Good Lord, Slow Down

  • Five Chicago police officers were hurt Thursday when two CPD vehicles crashed into each other during a pursuit in East Garfield Park on the West Side.

The officers were pursuing a car wanted in a shooting when the two police vehicles collided about 10:30 a.m. at Jackson Boulevard and Francisco Avenue, according to Chicago police and fire officials.

Photos show an unmarked squad car crashed through a fence and into a tree on the lawn of the John Calhoun North Elementary School.

Police initially said two of the officers were seriously hurt, but later said all of their injuries were not life-threatening. They were taken to Stroger and Mt. Sinai hospitals, and only one of them needed to be moved with a stretcher.
We're told this vehicle was wanted for a series of high profile crimes across the city. We're also told at least one of the occupants has been released by Crimesha on multiple occasions at a low-to-no-bail status for more than a few violent crimes.

Best wishes to all the injured for quick recoveries.

I dunno. I feel sorry for these kids. I worked in 011 for a long time many years ago, working bullshit tact and gang teams, playin the dope game in the abandos and Rockwell with my hoody and binos. I just don’t ever remember this many POs involved in crashes in one district. From what I understand, it sounds like Lemmer drove out any copper with any experience. That was a damn shame. Now we have coppers with no experience trained by coppers that had no experience trained by coppers that had no experience...... Like the blind leadin the fuckin blind. One thing that always bothered me when going to calls was wondering if some goofy young cop would be blowing through a red light and crashing into me. I've seen too many idiots on this job that think their emergency lights somehow make traffic disappear from the intersections they're flying through. It doesn't work that way kids. More of us die in traffic crashes than by gunfire. Slow the fuck down!

The 5 injured were all in the tactical car. They were all piled in together because they were supposed to be going to that get behind the vest. Collectively they don't have any common sense. What the fuck are the supervisors telling these guys in 011? Instead of worrying about activity like blue cards and ISRs, supervisors should be more concerned about someone getting killed in a car wreck the way these goofs have been driving and getting into crashes constantly. Eventually the city is going to run out of cars thanks to the 011th district Rangers.

Prayers to the injured officers.
Most of the time, it’s not worth it.
And you can’t help anyone if you don’t get there in one piece.

A few weeks ago someone called out the driving of these young kids on zone 10 and got roasted for it.
It’s kind of a thing though, these young kids on zone 10 need to understand that chasing cars and driving fast and recklessly isn’t all fun and games, there’s real consequences with it. This isn’t a video game.

I keep praying that my brothers and sisters in blue will get the memo of what’s really going on out here, but it seems like constantly we have people forgetting what’s really important and treating this all like a game.
If you need thrills or adrenaline, get a hobby.

DON’T take unnecessary risks at work.

Have been retired a number of years after 30 on the street and I can remember how I felt out there just full of piss and vinegar, as the years rolled by seeing what can and does happen you change, you become more careful about ending up in the "trick Bag" (very old CPD term for screwing yourself up in any fashion) seeing that intent light in the eyes of the younger cops when the shit starts to get warm thinking slow down brother. No matter what you do or how you do it there is never a guarantee you won't be jack potted especially today, you can do the right thing for the right reason and still be hung out to dry and left twisting in the wind.

OT

What do you think the City and the Church want to do with the land of the closed schools? What percent of new residential construction has to be "affordable housing?" why does LL want to unlawfully take away aldetmanic zoning rights?

The task force — comprised of advocates, activists and developers — will focus on updating the city’s Affordable Requirements Ordinance (ARO), which was enacted in 2007 and updated in 2015. It’s a key tool that has provided working families a chance to live in posh neighborhoods.

The ARO requires residential developments that receive city financial assistance, or that involve city-owned land, to provide a percentage of units at affordable rents. However, the ordinance allows developers to opt out of building affordable housing by paying a fee. Half of the ARO fees paid by developers who choose not to build affordable housing on site go toward the city’s Low-Income Housing Trust Fund, which assists families in poverty. And developers have paid tens of millions of dollars into that fund.

“The ARO is, first and foremost, a tool to reverse a century of racial and economic segregation. So that’s our focus,” said Marisa Novara, housing commissioner.

