So we had this sent to us, and we found it lying around the station earlier yesterday (click for larger version):

Going to need some more detectives shortly.

Discuss. More detectives shortly?

Well shit. Dropping 1, 18, 12, keeping 3, and picking up 7? Maybe they’ll get us computers in central that can run a search without timing out or fix the printer.....more work ahead on tap.

Doesn’t matter how many dets are promoted. They need to be self-motivating in order to beat the bushes to solve crimes. The clearance rate will tic up a few points but nothing that would overcome decades worth of decline. Wait for COPA to start scrutinizing the dets like the cops pushing a squad. The Department will be even more demoralized.

They list my old district 012 as being at 100 S Racine. I guess the clouds have not learned that that building is now a children’s theater and that the district was moved several years ago. I think it would’ve made more sense to go back to the program that 0W Wilson put in place that was six Areas. He use the telephone trunk lines for creating divisions. With cell phones being the primary Play emergency calls originate That’s no longer necessary. The reality is this looks like a bunch of busywork for merit selected idiots.

I can’t help but notice all the incredibly painful things established that have destroyed a really fine law enforcement agency. Between a cop eating mayor, a racist Cop hating states attorney, a horrible excuse for Sheriff and a totally worthless presiding criminal court judge I see no hope in what left of my lifetime for the productive taxpayers of Chicago. Vigilantism is the expected next phase. Shoot, scoot and stay mute.

Exactly why I hated McCarthy. First he allowed manpower to deplete and we went on a hiring binge (although mostly snowflakes were hired); then he closed Areas that we are now re-opening. What's next? Will we go back to 25 Districts? It is obvious that we have 3-4 that are way too large.

Will the moratorium on promotions include the "Detective as Patrolman" rank? Technically it's not really a promotion, but a bump in pay. The city could argue that and still have a merit selection process.
And are our leaders who had any part in closing down two areas going to be held accountable here? What a horrible idea that was! Lets put a brick on those people. Lets see some more resignations...! Let's keep the "purge" going...

Old is new again. Welcome to the 21st Century...finally albeit in retrograde.

Wonder which Pass/Fail poor test taker brain trust Merit drew up and approved (12-Dec-2019) that color coded map and forgot to update the District addresses.
They’re not multi-merit promoting the best.

Less Districts, less detectives, fewer vehicles, fewer arrests, fewer felony approvals, more crime and wuh...there’s not any centrally located Homicide unit paying a premium wage?

More Dets means more hiring, but not in 2020. Make due what what you got. Super bids and does Management still get 20% ?

The angry, distempered community activist Lari LightLoafer’s new world order could set a height limit on Dets too and a require Dets to wear identical ill fit sport coats, bow ties and a derby. And must have non confrontational buttigieg noodle arms. Magnum ‘stache optional.
Equality opportunities.
-
Don’t expect Area 3 North to remain at it present location more than 3 years.
Prickwrinkle had a plan when she closed Br42 anticipating a mayoral win.
Shady GrootLoafer has the deed to that plot now, searching for less valued, desolate, crime infested, contaminated real estate somewhere else better than the Rahm-Prickwrinkle riverfront development scheme to compliment the Groot final approval of TIFs Sterling’s Bay Lincoln Yards colonization.
It’s why she hired on vacant property scout and middleman lobbyist Section8’Arena as a city development planner.

There are days I feel guilty about not working as hard as I once did, but then I see these assholes that show up and just after they train they’re working to find a spot where they never have to work any kind of case. They’ve all got excuses, kids etc. I can tell some of them are trying to figure out what the Hell I do. Trust me, I do what I’m asked, initiate other things too, self-manage but it’s taken me a dozen plus years to get here. Every one is going to be disappointed in who gets to "run" these new areas. Look for big cronyism here. This is going to be a big political hand out to LL loyalists. Remember, ALL of these people are still in on the past triple merit promos and are experts in knowing how to suck up! Now we will see who the "anointed" really are. I'd like to see interim commanders until some decent people can finally be promoted by test scores, and abilities. Leadership ability would be nice too, but that isn't one of Chicago's values these days is it?
I see a train wreck coming, and you heard it here first. I would like to see lots more early resignations before these appointments are made.

FOP
Time to spend some money 💰.
Hire Private Investigators to follow Merit Captains / Inspectors around for two weeks .
Send results to Superintendent Beck ,local and national news .
All will cover an anti police report .

Why aren’t Sergeants assigned as Inspectors?
Why pay a merit captain $135k a year , give them a company car to write up police officers for uniforms, grooming standards .
Plenty of captains , lieutenants, command staff with uniform , grooming violations that inspectors ignore .
Maybe they could be used on foot patrol in high crime neighborhoods.

Work at the Academy, we have been told to prepare for 2 Det classes, each of 125 in Jan and March. LL wants 50 new Dets at each area, expect 50 currently working in Area HGS now to go to the homicide team at Homan. New dets will go to SVU/Youth which will handle all rapes and CSAs or RBT which will be pulled from Districts and work at the 5 Areas. All homicides and Agg Batts will be homicide team. The homicide team will get a Deputy Chief and 4 Commanders, each working 12 hour shifts, all dets and sgts will be assigned to 12 hour shifts with 3 on/4 off and reverse the following week. This is to cut down on OT. Each Commander will be responsible for a 12 hour squad of sgts and detectives. Also expect the 2 new Areas to each get a commander and 2 Lts. They are also bringing back another deputy chief position for the 2 new areas.

You had me until the 12 hour shifts. The department command staff right now HATES the 10 hour days. The reason they hate it is because there are too many days off for the detectives. If a detective gets a case on a Friday they may not first look at that case for 3-4 days after it happened. 3-4 days can kill a case and kills the clearance rate and weakens cases. They are seeing this as a huge problem in area south currently. No chance they are going to let homicide detectives only work three days a week. Nothing with the case will get done especially since the rule of thumb now with the 10 hour days is that you CANNOT get a job assigned as the primary detective on your Friday because you will be off for the next 3-4 days and nothing will get done. Your myth is debunked.

Actually you’re wrong. The 10 hour day is not a contractual thing per se. it’s actually a negotiated memorandum of understanding. It pretty much just says that the city, department and union agree on the terms of the 10 hour day. Like anything, the city can back out at any minute. In turn, the FOP can only then file an unfair labor practice which as we all know means nothing at all. It takes 7-12 months or more to get something back and if they find in the unions favor nothing changes, it just means that the city has to work out something with the union in the future.. that’s it. The 10 hour day is broken. All 5 detective areas are going to the same schedule when this rolls out.
