FLOP Endorsement
As if more proof was needed that the FOP is rapidly outliving its usefulness:
- So the FOP Executive Board voted today to not endorse one of our own members for Senate, instead 12 members chose to back Rob Martwick. In case nobody remembers, Rob Martwick is close with John Arena and even applauded him for “standing up to racism in our community,” when he filed 31 false complaints against our members. In fact Rob Martwick was the one who was at the Cubs game with Arena when he demanded to park in the police lot.
Now not only is Rob Martwick an anti police progressive, who endorsed Kim Foxx, he appointed restorative justice fanatic Lindsey LaPointe to his State Representative Seat when he was appointed to the Senate. Lindsey LaPointe is also an extreme anti police politician who is currently pushing legislation in Springfield to abolish bonds and electronic monitoring.
So now after knowing all of this, 12 of our Executive Board members chose to support him over a decorated member who would actually stand up for us to all these anti police lawmakers. These board members fancy themselves policemen who get to play politician, neither of which they are good at. I’m sure if the members were surveyed, nobody would agree to endorse Martwick and his anti police crew. We shouldn’t be surprised because the same board members did this two years ago when another member was running against Martwick for State Rep.
At the core of this issue is the fact that Mark Donahue is good friends with Martwick, so Donahue gets his minions to follow. We should not have anybody on our board that supports anyone that applauds someone for filing false complaints against our members. The difference between two years ago and now is that now we have an FOP election. Everyone gets told of who to vote for and why but we also need to know who NOT to vote for and why. Well the why is because they are encouraging the anti police movement among politicians, while allowing more “restorative justice” legislation to be pushed in Springfield. So here are the board members who allow the anti police agenda to be pushed:
Anyone even remotely associated with former aldershithead Arena deserves nothing from the FOP. He registered thirty-one complaints against CPOD members based solely on their exercising their Freedom of Speech as PRIVATE CITIZENS.

There should be limits as to how long you can be at the FOP. Isn’t president three terms? Then you shouldn’t be able to be there more than 4 three-year terms, no matter what position you hold. The likes of Donahue, Dougherty, Aguilar, Bella, Caparelli, Bailey, Hauser, Trevino, and a festival of others whose names escape me at the moment, all need to go. You had your time. I’ve got 27+ on, Donahue’s been there pretty much since I started. Aguilar, Dougherty Bella....at least since the late 90’s to early 2000’s, and they submarined Shields when he was president. I’ve voted against all of them for years and theyre still there. Fucking go away already. If you’re retired, go enjoy the rest of your life. Go travel. Move out of state. One thing I’ll always remember about Martwick and Arena is that they both sent out the most glossy mailers right before the elections. I must have gotten 20 to 30 each every time there was an election. They must use the same strategist as both their flyers had the same theme. They support law enforcement, they support senior citizens, they support education, they support clean air & water. Yea bla bla bla! But nothing specific. Same old Democrat talking points that our low information voters fall for every time. But the other part of the mailer was just filled with the lies and smears about the candidates they were running against. And to really scare the voter they would say that person is a Republican or is a Trump supporter as if that was the worst thing you could ever do. That’s their speciality. There has been a study on those political mailers and it was found that they are most effective form of gaining votes than of any other means.
As for the FOP endorsement, they should ashamed of themselves. There will be two retiree votes in this household against them and against Martwick.

SCC-Thank you for confronting this unpleasant issue. I'm sure it will spark some nasty comments which will call for "killing the messenger." Why has FOP endorsed politicians such as Lisa Madigan (proponent of the Federal Court consent decree)? It appears to be the machinations of our self proclaimed Legislative Action Director, former President Mark Donahue. This jackass also receives a FOP salary while supporting the anti police politicians like Arena and Black Lives Matter thugs working for Kim Foxx.
Current President Kevin Graham should remove Donahue from the FOP payroll if he has any desire to continue his floundering presidency. Retaining Donahue would only be shooting ourselves in the foot. Perhaps a current FOP member can raise this issue at the next Lodge meeting.