Very well put, I spent nearly decade in 011, and never once called it Fillmore!! I don’t remember this many car chases, what does the department expect when they don’t want people stopped on the street they want blue cards and traffic stops. the Evans/Lemmer regime ruined that district. I want to say something like 40-50 coppers bid out during their regime. And that doesn’t mention supervisors, although nobody cried when tricky and dubs left. I would like to see a study of crime numbers before lemmer and crime numbers after lemmer.

The district is Very HIGH strung. Many P.O.’s are flying to calls all night. Many young cops. I can’t criticize them. Many of us old timers were like that when we got on. But society is not the same anymore.
I agree, it’s the supervisors responsibility to guide the young cops into making responsible decisions for their own good.

The Command and Supervisory structure in 11th Dist. have not and cannot perform routine supervision of their personnel in policing operations. The Command leadership mentally lives in the 1950's. From the District Commander down the Chain of Command many if not most Supervisors should be removed and broken up and transferred to other parts of the Department. Hopefully some Supervisors can be positively influenced and perform their duties more efficiently and effectively under the leadership of more competent supervisors.

As far as the Commander goes, well he's just an anchor around everyone's neck. A hack and merit failure. The Commander is another broken piece of Special Ed's tarnished legacy. When Ed finally leaves in shame, maybe Mr. CHiP's can dump the Commander of the Murder District known as 011. Save the good District personnel from Bosses who are stuck on stupid.

The lives and safety of the officers as well as the citizens are of paramount importance. There is too much ineptness, lack of leadership cronyism and just plain stupidity. They have no business commanding and supervising professional police officers.

Our brothers and sisters have apart to play in this sad and tragic set of circumstance in 011. You have a brain and common sense. Use it.

I'm retired now but all over the country coppers are getting killed in car crashes, in many parts of the country these are single vehicle crashes where the police car left the road. In rural areas these cops were driving at. High speeds and were young guys with no time on the job, married with kids. Point being, in Chicago these crashes are involving young coppers flying thru the streets and thru intersections against the red light without even hitting the brake and with siren blasting and when you do this you cant hear another siren. We all were young and stupid once but these private citizens in the ghetto dont drive right anyway and dont stop for stop signs etc.Is it worth getting killed or seriously injured permanently leaving behind a family with young kids. Bosses do your jobs and talk with these people at roll call and the department needs to realize that many young folks only started driving at age 16. Do the math, ever see how crazy and reckless they driveon the streets with thier own cars.I dont want to be critical be they need help. A Retired Sergeant

If you guys and gals want fast driving and pursuits, go to work for ISP or some other department that covers low populated areas.

Don’t get your panties all twisted up when your supervisor demands that you stop the pursuit. You know the rules and consequences, so there’s no excuse. Couldn't be more clear. They don't want you enforcing the law. Governments all over the country have subscribed to, "we'll get him later", including the most violent offenders.

First, that doesn't work. Bad guys don't hang around for long.

Second, "we'll get him later" just reinforces their worshiped big brother surveillance state.

Lastly, violent criminals should be treated as such. As distorted people who have proven they are capable of the worst humanity has to offer. Not a future college graduate who "made a mistake". Evil men will do evil acts until the day they are dead.

The head of the snake knows all this. They have made a choice to scapegoat police. Don't chase. Clear jobs, get paid and enjoy this short life.

Now Wearing 2 Sets of Seat Belts Says:

Speaking of car crashes, bad drivers, etc; Has anybody noticed that there are so many people driving around that just don't seem to be able to comprehend how to drive a motor vehicle? There are more hazardous drivers around Chicagoland than ever it seems. These people might very well be Illegal Aliens. They do the stupidest, hazardous things everywhere, and I have seen it now for quite some time on a daily basis. They do things like cut across 3 lanes of traffic and cut off numerous vehicles because they need to turn or get off a roadway and did not think ahead, so instead they just cut everyone off. Then there are those who just have to race up to a red light and just about slam on the brakes to stop, even though they saw the light was turning red 150 feet back. Are these people stoned, just stupid, playing with their cellphones, or what ? All these Municipalities are looking for revenue, so why not far more police officers making traffic stops for negligent drivers who are overwhelming us on our roadways and causing accidents, injuries, and deaths. ? Where are our Do Nothing Politicians ? Are they afraid they might lose some votes by standing up for safe drivers , and demanding our Law Enforcement Agencies, like the feeble Illinois State Police, actually do their jobs ? Peoples lives are being placed in danger, and they have an obligation to do the right thing, regardless of political concerns.

