Hey Look
- The Chicago Police Department announced Tuesday the number of detective areas in the city is expanding from three back to five in order to improve response times, particularly on the West Side.
Former Mayor Rahm Emanuel shuttered two of the original five.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot mentioned the plan in October, and a report from the Police Executive Research Forum recommended the expansion, saying it was challenging to effectively police large areas and respond in a timely manner.
01 April is the target date (not an April Fool's joke) and rumors of a class (or classes) of one-hundred-fifty detectives to back-fill the expected amount of movement have begun making the rounds.

Now open 024's lockup and we're cooking with gas
Can't wait for the Grand Opening of two new "Dick-Mart" stores in those communities described as 'detective deserts.' Be the change, together we can!
More dets. More det sgts. More det Lts. More phone calls made!
Are 150 dicks getting promoted all off the list come January ? That seems to be the rumor floating around. That will put the list up to about 650 or so I’d imagine.
Waste of time !
That’s a start, but what we really need are more sergeants in the D-unit that’s were never detectives. Especially merit sergeants!
More admin spots created.
Merit 025 Sgt TG is telling everyone Staples told him he's going to Area 5. This tool has less than a year as Sgt and Staples made him so he thinks he "earned it ". Useless
Bring back the crime lab and make more ET's!
So does this mean that each area is going to have an area deputy chief? Like the old days. That deputy will only be responsible for the districts in his/her new area?
Too late for me to be a Detective!
I’d rather retire and take my pension to a nicer city, with low taxes and better weather!
Chicago is a shithole!
Vote Trump in 2020!

Are they actually making a class, or just using existing Det? It sure sounded like Beck suggested the latter.
So the premise to have 5 detective areas again is to improve response times by detectives to crime scenes. This will do what exactly ????. Will it make the asa's office less likely to C/I cases or deny felony charges. Will it change the warped brain of kim foxx. Does anyone really think that police officers or detectives care about rounding these assholes up when all that's going to happen is that they let them walk right out the door. Open 10 areas and make a 1000 detectives and nothing will change.
I heard 50 dics in January maybe 100
Now open up the lock-ups in 012 and 024 and this would amount to REAL CHANGE. It’s about time!
Merit 025 Sgt TG is telling everyone Staples told him he's going to Area 5. This tool has less than a year as Sgt and Staples made him so he thinks he "earned it ". Useless
Yep sounds just like him... one of the best detectives out there, just ask him. Hey Beck ask him what he has done on this job to deserve merit? Oh and what ever happened to doing 2 yrs in patrol after making it merit. Get off your high horse TG your not that well liked.
who cares you need big wack to be promoted to det.
merit will never end

Use the detectives that are currently assigned to specialized units, then promote...
They are making Sgt’s in January from old list, class of 30
They need to open lockups in all districts, also have real squadrols, no more of these vans. And they need more than 150 detectives. Probably double that, and more e.t.s .
Merit 025 Sgt TG is telling everyone Staples told him he's going to Area 5. This tool has less than a year as Sgt and Staples made him so he thinks he "earned it ". Useless
I am not sure that being a detective before making sergeant, and returning to D-unit should be a requirement. After all, all detectives were p.o.'s and had to learn the job. It's about putting in the time and effort. Hard work beats out natural ability all the time. If detectives applied themselves, they would be more successful.
Kevin Duffin - never a detective.
Now, for that goof TG from 025..... sounds like a real smart guy...that's why he's talking about it.
Most, if not all merit hacks, never deserved it and feel they over earned the bump. How does the city undo what has been done.
Spencer Boyd Kimble Douglas Terado ? That is just a few who were double bumped.
Don't get me wrong. I agree that being a detective - I mean a working detective - is a huge plus for being a supervisor in D-unit.
But, there are some real dogs wearing the detective button. And if I had to put a percentage on quality v. quantity.....?
You figure it out.
First step in shutting down Homan square. Each area will get mini vice, narcotics, gang teams - just like LA
Re-Opening 2 Areas is a start. Case load and an uncooperative States Attorneys Officer is another.
Certainly going to save big travel and transport time getting video interrogation and witness statements.
But again, CCSAO will stall, dilly dally for hours and impatient witnesses will continue leave no matter where they wait.
What’s hiring been like to promote 150 (boo-hoo...no merit) by Feb/March IST to prepare them for assignments by April ?
We still have a 20% merit boss preferential personnel management problem that includes lackeys, lazys and not-so-brights.
Heres a thought, will they ever cutback the SVU, use them for general assignments or will they even be farmed out SVU to the Areas.
The absence of juvie justice makes most of SVU unnecessary as the JISC.
Desk Sgt DSS should be able to handle the juvenile processing...maybe CAPS?
Time to bring back the Dump. Not enough Dets know what the fuck they are doing, and can't solve cases. Lack of proper supervision covers for their incompetence. Better, smarter Dets; now.

