Good luck on part one to all my blue shirt friends. - DaShank :)
Notify the Watch Commander? How can that be wrong?
With 28 years on the Job and 4600 hours on the books, I'm going for it just to cash out at Sergeant's pay. As "Peoples" would say on the movie Shaft, "Eaziest money you'll ever make!"
Like the last one, will there be convicted felons also proctoring this exam?
Go get 'em Tiger!!!!
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
You know, after reading that article from the alderman regarding the merit process, I sit here now in the parking lot, thinking I have no juice to help me with this, and according to the alderman, merits are used to balance the black and Latino members of Sgt and above. I’m just sitting here wondering...
Even if they do bring back the merit process, and I disqualified from that because I’m not black or Latino?
I am going to Ceres cafe after the test to get a drink. I have been under a lot of stress hopefully it will calm me down.
I’m cramming for the test right now since they took merit away. My clout said he wasn’t sure wut wood happen so he said better start studying
How many from IAD will be in the top ten?
Make way!
Retiring in 24 months. Have no interest in being a baby sitter. Don't want to loose my seniority, furlough picks, watch picks, and get stuck on midnight's, get a lousy furlough, loose seniority, and end up in a worse SHIT HOLE. No thanks!!!!!
I'd like to wish everyone taking the exam today the best of luck. I'm proud of those who put in the time and effort to study hard, and hope your effort pays off.
No go knock 'em dead!

ssc lets remember no more merit but they will play around with the test scores.
a non clouted gets a 100 percent and a clouted bosses kid gets a zero and they switch the test scores you never know what you really got,
the person they want promoted are already promoted
Good Luck SCC and also to "a few of your people" too.
can't wait to hear these after-comments...
Did the test stat on time
what the count of the police officers taking the test vs signing up for test
I WAS SCAMMED!
I played fair and honest and these connected goof nuts
bypassed me in the workplace. Until Eddie Johnson got
loaded and brought the shit show down.
Good luck everyone!
Good luck everyone!
What time?
Will there be a 3rd Watch fair ‘n square - I don’t test well, Part 1 Pass/Fail makeup exam cuz I just got up.
I over slept the exam and never felt better...
Anyone out ?
How was it ?
Are they scoring answer sheets ?
Did they start on time ?
Good Luck to All .
No Merit , that is good news , now pray Charlie Beck makes 89%a passing score , no 56% for certain politicians friends .
Rumor has it a few exempts had scores under 79% .

That test was jacked up!!
Good luck
I think I passed. I hope???
What happens next? When do they tell us if we passed? How? Via email or mail? Any idea about the passing score benchmark?
I thought it was super easy. But then again I’ve had the answers for months.
Signed,
Clout
M proud of all who came today, best of luck!
Thought test was harder then I expected. Several questions were ambiguous...
I must say, it was a basic and pretty easy test. The questions were drafted right out of the study material (GO’s, etc.) It was a smooth process. No commotion and no confusion. The workers were far better than the ones that worked during the detective test.
Ok can anyone confirm the rumor going thru 35th about Johnson’s whereabouts. The rumor I heard can’t possibly be real.

Keep publicly laughing at the tax paying voter and then watch them rip that pension protection clause right out of the state constitution along with a good chunk of your pension.
Bernstein was dead on!!!
Bring on part 2!
Some questions where unrelated to Sgt duties or responsibilities. DUI procedures? 1ST OFFCIER HAZMAT point of views? I'm sure I did not pass. Oh well. Time for merit!
I have more questions than answers!!!
No more merit??? That's BullShit! I am calling my Daddy...
The city should require every current Sergeant and Lieutenant to take their exam every time it's offered to retain their rank, if they fail then demote them...
12/14/2019 07:35:00 AM
That's the dumbest fucking idea since "merit."It's a promotion test, not a retention test. Why should someone who legitimately scored well on the test be required to take future tests? They already met the requirements for promotion. They shouldn't have to keep "proving" they're qualified by taking another promotion test every time it's offered. I assume your dumb idea comes from the mistaken belief that no one could possibly score well enough to be promoted without cheating, and that future tests would reveal these cheaters, causing them to be demoted. What makes you think these cheaters wouldn't just cheat again? Wouldn't they be even more likely to cheat in order to retain their rank? You think constant testing would somehow legitimize the promotion process, because something must have been horribly wrong with the test you took, since you didn't get promoted. No one else deserves the promotion you couldn't get, because there's no way they could actually know the material better than you. You studied and studied, and paid for Bernstein, and felt like you did great on the test. Then your score didn't match your expectations, so everyone else must constantly prove they deserved it more than you. Right? Because there's no way that many people could've legitimately done better than you. Right? Think about something you've earned through your hard work and dedication. Now ask yourself if you should have to constantly prove you deserved it, or if you're entitled to it because you already earned it. You're not going to flush out the cheaters with more testing. You're just going to burden, annoy, and punish those who legitimately earned their promotion. Come up with a better plan, because punishing everyone for the misdeeds of others isn't fair.
I hope BecK make 70 percent the passing number. If you score below a 70 you shouldn’t be promoted. We have too many incompetent supervisors due to merit and the low curve
There were a lot of no shows.
The first part is done. We need the consent decree monitors to oversee the scoring.
This sergeants exam was better than the last one.
However Jim Harris study group was a wasted 1000 bucks.
Were there two different versions of the exam? Because my answer sheet looked a lot different than the guy next to me.
What’s with merit hack JH in full uniform acting a fool greeting everyone?? Ruined the whole merit program and shows up !!!
The Mayor said the test was going to be on the legit. What could possibly go wrong. Now that Groot has taken charge of the Shitty City even Pro Wrestling is on the up and up.
So sans merit, it will go back to the ild unofficial merit system.
A few morons will get pencil-whipped up the list and that will be that.
On the upside, far fewer morons get spots the old way.

