Hey Look

  • The Chicago Police Department announced Tuesday the number of detective areas in the city is expanding from three back to five in order to improve response times, particularly on the West Side.

Former Mayor Rahm Emanuel shuttered two of the original five.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot mentioned the plan in October, and a report from the Police Executive Research Forum recommended the expansion, saying it was challenging to effectively police large areas and respond in a timely manner.
01 April is the target date (not an April Fool's joke) and rumors of a class (or classes) of one-hundred-fifty detectives to back-fill the expected amount of movement have begun making the rounds.

So the premise to have 5 detective areas again is to improve response times by detectives to crime scenes. This will do what exactly ????. Will it make the asa's office less likely to C/I cases or deny felony charges. Will it change the warped brain of kim foxx. Does anyone really think that police officers or detectives care about rounding these assholes up when all that's going to happen is that they let them walk right out the door. Open 10 areas and make a 1000 detectives and nothing will change.

I am not sure that being a detective before making sergeant, and returning to D-unit should be a requirement. After all, all detectives were p.o.'s and had to learn the job. It's about putting in the time and effort. Hard work beats out natural ability all the time. If detectives applied themselves, they would be more successful.
Kevin Duffin - never a detective.
Now, for that goof TG from 025..... sounds like a real smart guy...that's why he's talking about it.
Most, if not all merit hacks, never deserved it and feel they over earned the bump. How does the city undo what has been done.
Spencer Boyd Kimble Douglas Terado ? That is just a few who were double bumped.
Don't get me wrong. I agree that being a detective - I mean a working detective - is a huge plus for being a supervisor in D-unit.
But, there are some real dogs wearing the detective button. And if I had to put a percentage on quality v. quantity.....?
You figure it out.

OFF TOPIC- PLEASE HELP WITH ADVICE-----

Retired 13 years on Medicare here. Got the FOP Medicare / Aetna health insurance. Any of you retired CPD know a dentist that I do not have to go in hook for to get a few crowns /caps for my fucked up teeth. Live in the Garfield Ridge Area, Clearing is also close.

FOP is offering dental insurance after 01 Jan 2020 for us retired guys with MET life. Will it be worth it or stay a cash-paying shmuck to these dentists.

The costs are unreal. Most dentists start at 1K a tooth for crown/cap.

My old dentist who was great and never charged me any cost retired.
I am not talking about those 3 K implants per tooth advertised on TV.

The implants are like laser eye surgery, the cost was 5 K when it came out and now it's 1K or less for both eyes.

Thanks to anyone who can help this old fuck.

I pity the OTJ people with spouse and kids. The prices the dentists charge now are over any reason.

Dumps were stopped for a reason. They were abused by the bosses(surprise). Sets were being dumped for personality conflicts with the boss, guys who were working difficult cases were getting dumped while inside sets , CMO sets stayed. When they tried doing it by arrests certain sets were say assigned school burglaries were a lot were solved by the principal info forwarded to the sets and their arrest count went up with 4 or 5 juice arrests

just listen to the old time radio dick shows and throw

No matter what u think you know about TG, he was a damn fine Detective and did a job that not many dared to pursue, and I don’t mean Sgt. If someone recommended him on a merit spot, why should he say no? We need strong people to gain leadership roles who attempt to do the right thing and pursue truth in the face of adversity. (God knows we have way too many political sheep supervising our ranks) TG did this in his prior job facing great personal risk, but knowing him, gaining rank from his efforts was not his motivation. So fu&@ off to the puke who has been railing on about this, I recommend that you do something more for others to improve our Department and our standing as Officers overall, rather than spew your impotent excuse for an opinion on these threads and try to throw shade on a solid guy.

There is currently 77 vacancies due to retirements. The 2020 budget raises budgeted detective spots by 28. So by Jan 1st 28 + 77 = 105 open vacancies for detective. The rest depends on retirements and promotion to sgt. Unless the city has hidden money somewhere for more detectives due to the consent decree which is possible

Wow. Sounds like someone’s getting testy......so being given merit is acceptable for this man. What does it say about his brother who was given merit detective years ago. Actually they were in the same promotion class. These two are hooked up. Please stop with the bullshit. Deserves nothing. While TG will most likely end up back in the D unit his brother sits comfortable in gang intel. One of only three detectives. All of them phone call people. Not the BEST but phone call people. Like your guy TG. Being given a promotion isn’t bad but some of these guys haven’t had to have an uncomfortable day and that’s the sad part. Everyone feels entitled and they never really have to sacrifice for it.

But again, CCSAO will stall, dilly dally for hours and impatient witnesses will continue leave no matter where they wait.

What’s hiring been like to promote 150 (boo-hoo...no merit) by Feb/March IST to prepare them for assignments by April ?

We still have a 20% merit boss preferential personnel management problem that includes lackeys, lazys and not-so-brights.
Heres a thought, will they ever cutback the SVU, use them for general assignments or will they even be farmed out SVU to the Areas.
The absence of juvie justice makes most of SVU unnecessary as the JISC.
