Starbucks Again
So earlier this month, Starbucks allegedly fired an employee in Oklahoma who put the word "pig" on an officer's order, an order the officer was picking up as a Thank You to his dispatchers.
Then late last week, two Riverside California deputies were blatantly ignored for at least five minutes waiting to place an order at another Starbucks. The company insists this a was simply a customer service oversight and the deputies weren't deliberately ignored, but rather the employees were "inattentive." If you think that sounds like bullshit, you'd be correct as video shows others customers being served promptly.
One would be hard pressed to not think that Starbucks was run by assholes, employing assholes. Then you have yesterday's Sergeant test at McCormick Place, where there happens to be a Starbucks on the premises:

Why anyone would ever go into a Starbucks unless it was for a call is beyond us. The coffee is substandard and the corporate structure is supportive of openly discriminating against the police. They closed down every shop earlier this year, supposedly to teach their staff not to be "biased" against freeloaders sitting in their shops, stealing their wifi, without purchasing a single item, but cops with money are openly disdained, mocked or refused service by Starbucks, even in a building owned by the City of Chicago.
Anyone spending a dime there is enabling the police hating culture. Fuck them. If you can't find an alternate coffee shop or a Mom-and-Pop operation that brews a decent cup of coffee, you aren't trying hard enough.
UPDATE: There are more than one in the building. The one on the testing floor was closed - which is amazing in and of itself. Who doesn't know cops drink coffee, especially midnight cops coming into a test?

At the same time, of I believe it is illegal to park in front of most of them and also illegal to block traffic & walkways trying to get into the drive-through of theirs. I would say short of other people getting served being ignored at Starbucks is business as usual in my experience. My wife likes them and I can't understand how anyone in their right minds would go to a store that doesn't seem to want their money.
Anyone asked to leave after the test should be notifying corporate to make a complaint. They tend to take this sort of thing pretty seriously.
SCC, it's sad but true how we are our own worst enemies. How many cops subscribe our buy the Scum-times or Tribune while they constantly attack our profession? How many buy Nike products after they paid Kapernick for insulting us? How can we blast the citizens of Chicago for continually voting Democrat while we actively support our enemies? I wouldn't even go there for a call. Police are under no duty to respond to any calls for service (US Sup Ct), so fuck 'em. Give them exactly what they want - no cops.

The one I go to seems to have an excellent relationship with the police that come through there. It is in Northwest Indiana though. Can't vouch for any other ones.

There exists a mom and pop coffee shop in my northside district that played the delay game with several officers after changing ownership. The message was clear and I never went back.
On another note, I will never forget the stunned look on the faces of the staff at the Lawrence/Broadway Starbucks when sauvignon got shotified in their shop.
He was nice and gave us drugs so we let him hang out.

Ok, this Starbucks shit with police officers is extremely upsetting. So it’s ok for them to judge people by the clothes they wear? I do have to say the 3-4 Starbucks I visit in Chicago while I’m working are nothing but friendly and the one frequented most often in my district will not except police officers money. In fact, they love to talk and are extremely friendly and grateful. I think this crap is by a few evil nasty people. I happen to like the taste of a strong Starbucks coffee but I’m starting to consider going elsewhere. I’ll just have to have DD put in an extra expresso shot for boost.
As a non-coffee drinker, this doesn’t affect me, but I cannot fathom why our people go to this place at all. Go to Dunkin’ Donuts or 7-11, or somewhere else that likes us. Fuck Starbucks. They’re like the Colin Kaepernick of the coffee world.