FOP is just a reflection of the CPD: Nepotism, Cronyism, and a friends and family network. If you're a nobody and call there for any assistance in any matter, you can expect to be brushed aside. I was told that everyone who SUPPORTED O'Toole (CPD) is on Vision 2020 Team.
I also heard that Graham did a sloppy job of counting and it was really 6 people who had their hands raised supporting the copper: H. Brown, F. Flores, D. Gorman, J. Jackstavich, M. Mette, J. Capperalli. M. Mette requested a rollcall vote but Graham denied it.
M. Donahue would of tried to give Martwick the endorsement but enough people blocked it with the "very qualified" for both guys.

They are assuring that they get government jobs for an added pension when they give up or even make sure they can get government jobs for spouses etc. That has been FOP since it was voted in as the bargaining agent for the CPD.
In response to the "Dirty Dozen", Mark Donahue and Bill Dougherty have done more harm to the FOP and the pension than you could imagine. Remember when Donahue forgave the city around 20 million dollars that was owed to the pension? As a board member myself, I'm embarrassed what goes on at our board meetings. Shameful best describes them.
To you young officers reading this, Donahue and Dougherty are hooked up with the 19 Ward and Mike Madigan. This is a fact. They are both seasoned liars, especially Donahue.
The bottom line is this; if you want change in the FOP, start by giving these two "politicians" the boot!

Retired officer here. I never understood the FOP endorsements for the entire length of my career. Seems like they rarely endorsed candidates that I would vote for. Or that the membership would vote for. Thanks SCC for that list. What a bunch of useless do nothings who show up at districts and units every few years looking for a vote. Then you never see them again. The membership doesn't appear to be well represented here, and that may be an understatement. I decided when I retired, to no longer be associated with the Lodge. I have always felt that somehow these politicians that were endorsed against all logic, and somehow were pulling the strings of the Lodge. So, I pulled my dues. Seems anything remotely related to the city of Chicago is doomed to failure, and corrupted from within. The FOP is like an onion. The more you peel back, the more it stinks. So, you young guys and gals, vote for turnover at every election. Do not keep the same people in the lodge. Just my .02

My belief is that someone like Ray Casiano has the experience of serving in an administration where he gave up some of his extra salary to show he wasn’t in it for the money...that alone speaks highly of a persons character and demeanor. He is also the only one who voted against sending our contract negotiations to arbitration. He isn’t perfect nor is anyone else, but I do believe he will fight for the members. We live in a day where VRI, VRE or any other OT officers can get is appreciated and needed. That being said, money is the root of all evils...he was promised high paying jobs while serving as VP of the prior FOP administration and he turned them down. His interest isn’t politically motivated, he’s a former Marine who understands the importance of commaraderie, troop welfare and standing up for what is just for the members. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and this one is mine. Either way, we need to vote to have a voice. By the way I have never seen anyone in the current administration visit a district over the last 4 years! Apparently social media takes precedence over human interaction nowadays.

Anyone on the board who voted in support of Martwick must be voted out! Can they provide any reason why they support Martwick over a member of FOP? Why does the FOP board vote in secrecy when they select a political candidate to support? Let the membership make the decisions. I can check their backgorunds but instead look at their current actions. Absolute bullshit to support martwick.

If these people are willing to back direct enemies of police officers, do you really think they're going to have your best interest in mind when it comes to you getting sued, or fired, or us getting raises ect? They may as well be our enemy themselves. You don't have to overthink anything, you hardly have to think at all. FOP Lodge 7 has never had our backs. I would say decertify but overall the FOP isn't so bad. The people that want the President job is ONLY doing it for the money. They don't care about the troops. They are over paid and they should have a lower salary. They should should do the job because they want to do the right thing and not do it for the money. I'm sure most of you won't understand this, but politics makes strange bedfellows. Sometimes you have to side with the person who is in the position to help you most. Maybe Martwick made some bad decisions, but he is going to remain in his elected position with or without an FOP endorsement.
The job of every elected member on the FOP board is to do what is best for ALL members of the FOP and that is exactly what they did. Like it or not we are going to need this guy when legislation hits Springfield that we are for or against. He has always supported us there.
And by the way, get your facts straight. The FOP did not endorse either candidate in this race. Both candidates were classified as Qualified.