I registered but ultimately decided to skip, spent the day with my kids instead. With over 20 on why on earth would I lose my seniority and my day bid and head to mids in the hood? Lol. Good luck to those that want it, I hope you scored well!
I thought it was easy but Eddie gave me the answers. Thanks Ed.

Imagine if you checked the $ box instead Comp Time and invested the $, the S&P up 20% this year, that seems easier and smarter.
The tax would have been paid at a lower rate when you had dependents and write offs, now you will cash 4600x55=253k + 80k pension and pay 35% tax, so 1530 of those hours you worked are going to the IRS, we thank you for you generous donation of 90K in taxes.
Speak to a financial adviser, for those young on the job, have a nice cushion of hours in the event of an emergency, then check the $ box.
Offset the extra income by adding more to def Comp or if already maxed out, contribute to Roth IRA or other vehicles for investment, don’t let your hours sit there and grow at the rate of the cost of living (which is not growth just maintenance).

It was hard to differentiate between CB1 and CB2 or just CPS. Scary either way
You mean they got rid of merit? I was told I was gonna make it on merit. All I did today was write my name on the test and then left.
Off Topic but on topic tons of changes coming. Central coming south soon and south will be moved? Well no one knows
Again the most right answer or worst. Tuff test some gimmes some questions about laws and case law& Justified or not Justified stops. Lots of fast readers test done and outs in an hour??? Hmmm Same good bosses wishing luck Some saying stupid things “did you study’ yea I not being made like you Cato or given the test. Same proctors same racists. Pass Fail on a curve I’m sure good luck on part 2-3-4 Geez oral exam is appropriate these days.
What’s with all these fake ass merit greeters at the door ?
Well...that test didn’t go well for me. Hopefully you all had a better outcome
Um, yep. That sounds right. I found myself asking myself a test question..... “Do I actually want this job?”
Lots of asshole drivers out there. As the test results will show, to the drivers that think they are, you're not smarter than everyone else by cutting the single file line. You're just a complete douchebag.
Been following the rules my entire career... sorry that I passed you while simultaneously flicking you off but if the exempts on this job taught me anything is you have to want it more than the other guy and playing by the rules is for the birds.
All bull crap. What’s funny is the department had a separate department directives just for sergeants test however I don’t recall them mentioning that to anybody. And for those people that took Bernstein some of these test questions were on the test but the majority of the stuff he told people to study was completely not on the test. So get your money back hopefully They throw out a bunch of questions and curve it to a 45% so at least half the people there can pass ha ha ha.
The fix was in before we even showed up...

Good Luck to All .
Just crawled out of that forsaken building. Test was tough as nails and just as hard, my over/under is less than 2000 score above 70% (which should be the cut-off). Rumor is scores available by late Jan. Of course they didn’t start on time. Maybe 30 min after 9 and doors remained open till 9:10
Best of luck to all and pray the connected get weeded out.
On my way into the test that can make or break my career, the one I studied so hard for and spent hours upon hours away from my family for to prepare for, it was so comforting and inspirational to be greeted by so many “bosses” of the CPD who didn’t have to do any of that. Those merit a-holes stood there and all I could do is throw them a dirty look knowing that they never sacrificed anything or did anything for their promotion. No respect for you merit thieves.
Heck yeah , a few JO’s cutting in front of everyone
Hope they flunked
Simple. Can’t believe that it was as straightforward as it was. Lots of past tests had wacky questions these were easy
Did anyone else love all the merit bosses shaking your hand as you walked in. What an actual joke.
You mean they got rid of merit? I was told I was gonna make it on merit. All I did today was write my name on the test and then left.
12/14/2019 07:22:00 PM
I made sure to write my name on my arm in case I forgot. Whew. That was nerve racking.