Why? They get promoted and then go back inside
Part 1 results will be out before xmas, heard it here first
Does anyone on the CPD have an inkling of experience with standing up a whole new unit? Staffed , orders-infrastructure, support staff, equipment, etc. Who has ever done this before?
OT Question: Who would you rather work for: A) a merit Sgt who spent his career in busy districts but scored bad on the test, or B) a Sgt promoted off the list who spent his career in HQ?
Discuss
OFF TOPIC- PLEASE HELP WITH ADVICE-----
Retired 13 years on Medicare here. Got the FOP Medicare / Aetna health insurance. Any of you retired CPD know a dentist that I do not have to go in hook for to get a few crowns /caps for my fucked up teeth. Live in the Garfield Ridge Area, Clearing is also close.
FOP is offering dental insurance after 01 Jan 2020 for us retired guys with MET life. Will it be worth it or stay a cash-paying shmuck to these dentists.
The costs are unreal. Most dentists start at 1K a tooth for crown/cap.
My old dentist who was great and never charged me any cost retired.
I am not talking about those 3 K implants per tooth advertised on TV.
The implants are like laser eye surgery, the cost was 5 K when it came out and now it's 1K or less for both eyes.
Thanks to anyone who can help this old fuck.
I pity the OTJ people with spouse and kids. The prices the dentists charge now are over any reason.
let's see... what other old-is-new again "changes and innovations" will someone take credit for implementing by simply pulling mistakes out of a box and undoing the
'changes' that were supposed to improve operations?
JPD. (JOKE)Police Dept. Let's do away with the blue and switch to ruffled collars and big red shoes. Our guns can have a cork on the end and a little banner that says "BANG!."
Oh, wait, even THAT would upset the criminal drug dealing gang members whose tears make the academics so moist.
What’s old is “new” again.
When I came on 32 years ago there were 6 Areas.

Dumps were stopped for a reason. They were abused by the bosses(surprise). Sets were being dumped for personality conflicts with the boss, guys who were working difficult cases were getting dumped while inside sets , CMO sets stayed. When they tried doing it by arrests certain sets were say assigned school burglaries were a lot were solved by the principal info forwarded to the sets and their arrest count went up with 4 or 5 juice arrests