Nobody did more for FOP members than Donahue while he was president. Nobody has done more for FOP members since.
While president this Lodge became solvent. His predecessors kept this Lodge in debt that they never intended to get out of. The Lodge building was paid off within the first three years of his first term. He was able to garner more pension benefits than anyone before or after him. He got premium free healthcare for retirees. He got a work schedule changed from 6-2 to 4-2. He got sworn affidavits, got rid of the roundtable for officer involved shootings where an officer had to give a statement within two hours of the shooting. He got duty availability. I could go on, but you should have gotten the picture by now.
After his presidency, he became a lobbyist for the Lodge and still is today. He we works exclusively for the Lodge meaning there is not any conflict of interest for him. Most lobbyists have several clients and play both sides of the fence. He has kept the board of directors in the know when it comes to any legislation that can effect police officers either positively or negatively.
It's really too bad that someone thought a term limit was the only way to prevent another Bill Nolan. The FOP isn't fucked up because of Donahue. It's fucked up because of the term limit which led to the people that followed him; Shields, Angelo, and Graham. The voters have always had the ability to put a term limit on anyone by voting them out. They never voted Donahue our for a reason. He was best we ever had.

FOP only has one board meeting a month and one general meeting. As long as I can remember the Board meeting is always the 1st week of the month and the General meeting the 3rd week. How hard is it to plan your vacations around two meetings a month?
But if they were there O’Toole would not have picked up any more votes. You see these guys are all on the same ticket with Donahue.

As a loyal member of the FOP for the past 24 years I finally have had enough. I know several of the names on this list, some are work acquaintances, others are (or were) friends, and no matter who was in charge or on the Board, I always went along with what they were doing by blindly believing that they had the best interest of me, and the CPD as their primary goal. Over the years this belief has been slowly chipped away and, for me, it has finally come to a head.
This is the second election in a row that the FOP has defied current members seeking Office by not supporting those who have our best interest at heart, whom at their core serve and protect this City and have decided to put their names out there and do more. I am flabbergasted after these candidates toed the line and walked the beat with me and other loyal CPD members to learn that they did not receive support form the FOP.
If you cannot support Sgt Daniel O'Toole and you are a member of the FOP Election Committee you should just resign now. How in the world you did not bring an unanimous decision to support O'Toole over Martwick (Donahue bestie) just proves a nasty rumor that has been spread, you are in the FOP for yourselves, not for US, the members. From what I have seen and read it's just another example of these guys being out for themselves. Kind of funny the FOP folks running always hand the members a line of crap just like the democrats hand their voting base. Some of the New York City cops complain about their union but it still seems much stronger than in Chicago. If the FOP thought they were going to be dumped then maybe they would take a stronger stance. Until then, until a show of mass anger, people overflowing at the meetings, things will remain the same. Members think things won't change so they don't bother to go to the meetings. That mindset is why Groot won the office of mayor. And do they really need that many people, how much is that costing every year?

I'm going to play devil's advocate here. I do not agree with the endorsement of martwick but I am also 100% positive that I have yet to see one police officer who decided to run for office it is truly qualified to do so.
Just like everybody else they sit there and complain and they say they will introduce real change. there is no more generic thing to say than that. If you give me a police officer, or anyone else for that matter, that has a definitive plan, a backing, and a real strategy then I will endorse and vote for them, but until then just being a policeman does not get my endorsement or vote.
Just standing on a soapbox and telling me that you serve the community as a police officer doesn't mean anything more than a 20-year neighborhood grocer, or garbage man, or a lifetime resident of the neighborhood for that matter.

My belief is that someone like Ray Casiano has the experience of serving in an administration where he gave up some of his extra salary to show he wasn’t in it for the money...that alone speaks highly of a persons character and demeanor. He is also the only one who voted against sending our contract negotiations to arbitration. He isn’t perfect nor is anyone else, but I do believe he will fight for the members. We live in a day where VRI, VRE or any other OT officers can get is appreciated and needed. That being said, money is the root of all evils...he was promised high paying jobs while serving as VP of the prior FOP administration and he turned them down. His interest isn’t politically motivated, he’s a former Marine who understands the importance of commaraderie, troop welfare and standing up for what is just for the members. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and this one is mine. Either way, we need to vote to have a voice. By the way I have never seen anyone in the current administration visit a district over the last 4 years! Apparently social media takes precedence over human interaction nowadays.