11/22/2019 12:51:00 AM

Lack of experience and common sense are catching up with the Department. This is further typical proof of it.

I was trained by an old timer Vietnam fuckin veteran FTO that worked his whole career in 011. Later there were old guys on the tact and gang teams. Believe you me, I learned a shit ton every damn shift. Things change. Like I said, I just feel sorry for these kids. They don’t even know how fucking stupid they are. I feel like it’s just a matter of time before some national media newsworthy incident comes outta the hard chargin 011th District. Ugh.

11/22/2019 12:25:00 AM

Nice post and 100% spot on. It's people in charge like dipshit Lemmer that should be blamed when shit goes wrong because of these busy, violent districts having all these young inexperienced coppers fucking up. Exempts don't care if it gets dangerous in 007, 011, 015, 010, because they just want two year wonders that they can brain wash into doing ISRs and other activity to generate numbers and make them look good at Compstat.

If you can handle yourself in a fight both physically and verbally, and don't believe in the bullshit numbers game, they don't want you in fast districts. Anybody with half a brain that can think for themselves wouldn't want to work in those shit holes in this day and age anyway when you have semi-retarded exempts calling the shots. 025 is another district that the commander caused people with experience to flee and 025 is slow compared to the other above mentioned districts.

Besides a few kool aid drinking suckers, most people join gang and tac just because they don't want to work midnights. Otherwise, what else is the incentive to work on those teams in the hood? No more early ducks and your summer schedule is constantly fucked with and in a state of flux. I guess some people just have a burning desire to wear blue jeans and a retro Count Chocula t-shirt to work.

^There better not be any cars or pedestrians in the intersection when I'm blue lighting. My partner said it's a waste of time clearing these intersections. Everyone sees the blue lights so they better stop. Plus, the offender might be gone by the time we arrive. Always been the real police and you blog readers are weak.

The operator of a Summit bar that’s come under scrutiny as part of a political corruption investigation in the southwest suburbs is an associate of a top political operative for Ald. Edward Burke and state Sen. Martin Sandoval, both facing their own problems with federal investigators.
Mariano “Mario” Martinez — who runs Mars Bar, 6030 S. Harlem Ave. — has personal and professional connections to Rudy Acosta Sr., a Burke precinct captain and Sandoval pal, according to records and interviews.
Martinez, 50, was charged earlier this year with possessing and distributing a kilo of heroin.
Court papers filed in March by his lawyer identify Acosta’s nephew as the “cooperating witness” who helped federal authorities ensnare Martinez.
Martinez’s name surfaced after federal agents visited Summit on Sept. 26 as part of the ongoing corruption probe and questioned Mayor Sergio Rodriguez on matters including whether political pressure was applied to get Mars Bar a late-hours liquor license

The Kiddie cops were flying around at 100 mph heading from foot chase to foot chase over dime bags and ended up with disorderly's, teen hood rats in the E.R., and they all had these little phone radio thingies for their top secret mission capers.

I couldn't imagine a neighborhood less worthy of getting hurt for then that one. I'm surprised they didn't get their guns and wallets stolen after.

At least to some degree you can tell how old people are by how they talk. Then we have people like this. "Boo got shot, the translated version". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ExaXF_CpiI

Young ones will chase no matter what people here say and how many vehicles are wrecked. But just think what would happen if the coppers kill innocent people as they hard charge. Law suit and perhaps riots to get some free stuff. I personally liked the chase in the 1990 movie Short Time better than Bullitt. I really don't know why people care at all anymore when you know that Crimea the criminals friend will just let them go, as somehow she is allowed to make her own rules. Shame on you for denigrating all of the police who served before you. You owe us all an apology. You might think you know it all, but trust me, you don't. Please stay safe out there. Go to police week in D.C. and you will have a huge awakening. All the best to you and your fellow officers out there.

We’re still on the job, junior. Another problem is the fucking academy. Like the above nugget, that the reason you now dance around an asshole and don’t immediately go hands on is because the police have a history of being over aggressive and racist. I bet you believe all the media coverage of the police, too. You sound like one of those fucking morons that completely bought into “Be the Change.”

And you’re missing the point. The high def cameras are gonna have high def video of some citizen’s limbs flying off at high def speed after being run over by your squad. Video which you will later watch on the high def tv as the news replays the high def video for years which you will again view at your civil and possibly criminal trials!