Absolutely couldn’t agree more! They’ve given nothing. All promoted based on their connections. CPD is a total disgrace Merit Merit Merit
Is it true several merit supervisors were there greeting the test takers???
If true how great is that. Should’ve had people who actually studied for their promotions be there with encouraging words.
No merit Retired Lt.
Having done this process twice I can tell you it’s all about part 2. If you studied properly you will pass.
Don’t lose sight of the goal, a raise, pension bump up, and better quality of life!
Ignore the cry babies, stay focused, and follow what the Doc says for part 2.
It worked twice for me.

Were any of Ed’s side pieces there to demonstrate the proper technique for the “oral” part of the interview.?
I heard they had merit Sgts do a phone-a-thon last night to encourage people to show up, they said it's all legit
It wasn’t easy & no Bernstein wasn’t dead on S#!T!
All the people saying they didn't take the test because they were retiring soon, are dumb. If you got promoted, your salary would be much higher and your pension would have increased dramatically. Damn, I would just go on the medical till retirement. The pension is 1000 more a month. Why the hell wouldn't you try for that since you're retiring soon anyway?
Thank God the MERIT system is abolished!!!!!
Yeah...ok. That system isn’t going anywhere. They might make some modifications, but these bird Alderman will cry the garbage race card & “minorities don’t have a fair advantage” nonsense.

I just found it a bit offensive that so many career meritorious bosses were there to great and monitor the applicants.
So, let me see if i have this correct........I studied for six months despite having 3 kids in catholic schools and my wife working full time to make ends meet.....I took the Bernstein study group just to stay on track with my competition.......based on my studying, the questions were pretty much what I expected......But if I score well, I'm a bad guy and must have cheated? Next time get there early and/or get done early. Otherwise quit your bitching and hold my place in line.
12/14/2019 02:52:00 PM
Doctors are required to do it. It's called continuing education. Nothing wrong with keeping a high standard, that's why we take training and refresher courses. And if you're whole argument is that they've cheated before they'll cheat again then why even have a test

“Heck yeah”? Hope you greet your next merit SGT with as much enthusiasm because that’s exactly what that asshole did. Who knows, maybe it was Eddies boy just learning how to cut in line.
If driving/cutting in front is your concern, than sgt isn't for you. My concern is more about how easy it was for someone to cheat by using the "bathroom pass". I am pretty sure some people snug their phones in (probably tuck in a bra or their elastic underwear band or something). "take a bathroom break" and come back and answer the ones that you don't know.
Hell I seen few with smart watches...

Worry about yourself and pass. I’m sure they don’t give a flying fuck what you or anyone else thinks because when it comes down to it they’re laughing all the way to the bank
To everyone who thinks merit is gone. Word from inside source is that Charlie wasn't lying about no more giving away positions. He just didn't clarify what he meant. He will not be filling any exempt ranks that he removes! Merit is part of the contract and merit Sgts will still be promoted! Sorry guys and gals who actually studied.
No respect for the merits
I hope BecK make 70 percent the passing number. If you score below a 70 you shouldn’t be promoted. We have too many incompetent supervisors due to merit and the low curve
You must not be a numbers guy. You want to blame merit and low curve on our problems. Sorry. Doesn’t add up. There is no “low curve” Perse. There are approximately 1300 sgts, 390 or so are merit. At least 910 have been made by rank order. 271 Lts, 81 or so are merit. 190 are rank order. If anyone wants to blame merit supervisors for the woes of the dept, you’re just not that smart. The stats don’t offer that conclusion. Sgts and Lts have the single biggest impact on morale as that is the person that officers have the most contact. And let’s be clear on something. There is a huge misconception that merit promoted bosses didn’t pass a test. Wrong. They passed. Just didn’t score high enough. Big difference. No existing supervisor has failed an exam.
Now, the command staff has an unusually high percentage of merit promoted bosses, but not all. There are quite a few that made in rank order. I won’t say they made it legit as we all know the tests have been compromised over the years, going back at least 25 years. All lists should be made public. All tests should be 3-400 multiple choice. One part. Writing part is too subjective in nature to be fair. You should get a copy of your results as you leave the exam.
Merit system was flawed. No question. Define it. Use it. No lifetime secretaries are eligible. 80% of a career has to be in the field. Candidates are evaluated by outside people. Use the military model. It can be done. And it should be.
A bunch of good bosses have been made that way. I’d rather have a decision maker than someone that over analyzes a situation without a solution.