I haven’t been in a Starbucks in at least three years. The last time I was in an establishment I was on duty and I was the fourth person in line. The three millennials in front of me paid with the Starbucks app and went to wait for their orders. I paid cash and tipped the change out of a $5 bill. The tip was around $1.75. The manager with the Victorian beard was making the drinks and handing them to the customers. He was also discussing schedules with the order taker with the Victorian beard. The manager was pleasant and chatted with the customers in front of me as he called their names and pointed them to the cream & sugar. Now I’m up, and there are no customers behind me. His attitude immediately changed and he basically turned his back to me as he made my stupid iced Americano. He made a real effort to have a conversation with the other bearded fool who, I could sense, also felt the uncomfortable vibe coming from the manager. When my iced coffee was done he slapped a lid on it and slid it across the counter, past where I was standing. I could see that the lid was loose and leaking. He started to walk away and then flipped two straws at me as an afterthought. At this point I believe Dr Freud would say I lost my shit. I was not threatening or abusive, but I did start the conversation with, “Who the fuck do you think you are throwing a straw at me?” I don’t remember a lot of what I said but I did point out that I knew what was going on, I wasn’t stupid. That I had paid for my drink and I tipped unlike the dipshits in front of me that needed to take selfie’s of their sphincter to wipe their asses. I also told him I wasn’t spending five bucks to be treated like shit by a failed actor that didn’t know where his testicles were, much less how to use them. The whole time he looked at me with that insipid “progressive” look while mumbling some bullshit. At some point he walked through a doorway out of sight and I left. I will admit that I overreacted a bit. It was after Ferguson & McDonald and I was just tired of catching those bullshit looks everywhere I went. Now I won’t frequent anyplace that’s not staffed by Greeks or immigrants. I don’t need shit from some cow town asshole that went to a big ten school and is now enjoying an urban adventure. I’ve told a lot of policemen this story and I don’t think it stopped any of them from going to Starbucks. Now that I’m done ranting I’ll admit that I left something out. I immediately picked up one of the straws he flipped at me and, as hard as I could, I threw it back at him and hit him in the back of the head. It felt good, I liked it, and I had his attention.

What’s wrong with these police officers? Don’t you know they cannot refuse you service, isn't that discrimination, did you back down? The common sense response should have been we are not leaving, place our orders and call for on duty police to do a license check. Did somebody have a cell phone to tape this encounter? Oh and by the way our group isn't comfortable with that group that’s uncomfortable with law enforcement officers who are legally armed. We have every legal right to be here. If the other group cannot accept that maybe they can find another place to go to because we are not leaving. If Starbucks persisted in their unfriendly behavior I would find more police to come in for coffee and treat them to what ever they wanted. The more the merrier! Whatever you do, never back down. In Nov 2019 employees at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Naperville told a black family that they couldn't sit near a certain white man because he did not want black people around him. This was all over the news for days with the family appearing with their lawyer on TV. The employee was fired, the staff has to take sensitivity training and you know there will be a lawsuit.

I’m sure they’re all probably a bunch of looney progressives, but they give us half off, and the people working there are always really nice to me. The one girl has my order memorized, I throw her a few bucks and everyone is happy. Starbucks? When I used to go there, they fuck everything up anyways.

I guess Starbucks collects money once a year for them. The only legitimate use for Starbucks coffee is to dislodge any stubborn fece that might be stuck in your innards. Starbucks does, however, provide the police with many opportunities tho, to ticket any hardened criminal that might choose to park illegally or drive in an unsafe manner.

This story doesn’t paint the whole picture. I went to the same starbucks. This Starbucks was located behind the security perimeter of a Jewish convention. Understandably everyone had to go through a metal detector to get inside that area. I approached, had my jacket on so I had everything concealed. After noticing I’d have to go through a metal detector I showed the staff my credentials and told them I was getting something to drink and they let me in. Starbucks employees were not involved in who gets through security and who doesn’t. My guess is that the officers who got refused entry probably showed up with guns visible. The staff has to do their job and if they have restrict orders for no guns then they were right to refuse entry to off duty officers.
I'm going to go into a Starbucks with all of my "Support the blue" things I have from D.C. and sit there for a couple hours on my computer....and bring my own coffee from Dunkin Donuts.
Used to be Starbucks loved the police. Used to offer half off of whatever you ordered. I never took it, always left a great tip. What the hell happened? Starbucks better address this and fast. I would think that any gangbanger should know that Starbucks are now open territory for robberies if the police stay out of there.

