3-1-1 Moving?

Interesting rumor:
  • Tho no official word, heard from numerous po’s, 311 sworn will be taking calls from Academy starting Friday. Construction workers been working round the clock to get’r done.

    Answers PLEASE
    1) has entire academy been disinfected?
    2) how do we know these workers aren’t infected or intentionally infecting area?
    3) any truth to this virus having ability to flow thru air duct systems?
So Alternate Response is infected, though the City won't admit it?

311 is probably infected...but the reason they are moving everyone out is to move calltakers over there since OEMC is infected. They are trying to distance them but its too late. At this point i think every city dept is going to be going down.

"3) any truth to this virus having ability to flow thru air duct systems?"

RUMOR CONTROL - It can but that is not the main risk. In most situations, the air duct is not the highest risk way to get the bat soup virus.

"But in fact, it can travel through the air and stay suspended for that period of about a half-hour.

The virus does not linger in the air at high enough levels to be a risk to most people who are not physically near an infected person. But the procedures health care workers use to care for infected patients are likely to generate aerosols."

SOURCE:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/17/health/coronavirus-surfaces-aerosols.html

A good HVAC system has a strong filter and a great one has a UV light also which can and does kill a virus.

You can buy a UV-C lamp to put near air duct outflows as well... No need to have one that costs as much as these do however. A $50 or less one will do the task.

Bank on it. The leaking and rusted ventilation system has not been cleaned one time since it was built in 1980. Like the 001 district the t/d was built on a old toxic waste dump from the 1930". 001 was another toxic site with toxins and chemicals all the way to the bedrock. This is prior to this current dreaded virus. The heating sources of both building have not been checked and cleaned since they built these pits. Same with Homan sq., the worse of them all.
No haz-mat people would go near their furnaces or a/c units.
The bug mayor and all the former ones for decades could care less.

SCC: NO! COVID-19 is NOT like the Legionnaires Disease. It's not an 'air borne' virus.

This WAS my area of expertise before I retired. 42+ Years in Drafting, Design, Project Management, Estimating (Chief Estimator), until finally, I opened my own CAD Company preparing Installation Drawings (aka Blueprints ;-)) for Ventilation Companies, before retiring.

I'll be back later with more info, I just woke up, so kindly excuse any spelling / grammar errors.

Governor Pritzker has declared a crisis in Illinois citing a shortage of needed ventilators and experienced pharmaceutical professionals. President Donald J. Trump has assembled a team of Doctors, infectious disease specialists, scientists, private sector manufacturers and the like taking a scientific approach to combat the Coronavirus.

Governor Pritzker’s response is to utilize social justice. The “experts” in his circles include Lori “Federal Prosecutor” Lightfoot, Tom “Pizza man” Dart, Kim “The criminal defender” Foxx and Cook County Cheap Judge Tim Evans. The plan is to let ventilation experts and community based pharmaceutical entrepreneurs out of the County Jail after failing to post the required free no cash bonds and to be set free at last.

The pharmaceutical entrepreneurs can distribute fentanyl based medicines throughout the communities relieving the pain and suffering. Their experience with criminal justice experience in the social justice model is priceless. Ventilation experts include murderers, gun law violators and human target shooters. HeyJackass has 85 permanent ventilations and
476 recovering from human ventilations to date. Are Scientists and doctors a solution to solve the pandemic or the democrat response to a pandemic releasing gangstas, thugs and smugglers as a social justice remedy to a viral outbreak a real world solution?

Joe Biden was right. Middle class lunch bucket Joe stated that the Coronavirus cure “will make the problem worse no matter what” in his interview on The View. He was absolutely right. The democrat response in Chicago will most certainly lead to higher death rates and require more stretchers and more hospital trauma beds.

Studies show it can live in aerosol form (someone sneezes) for 3 hours. So yes a real risk. That’s why the airlines have done such a careful job of making sure their HEPA filters are clean and replaced regularly between flights.