Damn, I thought you were dead already...
Gee, I think I left some Twinkies in my locker up in Area Four. I still got the key. I wonder if they’re edible? Is Kitty Kat Pizza still open over by Sacramento and the westbound exit ramp? That old school patrol sergeant still hang around the basement muttering to himself? Ahhh...the good old days.
OT Question: Who would you rather work for: A) a merit Sgt who spent his career in busy districts but scored bad on the test, or B) a Sgt promoted off the list who spent his career in HQ?
I’ll take the smart kid who knows the orders. I work in a busy district with a bunch of idiots who took the test. I’ll take the kid who knows the correct answer. No more merit. If your a dumb test taker then you’ll be a dumb boss.
most sgts. that were never detectives get spun by experienced detectives and really have no clue, it is kinda funny. Sgts that were detectives in name only are no better, and may be even worse as they promote the same dog ass work that they did with the "its all BS mentality"
signed a old veteran working det.
Attended the promotion ceremony at Navy Pier today. Beck got an idea what he has to work with when newly ordained Dept Chief Hanna actually repeated "I state your name" while being sworn in. LMFAO
A dick is just a guy who gets phone records and
looks up shit, right? The primary suspect in a murder
is someone close to the victim. It's seldom like the
Sharon Stone or Charlie Manson stuff, right? You
just listen to the old time radio dick shows and throw
in Google and cellphones. What has really changed?
Johnny Dollar was an insurance scam radio show.
Probably underwritten by the companies, just like they
say 'Dragnet' was pure LAPD propaganda. I predict
Danny Johnson is on the dick track. It's almost a lock.
TG 025. A true sorry ass who is drinking the Kool aid. Never had a bad spot, always complaining. His dad is friends with Staples that's how he got promoted
Merit 025 Sgt TG is telling everyone Staples told him he's going to Area 5. This tool has less than a year as Sgt and Staples made him so he thinks he "earned it ". Useless
Been a sergeant for five months........
You’d think people would be excited being given stripes without having to really take time away and study but then again some people have no shame.
What’s old is new again. When I came on the job 33 years ago there were 6 Areas.
Chicago is the city of the "phone call."
You would think Obama would have picked up on that
and called companies directly, just like Trump.
Of course, Barry never learned that at Harvard.
Barry, about those grades......
Anonymous wanted to vote more than once in Chicago, novel idea. No matter what u think you know about TG, he was a damn fine Detective and did a job that not many dared to pursue, and I don’t mean Sgt. If someone recommended him on a merit spot, why should he say no? We need strong people to gain leadership roles who attempt to do the right thing and pursue truth in the face of adversity. (God knows we have way too many political sheep supervising our ranks) TG did this in his prior job facing great personal risk, but knowing him, gaining rank from his efforts was not his motivation. So fu&@ off to the puke who has been railing on about this, I recommend that you do something more for others to improve our Department and our standing as Officers overall, rather than spew your impotent excuse for an opinion on these threads and try to throw shade on a solid guy.
Forensics should be revamped along with the D unit!!
OT Question: Who would you rather work for: A) a merit Sgt who spent his career in busy districts but scored bad on the test, or B) a Sgt promoted off the list who spent his career in HQ?
I don't work for anyone but myself.

You’re out of your mind. 50? No way
There is currently 77 vacancies due to retirements. The 2020 budget raises budgeted detective spots by 28. So by Jan 1st 28 + 77 = 105 open vacancies for detective. The rest depends on retirements and promotion to sgt. Unless the city has hidden money somewhere for more detectives due to the consent decree which is possible
Ah, I don’t care dropping my papers Friday. Goodbye cluster fuck CPD.

C. None of the above
D. A working Sgt. who passed the test and was promoted in rank order based on a test score.

Wow. Sounds like someone’s getting testy......so being given merit is acceptable for this man. What does it say about his brother who was given merit detective years ago. Actually they were in the same promotion class. These two are hooked up. Please stop with the bullshit. Deserves nothing. While TG will most likely end up back in the D unit his brother sits comfortable in gang intel. One of only three detectives. All of them phone call people. Not the BEST but phone call people. Like your guy TG. Being given a promotion isn’t bad but some of these guys haven’t had to have an uncomfortable day and that’s the sad part. Everyone feels entitled and they never really have to sacrifice for it.

Area 4 Half zip pullovers now available!! See Tom Flaherty or Denis Walsh!
dump the old list , need fresh faces
Staples might be making promises she can’t keep. In competent bitch needs to be gone. Look what happened to the KIA numbers once Fat Head got the boot. way down the several weeks since he has been gone. At current rate if he had been fired last Spring a hundred or so lives might have been spared. Not sure if that is s good or bad thing just an observation.

Lol no you wouldn't. You know why? Because when shit hits the fan the inside idiots who scored well on a test will be crying and they'll not remember any orders because their brain can't work fast enough in real life situations.

Whine, whine don’t blame everyone else for your lack of efficiency. CCSAO approve charges everyday, just ask a SVU dick.