I must preface my comment with this - I do not drink coffee. I do not like coffee. I cannot tell the difference between the cheapest instant coffee and the most expensive stuff crapped out of cats. I cannot imagine paying $3 or more for a cup of coffee. That is at least $1,000 a year. So how did Starbucks become such a thing and make the owner a billionaire. And create this class of people known as barristas. End of rant.

I complained to Starbucks last time it happened to POs and received long Email on how they (Starbucks) value their customers and said that such incidents are not typical.
I suggest that they close down all their stores for a day and spend time going over how valuable police officers are and that guns don't jump out of the holster on their own, run around the store and start causing trouble.
They should also go over how having a police officer frequent your business is protecting the employee from those who have bad intentions.

I haven't given my money to Starbucks in years. Not since the corporation refused to send coffee to US troops in combat in Afghanistan. I saw the Starbucks with its steel down. It was closed before and after the test. I didn't see the lights on or employees inside. But if you are a police officer and going to Starbucks, your are a weak sell-out!
It's a private business. They can select what customers they want to serve. I can understand why they might want to exclude uniformed police as customers.
I dont think this is some kind of corporate policy though. Just a few employees who for whatever reason dont want to have cops around.
There is definitely a change in the room when cops do show up, even if they are just there for coffee. Some people including a few employees probably find that change uncomfortable. It would not surprise me in the least if there are customers who just keep driving if they see a cop car in the parking lot.

I am an old fart civilian who has never set foot in a starbucks. Some years ago a co- worker bought me a cup and it was some of the nastiest coffee I ever tasted. I can't see how anyone can pretend to actually like that shit they serve and may be why they have different flavored swill to add to it. Local restaurants used to serve local superior brand coffee which far surpassed starbucks. Even drunken donuts coffee tastes better. Starbucks probably adds emasculating plant estrogen laden soy products to it, and for that reason alone it should be shunned. Anything other than half and half just ain't right.

What the National FOP should do is to call a news conference and announce that the National FOP is recommending that none of its member should patronize Starbucks. What Kevin Graham of the Chicago's FOP should demand a meeting with owners or managers of this Starbucks and demand a written apology to all Chicago Police Officers for this conduct. This is unacceptable. Besides, Dunkin Donuts is much better tasting and a whole lot cheaper.

First of all, if your still going to Starbucks you deserve what you get. And then you have Alderman Thompson cheering the building of a Starbucks in the 11th Ward on 31st and Halsted. Located right next to the 9 District and guaranteed to screw traffic up big time on a corner that is already hard to maneuver in. Add in that we already have two independent coffee shops within blocks of where Starbucks is going. With all the different businesses needed in Bridgeport, this is what we get. Because if Starbucks comes, then everyone will follow. Yeah right. And Starbucks should be booted out of McCormick Place. Tired of this crap.
As a civilian who respects our Officers, and seeing what Starbucks is doing, I never, ever will venture into their disgusting establishments.

I have to be honest here. I have never has a problem with Starbucks. I have had many a cup of free coffee there over the years in uniform. I don't know if I was "intimidating" any one. To be honest I don't really care. People in our society need to be reminded that they are being protected by men (and women) who carry guns.
I even met a lady in line from "Corporate" Starbucks offices once who saw me in uniform and tendered me a free Latte on the house.
I see the news stories and I am aware that the employees are the problem in most cases. One good thing about Starbucks is that there is lots of turn over in their staff at the retail level. If someone doesn't like you, or you don't like them, wait a while, and they will likely be gone...
I like their coffee, and NO silly boycott will keep me from my favorite CupOjoe… Remember that you are an Ambassador when you go out in Uniform, and treat people like you want to be treated, and they will most likely respond in kind. The bad guys always will differ in their behavior. That's how we can spot them.