Virus can make its way through air ducts. It’s alive in the air for up to 3hrs. That’s how the cruise ships got infected because the ventilation system was circulating the infected air.

We have not, nor will we ever, claim that the virus is going to "kill us all" as you state. We also haven't "bought into" the media BS. We're intelligent human beings.

That being said, it's only sensible to take precautions to prevent the spread of something that will temporarily disable a sizable portion of the population including First Responders.

No. It’s not an airborne disease. It can live in an areasol form when sneezing but will not stay suspended and travel in the air. It will immediately fall from the air to the ground or a surface but can then live on that surface for anywhere to 3 hours -10 days depending on the surface.

And, you read this where exactly? Stop spreading false rumors. If that was the case the entire ship would have gone down sick. Just very close contact with a lot of people most of the time caused that infection

The head of the cdph is playing a dangerous game of being the good little political water girl, saying many falsehoods about mitigating the chances of getting the virus. The fact that she said you could spend 10 minutes talking to someone at close proximity who has the virus and not get infected is criminal. The other major issue they are dancing around is hvac systems, can this virus be transmitted through them. The answer is yes, but the cdph is saying no no no, you are good. I would like to invite city hall and all of the 5th floor at HQ to join the swat team guarding the hotel full of infected people. And take deep long full breaths while they are there. Then after a full tour there, go home and hug your elderly parents and their kids.

Moving ARP temporarily to create distance?
Every multi merit is tossing their hair-brained ideas out there and into the pot.
Real estate that large is scarce, could be is that chunk of land is needed for something else and the Academy is just a temporary location until both 311and Acad are sold off to residential developers.
Did Larri put a slow down on hiring, maybe even a freeze because it was an issue for the $1 billion budget shortfall.

That Academy (low bid) ventilation system is horrible, always has been.
If they “fix” or clean anything like they fix water, plumbing and sewer line leaks then it’s pretty much they’ll just spread the germs and grime around.
If it’s a private contractor, doing any of this work then it’s being done expensively and on time.
If it’s City General Services doing the job, it will be ready by late summer.

Maybe ARP is just to big and needs a trimming, there are better ways to manage those sequestered and put more supervisors on the streets. But that could be said about CAPS too.

The corona virus is about 5 millionths of an inch in diameter. That's far smaller than the average carpenter's dust mask can filter out.

Technically it's not an airborne virus in that most transmission is via inhaling a droplet of mist from an infected person. But it is possible for a droplet to get sucked into an air handling system. Typically it would be filtered and recirculated as in a Biosafety level 3 setup. This also includes managing the airflow in and out of a room by taping all seams around windows, floors, walls and ceilings.

Virus-free "safety" gets expensive. The first step is to decide how safe is safe enough? Seatbelt? Seatbelt and shoulder harness? Seatbelt, shoulder harness and airbags? Or all of those plus a roll cage?

--{continuation from previous Post}--

Again, this COVID-19 is not an 'Air Borne' Virus. There's a difference between a virus attaching to 'water droplets' (aerosol) in the air that's from a sneeze or cough and attaching to molecules of air. That's why the Six Foot Spacing is being recommended by all the experts -- CDC NHS, etc.

Now, I'm going to try to keep this as simple as possible but as to Forced Air Ventilation Systems in building HVAC systems, there's two basic types; Commercial & Residential. In either one, the question would be; HOW would contaminated air get into the duct system in the first place?

-- With Commercial Systems, Outdoor Air (OA) comes in via Exterior Wall Louvers & by City Code the bottom of the louvers have to be 12 Ft above grade, aka street level. THAT alone is barrier #1 preventing contamination by the Virus. (NOTHING Mentioned thus far says the Virus can travel like this in the air, surfaces have to be contaminated).