If we are testing on the subject and you are the person who is supposed to know these things, why wouldn't you have to know it? You should. No rank order, but for a current sergeant, Lt, Capt, or exempt to not know what their job is would be and is a disservice to the men and women of the CPD. Everyone above a PO/Detective should have to take every new promotional test and pass. If you don't pass, take remedial courses or get demoted if you can't pass. There would be a shift in culture, that's for sure.

Come up with a better plan, because punishing everyone for the misdeeds of others isn't fair.
.Beck says that merit promotions are over. But there still exists the big problem of how do you then promote these exceptional officers that can’t pass a test? This is a nightmare.
Multiple choice only and answers graded on the spot before you leave the test room. No curve at all 80% is passing threshold for promotion. Once thone with the 80% passing grade promoted new test administered. Graded while you wait again. Highest test score promoted first down to the 80% last. Simple as that.
Some questions where unrelated to Sgt duties or responsibilities rational was . DUI procedures? 1ST OFFCIER HAZMAT point of views? I'm sure I did not pass. Oh well. Time for merit!
12/14/2019 02:40:00 PM
Notdefending, but I think the rationale was since, as a Sgt arriving on scene and being the next, highest ranking officer, you'd take command and know what steps are first and most important to save lives and and prevent (further) loss of life and property
Good luck to all who studied hard, sacrificed personal time, and helped each other in legitimate study groups.
I was fortunate to be promoted through the ranks on the CFD and our group maintained that "they" could not take away a high grade on the written, only hurt you on the oral (we still said the right things in oral interviews so we ended up with grades in the 80's (written scores between 96 - 99), thus, even with the "banding" (euphemism for quota) we were eventually promoted.
The sad part for CFD - the fastest I ever received the results of my exam was 9 months and often it takes years (a Lt's exam once took FOUR YEARS for the results to come out!!).
Also, "they" have lost the finished exams (!!!!) and reversed the results (yes, you read correctly) on several exams.
All this under the auspices of a Justice Dept approved exam - and of course, under the reign of King Richard II. More proof that the Daley Gang controlled DC Dems as well as the State of Chicago!!

With 28 years on the Job and 4600 hours on the books, I'm going for it just to cash out at Sergeant's pay. As "Peoples" would say on the movie Shaft, "Eaziest money you'll ever make!"

Original poster thanks you for that advice. However, knowing myself I would have pissed the money off month by month.
I still don't understand how the FTO exam was graded onsite. We all took the exam and had our results same day. Sgt exam takes months to score?
808, I seriously hope U scored a hundred plus. I totally get your point. How dare they show their bullshit faces, lol at them.
"Lots of asshole drivers out there. As the test results will show, to the drivers that think they are, you're not smarter than everyone else by cutting the single file line. You're just a complete douchebag.
Been following the rules my entire career... sorry that I passed you while simultaneously flicking you off but if the exempts on this job taught me anything is you have to want it more than the other guy and playing by the rules is for the birds."
You make a point.

Any comments from those who completed the exams? Legit? Difficult?
12/14/2019 06:58:00 PM
Chicago: legit=impossibility in itself.
Were there two different versions of the exam? Because my answer sheet looked a lot different than the guy next to me.
12/14/2019 03:04:00 PM
That's weird, my test looked exactly like the girl's that sat next to me! Hell it was so close that I almost copied her name as well! Thanks sweetie...
MERit aint gone.
its in the contract and LORI aint giving up a damn thing.
The next supe still has a banked of UNused merit spots if not used in a round of promotion.
The mayor will use those when the next class of Sgt's from new test are finished.
Expect special Ed kid/ Prick wrinkle driver who crashes county cars and a few others.
LORI still needs to make the Alderman happy and a little promotion like SGT is worth the price.

