved of resources that they can't process the renewals in a timely manner and his license showed up as expired when it was merely "under review"?

This is great for all the little people, because now they'll have to get more resources to fix this clusterfuck that is delayed renewals of CCL and FOID

I like how “Chicago Police records” did not reflect the update. Yeah, our fault. What a douchebag.

He knows damn well his CC is invalid without a FOID and that they are separate renewals. Who is this guy think he is kidding? I thought the city is safe. Why does this Democrat need a gun?

No fan of politicians at all. But this one is lame.

If you have a valid CCL, which constitutionally you shouldn't need, and you renew your FOID, you have to reapply for your CCL.

So your FOID card is valid on that date but some hair splitting rule jams you up.

Just another example of the 'gotchas' that the anti-2A commies put up to hassle people. Add this to the difficulty people are having renewing their FOID cards.

Over 16 states have done away with gun ownership and carry permits entirely.

Aren’t CCL issued and maintained by the State Police like FOID cards are? And the CCL info is obtained through LEADS, which is also run by the State. So how is this a “clerical error” by CPD when CPD has jack and shit to do with the records for anything CCL?

Oh wait, this is just another case of someone else’s fault.

The convoluted law worked Mr. Tarver. 2 separate permission slips and 2 separate appeals . Screw up,your FOID and bye bye CCL. Maybe you can do something to fix the whole stupid mess.

Illinois makes it hard and expensive to get a CCL then even more to keep it. Not surprised that a member of the privileged class didn't comply. Hell whole communities don't bother with no consequences when caught so why should the rest of us. Look around Illinois other states with a lot fewer hoops to jump through don't have the murders you have and the ones they do have are not being committed by CCL license holders.

Someone in Chicago posting bond for a gun crime, this can not possible be true. I mean deep down I knew there was probably someone, but still.... to be alive during this Miraculous occasion is good fortune I do not deserve.....

The only clerical error involved here is a state representative too stupid to renew his conceal carry license, while the public receives ample notifications to renew.

Kimmie blames Trump (naturally) NRA and FOP
Tarver blames CPD.
Anyone see a pattern here? DO NOT take responsibility for your actions just blame someone else. It’s the democratic way. ♠️

The current status of a concealed carry license or an FOID card is on the website of the Illinois State Police and can easily be checked. Yes, I believe that clerical errors do happen, for this is Illinois, after all. They can do nothing right.

He signed off on SB1966 (Fix The Foid) which will require FOID and CCW holders obtain electronic fingerprints so that a certain clouted company can make millions off of a Constitutional right.
This asshat thinks we need more gun laws that apply to everyone else but him and his connected people. He should lose his liberal ass card for going against the narrative of the left.
And of course no personal responsibility, he blames CPD for a state run program. So confused, so stupid he definetely should be making laws for us. Such an idiot, he does not even know how FOID and CCW work.
Fuck this guy. Fix your headlight asshole.

Blame the police is always the first response to avoid accountability and lack of better judgment.
Maybe he should have used the “I didn’t take my new medication” excuse.
It’s a proven Get Out of a Hot Mess winner...(I hear but can’t confirm).

More importantly, how did he get ISP FOID Q&A Line to answer the phone?
Please share the number and the secret to expedited ID services.

But....
Broken
(I was going to take it to the shop this weekend to fix)
headlight?
Is that a Must Appear or Promise to Comply ?
I know, it’s big deal in most parts of Mayberry that’s still without fancy and expensive LED street lights.
Why bother with any traffic stops, this has all the potential to get a full frame-by-frame COPA booth review.

Funny though google me says its just a slight error! Would googles say the same if a copper of their family were caught?

Perfect example of the hipocrisy of stupid gun laws, and the stupid lawmakers who rally for them.

Now if this guy supported the Second Amendment, and if his defense was "I was breaking the law because I believe it's an illegitimate, unConstitutional law", then I would have sympathy for him. But no, he's a proponent of the laws he breaks, and now he's pissed that he's being held to the same standard as us peons.

The Chicago Police Department has nothing to do with keeping Conceal-Carry records or the updating of those records. You would think a State Representative would know that before running his mouth.Somebody from the City or Police Department want to step up and inform the media and Mr Tarver or do we just sit there and take this nonsense?

CCL was valid...FOID expired causing CCL to be revoked/cancelled (whatever terminology they're using) ...sent him the bad boy letter, he realizes FOID expired and addresses that issue.... doesn't return CCL as required in notification...

This guy got caught up in the trickbag bullshit set up by the state...

The "CPD records" claim is bullshit...

Of greater concern is his cocky and condescending reply to commentary under his explanation on his social media page...

Hopefully the community takes this guy to task over his anti 2A position and support of the "Fix the FOID" bill circulating in the legislature...

I am dating myself, but in the '80s, when coppers could still golf for free at Jackson Park, we used to go afterwards to this bar by 71st and Stony that was still owned by a white guy. He knew who to let in or not.

I also remember the black woman who had the concession stand at the tenth tee. Home made sweet potato pie, and if she knew you, can of beer for a buck.

Gotta go. We are having stewed carrots at the nursing home tonight.