::::: The OA (outdoor air) is then mixed with the Return Air (RA) in a 'Plenum' (Metal Box), it all then goes through the Filter system. Commerical Filters have between a 20% & 30% 'efficiency' (They're not HEPA Filters, those are for specialized systems, like Hospitals, but much better than Residential types). Now, IF the virus has made up & past the louvers and to the filters, the virus would attach itself to the filter media (material).
::::: The RA (Return Air) in Commercial Building Systems is accomplished by ductwork connected to 'Grilles' or 'Registers' in Room Ceilings -- 8' to 10' above the floor. Here again, the distance is more than the 6' the FedGov experts say the Virus can travel in the air. So logically, this air can't be contaminated. The RA travels thru ductwork back to the Air Handling Unit (AHU) 'Mixing Plenum'. (See OA above)
::::: The SA (Supply Air) in Commercial Building Systems is via a duct system that terminates in building rooms with a Supply Air 'Diffuser' in the ceiling. Small rooms have 1, larger rooms 4. Exterior rooms might have 'Slot Diffusers' abv exterior windows.
::::::: When the OA & RA is mixed and is drawn through the Filters, it then goes through Heating Coils & Cooling Coils, from there it goes into the AHU Supply Fan and discharged throughout the SA duct system ref'd above.
::::: Supply, Return and Outside Air Ductwork -- Except is specialized areas all ductwork is made of Galvanized Sheetmetal. SA Duct Systems 'typically' have a bare inside (metal) and thermal insulation is applied to the exterior of the duct. RA duct systems 'typically' have the interior covered with 'duct lining' for sound attenuation, 1" thick fiberglass held by glue & mech 'pins'. Supply ducts can get lining too, depends on the specs.
----- Once again we're talking about interior surface amounts in sq ft that any ACTIVE virus that survived this journey would have attached itself to sit there, decay and die.

In conclusion. While nothing is impossible, you have a bigger chance of Dying by Lightning Strike than a contaminated Commercial Duct System.

ps: Residental Systems are naturally much simpler. Return Grilles can be mounted low in a Wall, and Supply 'Registers' are Floor Mounted in 'most' cases, but the principle is the same. Let common sense & cleanliness prevail.

pps; Cruise Ships & Airplanes aren't just different animals, they're in different universes. Cruise Ships are notorious for spreading diseases -- they're floating Petri Dishes (I'd never go on one). And Planes are an enclosed space w/ an enclosed system. But in BOTH I'd say surface contamination is the biggest worry.

Virill aren't truly alive; they require hosts. That being said, there are certain time limits depending on conditions and the virii concerned that are applicable. Obviously, the cleaner that better. Bleach is a typical cleaning agent. What we wish to do is to keep surfaces clean and dry so as to minimize the 'lifespan' of the virii. Water and organic matter can be expected to expand the time frame of the its existence. If this were an aggressive pathogen, like say Hanta, then wearing respirators would be needed. What is really needed now are proper cleaning procedures to be done. Which people have a way of not doing generally. The things that our grandparents (who lived before antibiotics) took as gospel. A/C is an example. If filters aren't regularly replaced then A/C is worse than useless. This so-called pandemic is more political than medical, but is still a wake-up that sloppy procedures are dangerous and public health needs are all our concerns. And Emergency services are getting the short end of the stick, as usual.

Covid 19 can still survive your “current hand sanitizer” from the fop and that fact shouldn’t change your vote (either candidate). Here is a tip, after every job relocate anywhere for proper Hand washing and decon. Covid 19 is .0125 microns while the N95 mask will only filter to .3 microns. Meaning the virus must attach itself to something (water, bodily fluid, food...etc) for it to protect you. Best bet is a hospital with a good supply of gloves and soap. With that said, it’s almost inevitable for you to be exposed to the virus itself. Remember, your gas mask will protect you from Bio, chem and rad warfare. Now ask yourself how long it’s been you’ve been avoiding all those messages to get refitted. Take responsibility and adapt. Stop blaming everyone else like the rest of the sheep. Family first, brother in blue right next to you.