I have yet to have a negative experience at Starbucks, in uniform or out. The above comment is correct. There was extra security for a Jewish convention of some sort, understandable because of the NJ event. The Starbucks was behind a security checkpoint, and the fault here lies with either the officer not understanding the situation or the extra security not being accommodating to the officer. Not Starbucks, though...

I’ve easily gotten coffee in 30 or more Starbucks while I’m uniform I’m my 20 years and have never had an issue. My home Starbucks is wonderful to the police. And the coffee is the best. I’ll keep going daily
If you like Starbucks that much, maybe buy a bag at Costco & make your own at home. Also, be kind to those less fortunate and give out Starbucks cards to those less fortunate & living in tents by the underpass. I haven’t been in a Starbucks in at least three years. The last time I was in an establishment I was on duty and I was the fourth person in line. The three millennials in front of me paid with the Starbucks app and went to wait for their orders. I paid cash and tipped the change out of a $5 bill. The tip was around $1.75. The manager with the Victorian beard was making the drinks and handing them to the customers. He was also discussing schedules with the order taker with the Victorian beard. The manager was pleasant and chatted with the customers in front of me as he called their names and pointed them to the cream & sugar. Now I’m up, and there are no customers behind me. His attitude immediately changed and he basically turned his back to me as he made my stupid iced Americano. He made a real effort to have a conversation with the other bearded fool who, I could sense, also felt the uncomfortable vibe coming from the manager. When my iced coffee was done he slapped a lid on it and slid it across the counter, past where I was standing. I could see that the lid was loose and leaking. He started to walk away and then flipped two straws at me as an afterthought. At this point I believe Dr Freud would say I lost my shit. I was not threatening or abusive, but I did start the conversation with, “Who the fuck do you think you are throwing a straw at me?” I don’t remember a lot of what I said but I did point out that I knew what was going on, I wasn’t stupid. That I had paid for my drink and I tipped unlike the dipshits in front of me that needed to take selfie’s of their sphincter to wipe their asses. I also told him I wasn’t spending five bucks to be treated like shit by a failed actor that didn’t know where his testicles were, much less how to use them. The whole time he looked at me with that insipid “progressive” look while mumbling some bullshit. At some point he walked through a doorway out of sight and I left. I will admit that I overreacted a bit. It was after Ferguson & McDonald and I was just tired of catching those bullshit looks everywhere I went. Now I won’t frequent anyplace that’s not staffed by Greeks or immigrants. I don’t need shit from some cow town asshole that went to a big ten school and is now enjoying an urban adventure. I’ve told a lot of policemen this story and I don’t think it stopped any of them from going to Starbucks. Now that I’m done ranting I’ll admit that I left something out. I immediately picked up one of the straws he flipped at me and, as hard as I could, I threw it back at him and hit him in the back of the head. It felt good, I liked it, and I had his attention.

Sorry to go against the grain on this one, but please don't generalize to smear the thousands of Starbucks locations from a scattered handful of bad employees. I asked the manager of the Starbucks I regularly go to, and was told that cops, firefighters, and paramedics get free coffees there. As it should be. I've seen it. Oh, I don't know about the grande double shot blah blah blah. It is always possible that a new employee may not have gotten the word. And a Starbucks next to a station house might not be able to do it and stay in business. For everyone else - what is the safest place in town? The place with two cops in front of you in line.

It costs a buck fifty for a never ending cup.It has about fifteen stools and seats for about thirty.It use to display caned possum, honest to god.The only bike riders are those who lost their licensee and are afraid to drive without one.It opens. at 5am every day, all the police who come in sit with their backs to the wall facing the windows, but you can tell something falls off them as they are greeted by the rest of the customers, a lot of whom look like the actors in the walking dead TV show.You would be surprised at the educated people who come in , just to avoid the assholes who infest Starbucks.