Thanks to SCC for this post, if only because Officers are now aware of the issue prior to the ballots going out. However, it will be wise to ascertain the facts, and even wiser to understand that Martwick could be a friend insofar as the pension is concerned. Among my fondest wishes is for all of you great young (and not so young) Officers to navigate your careers, finish in one piece, and enjoy retirement as much as I am currently doing. No politician is your friend anyway, and they are mostly there to make the job more difficult for us. None of that really matters as long as the pension fund is secured, and and whatever else Martwick votes for or against does not concern me. As for Mark Donahue, he is paid less per hour that most Officers despite his extra income, and no one has done more to save the pension fund. He has also been the police his whole career, and if you think otherwise, go to a meeting and tell him as much to his face. Being the gentleman he is, nothing is likely to happen to you as a result. It cannot be stated too strongly...VOTE!

You are really one screwed up dude. The Board meeting is always held on the first Tuesday of the month. Graham changed it with less than a week's notice.
As to Murray and Aguilar, the Board voted to adhere to the bylaws of the Lodge and pay them what is required. If they didn't you'd be bitching about that too. Just what the fuck does anybody's pension have to do with how much they get paid at a job anywhere? Any retiree has earned his pension after contributing for 30 plus years. If you decide to go work for Microsoft after you retire should you get paid less than someone else doing the same job just because you're already getting a pension? Now STFU! Endorsing Goofioretti who does not pay his campaign staff and had an ex felon (vote fraud) for a campaign manager will surely insure foxxS victory. Goofioretti is only running to raise money. Honestly, most of you people don't have a clue as to what goes on at FOP. Someone tells you some bullshit and you perpetuate it.
Nobody did more for FOP members than Donahue while he was president. Nobody has done more for FOP members since.
While president this Lodge became solvent. His predecessors kept this Lodge in debt that they never intended to get out of. The Lodge building was paid off within the first three years of his first term. He was able to garner more pension benefits than anyone before or after him. He got premium free healthcare for retirees. He got a work schedule changed from 6-2 to 4-2. He got sworn affidavits, got rid of the roundtable for officer involved shootings where an officer had to give a statement within two hours of the shooting. He got duty availability. I could go on, but you should have gotten the picture by now.
After his presidency, he became a lobbyist for the Lodge and still is today. He we works exclusively for the Lodge meaning there is not any conflict of interest for him. Most lobbyists have several clients and play both sides of the fence. He has kept the board of directors in the know when it comes to any legislation that can effect police officers either positively or negatively.
It's really too bad that someone thought a term limit was the only way to prevent another Bill Nolan. The FOP isn't fucked up because of Donahue. It's fucked up because of the term limit which led to the people that followed him; Shields, Angelo, and Graham. The voters have always had the ability to put a term limit on anyone by voting them out. They never voted Donahue our for a reason. He was best we ever had.

The best contract I've ever had in my 21yrs on the job was under Donahue.

Another huge problem is that our members don't bother to attend the FOP meetings. Then they hear rumors and innuendo and perpetuate it on this blog. Go to the meetings and get the facts! Too many low information, and uninformed members out there. Our FOP leaders are a joke, and may be in the bag for corrupt politicians. The FOP meetings should have standing room only and the elected members should be encouraging more and more member to appear, but they don't. U know why? Cuz it's working for them. Many members on this blog have valid ideas, but posting on SCC is all they do. Go to an FOP meeting, and you will see how screwed the pooch really is. If they hear enough griping on political endorsements, maybe they will change their tune. In fact tell them so at the meetings!
I'm retired and no longer a member and will be moving out of state. I went to FOP meetings early on and learned that Bill Nolan and his henchmen were no friends of the rank and file police. I remember him telling us that the contract that his crew brought (under Daley) was the best deal for the member ship we were gonna get. We voted that contract down resoundingly and went to arbitration, and got a better deal. That was the last time I remember all of us being united. It was empowering to say the least.
Go to the meetings once in a while, and speak up. They cant stop you from doing that.
There is about 5 or 10 guys on this post that keep slamming the fop over and over. they're attempting to run for office. They dont have a record or a platform so they continually slam the current FOP administration. Anyone that wants an explanation of the facts will get them.
Remain calm.
Being deemed well qualified instead of a straight endorsement is not the end of the world.
Maybe the mayor was correct with her description of the FLOP individuals?