Tell these exceptional officers to study harder
The test was too easy. I guess they are dumb-ing it down instead of using merit.
Dear officers
I’m going to let you in on a secret. once again you all were duped, as usual the dept started the misinformation of the low number of officers signing up for the test in hopes of getting more to signup, then many thinking they had a better chance to get promoted took the bate and paid the 25.00 fee.
The fact is the city needed the higher number of officers to sign up because they paid a Guarantee to the company doing the testing, the fee you paid was paid directly To CPS. If a set number of people did not sign up and pay that 25.00 fee, then the city would be on the hook and would have to pay the remainder of the void. It was a back door guaranteed incenttive for the company
And the second part is the city can fend off lawsuits if the number is higher vs let’s say 200 pp taking the test.
One last thing, open your mind and the truth will set you free. Do you ever remember paying for parking to take a promotional exam prior to mayor Rahm? You cops are smart figure it out!
Never trust anyone that works for the city and has a white shirt with anything greater then a chevron. TRUTH !
Signed,
Willbe Firedifexposed
make the police officers take entrance exam again , all those cps students that scored 60% and were promoted over others because each class needed 25% cps graduates
there would be very few cps graduates on cpd
The city made over 100k from you parking at a location that has no free parking anywhere within a half mile! It’s all legit

They may be exceptional street cops but if they don’t know the law, directives, etc then they have no business being managers

Great advise. That’s exactly what I did and not only this year has the S & P 500 but for many years even taking into the few years it was down. Not bragging, but this year my account has been up well over the $80, 000 I collect for my pension
One caution though. Be very careful which financial advisor you pick. Most specialize in a specific industry and guide your investments in that direction. They love insurance companies and annuities which come with a high upfront cost or a high early withdrawal penalty.

Beck will be gone in a month or two. He has nothing to say about merit after that time. It’s what the new guy says, not Beck

I hope BecK make 70 percent the passing number. If you score below a 70 you shouldn’t be promoted. We have too many incompetent supervisors due to merit and the low curve
CFD was just sued last week because they set a passing requirement and tomorrow they are going to promote I believe it’s chiefs who didn’t pass the test. Court hearing set for Tuesday , the day after the promotions. I know they were trying to get an emergency injunction to stop the promotions Friday but don’t know what happened in court

12/15/2019 12:14:00 AM
I just don’t understand why people don’t understand what Beck said. He never said merit is gone. He said HE won’t promote any merits and he HOPES his replacement won’t either. He has no say in what his replacement will do. I’m sure the new guy will be asked what his view is on merit promotions during the interviews for the job.

What's with the questions from you blue shirts. Ya'll needy AF!
Everything appears to be legit so just sit tight while the scores are "generated."
70 percent is a C average. If you can’t get 70 correct you shouldn’t be supervising anyone.
It’s actually a D average ......
Didn't waste my time retired best thing I have ever done, the medical pension checks make it worth it,and my blood pressure was high otj now back to normal, stress will kill you,and whenever I see that Gold star makes me and many sick, how pathetic that group is!
For 06:21 am
The department has to match up the last four digits of everybody's social security number to see who gets what score in order to generate a list. Tweeking the results takes awhile.😉
Merit is part of the contract and merit Sgts will still be promoted! Sorry guys and gals who actually studied.
It says that the City may promote UP TO 30%. Zero is included in "up to."

The city should require every merit promoted sergeant and lieutenant, who has demonstrated incompetence,or major shortcomings, to retake the promotional exams. You fail the test, you lose your appointment.

So you don't think a sergeant should have to know those things? They have to sign off on DUIs, and they could very well be first on scene of a HAZMAT.
Retiring in 24 months. Don't want to be a baby sitter, not in today's world. No thanks!!!!
Too close to retirement...fuck that shit!

Easy. You don't. Let them continue to be exceptional officers. Leave the supervising to those who can pass a test.

That is sound financial advice. It's not how much you make, it's how much you save.
Members shouldn't have to wait until they have five years on the job to attend the retirement seminar. The Department should be giving one to the recruits during their Academy training. Surely the time could be found for a one-day event that would greatly benefit the new hires. The time to start planning for the future is early in your career.
If you're attending a retirement seminar shortly before retirement, it's probably too late.
Latest information, in LA , Officers that scored under 70% were not considered for promotions.
This is good news for those that actually studied for the Sergeants Test .
Most were hoping a 50% would be passing and then receive a Merit Promotion.
Under Superintendent Beck , Mayor Lightfoot Police Officers will have to earn their promotions.

CPS. CPS student hires and Explorer's were given extra points during hiring. They know CPS student scores, I say passing Part I requires a score of at least 50%

Didn’t think you could attend the retirement seminar until you are a certain age and within so many years if being able to retire don’t think anyone with 5 years on can attend the seminar
I agree. Fair is fair. The passing score should be 70%. Too many people were hoping to get a passing score of 50% and a merit bump. Too many were crying about their other obligations instead of studying. Why reward them?