My issue with Starbucks has more to do with the whole hypocritical bullshit. Poor schmucks in shit hole countries are being overworked and underpaid in order for corporate profits. Nothing new here, but the PC culture seems to be ignoring that fact. So when I spend a delightful turn around in Djibouti or any other shit hole with unhappy peons I have to watch my not only my wallet, but the rest of my body as well, as the locals equate any Yankee with Starbucks, or whatever other corporate entity that is fucking them over at the moment. And the same liberal pukes that protest for immigrants, climate change and saving the gay whales don't have a problem with their favorite toys, electric car and burnt coffee have no problem with whatever destruction it takes to feed their needs. Plastic straws are bad... But dumping toxic waste from their outdated sail fawns and prius batteries in Bangladesh is okay as long as an NGO tells them that their 19.95 a month will save the day. And if nasty old policemen come into their stores and ruin their buzz (baristas are all stoned), now all the passive aggressive energy has a focus. Anything to keep from looking in the mirror

Have the national FOP put out a statement asking all police officers to cease going to Starbucks due to the all too often mistreatment of law enforcement officers. That should probably make them nervous, to think that police officers, as a point, will never be in their stores. Criminals love the no gun sticker, and places cops don't go.
National office of FOP needs to endorse a nationwide boycott of Starbucks. Make sure the legal parking is enforced around the business community. We can not wait for the politicians to support us. We must start demanding equal justice under the law for law enforcement.
If you are so troubled by your treatment report them to the Bureau of Consumer Affairs and the City of Chicago Commission on Human Rights. There is someone there to address your feelings.
This story doesn’t paint the whole picture. I went to the same starbucks. This Starbucks was located behind the security perimeter of a Jewish convention. Understandably everyone had to go through a metal detector to get inside that area. I approached, had my jacket on so I had everything concealed. After noticing I’d have to go through a metal detector I showed the staff my credentials and told them I was getting something to drink and they let me in. Starbucks employees were not involved in who gets through security and who doesn’t. My guess is that the officers who got refused entry probably showed up with guns visible. The staff has to do their job and if they have restrict orders for no guns then they were right to refuse entry to off duty officers.

I really limit my coffee shop visits these days...I think it’s stupid to pay $6 bucks for a mediocre coffee drink. DD is piss water in my opinion and honestly I’ve been to a few DD that had workers that didn’t seem to love us. I’ve been to plenty of Starbucks that aren’t anti-police. I think as with any place these days, it’s really dependent upon the environment set by management and a few workers. I definitely notice a difference in Starbucks depending where it’s located. Honestly, some of these posts sound like PR marketing for Black Rifle coffee (which aren’t located in many places). Hey, if that’s your thing - no problem supporting a business that is pro 2nd amendment and veteran, first responder/police, but let’s not create sweeping judgements of Starbucks based on actions of certain employees. Out those employees and demand Starbucks have a protocol in place for anti bias that applies to ALL. Not patronizing them is your prerogative. As far as free shit while working, I’d rather pay to avoid the stereotype of cheap ass that some coppers have abused. Hey cheap asses, did you ever think that you don’t get a big welcome in some places or that the courtesy freebies dry up because you abuse them. You know those guys/gals- the same ones that order extra large coffees, two donuts and a breakfast sandwich and then can’t even tip the poor minimum wage girl at DD a buck or two when his shit just cost about $10. They are now. A few years ago some SJW wrote “FUCK THE POLICE” on the wall in the men’s bathroom wall. Officers complained to staff and were ignored. The member of a police family who lived nearby found out about it and asked the F2 manager to paint over it and she was a bitch and blew her off. The family member then went to the “mothership” on Western and spoke directly to the owner, Jesse Diaz. He was shocked that it wasn’t immediately painted over and sincerely apologized. It was gone by the end of the day. If I actually drank coffee I’d go there or the other Dark Matter locations around the city.
