Hotels?

  • The city of Chicago is considering making hotel rooms available to homeless people during the coronavirus crisis to try to prevent the spread of the disease among that particularly vulnerable population.

Homeless services providers were informed of the city’s emergency planning during a webinar presentation Friday conducted by officials from three city agencies.

Several California cities have taken steps toward using hotel rooms to house the homeless during the crisis.

Chicago officials are exploring the availability of other facilities that could be used temporarily to get homeless people off the street or out of crowded shelters.
If only we had the owner of a giant hotel chain running things in this third-world state who wasn't making any money because all the convention business had dried up. But then again, this looks like it could be a violation of any Emoluments Clause in the State Constitution.

Cost to the City is going to be interesting...

I've been hearing numbers between 1k and 2k.

Figure the cheapest at 75 - 100 a night. 15 days per isolation case, single per room.

Dirty math estimate is 3m minimum.

If you house them in hotels, youre gonna need rules, no drugs, no alcohol, no crazy shit. Plenty of them have that offer from families and shelters now.
They are addicts. The reason they are out on the street is because intoxication is more important than shelter. Putting them up in hotels is only spreading the misery to someplace else that will need to be rehabbed when you get them out, if ever.

Once you understand that everyone does not think the same or have the same values, the easier your life becomes.

Just what you want to see when you are a business person or traveler who for whatever reason has to stay in downtown Chicago. They are paying hundreds of dollars for a room and then be surrounded by homeless people crawling with critters and shooting up in the hallways. I would advise those travelers to skip any elevator rides, the pool/spa/workout room and the continental breakfast. This is the dems way of leveling out the playing field, mix the haves with the have nots. You can’t get away from it. What could go wrong? 018 & 001 will be spending a lot of time in those hotels!

Who's going to pay for:

* Prying the homeless fuck out of the room after this pandemic passes?

* Paying for the food, etc. for the homeless occupying the room?

* Cleaning and restoring the room that will be totally wrecked by the lunatic homeless?

* The inevitable lawsuits that will ensue because something will get missed by Vanecko Cleaning Co. and someone will get bedbugs, scabies, lice, or worse?

They're homeless - let them stay in their box or put them in a mental institution.

If you look at any predictive models for a disease like this, and factor in the complete lack of precautions being taken by the department, then add in the number of confirmed cases. By next week there will be more than 500 members of cpd infected, who will continue to infect others. The forced proximity, the mandatory swiping, and the complete lack of protocol for stopping the spread of this virus will cripple this dept in 2 weeks. Combine that with the release of prisoners in county, and the killing season will begin early. Load up all your magazines people, you will need it.

Any hotel will need to be closed for a complete renovation after the homeless move on.

Unfortunately most will just return to the street, because no one will take advantage of the opportunity to counsel and get these poor mentally challenged and drug addled people the real help they need. This could be a great chance to break the cycle when these homeless are thrown into a brand new environment away from the streets.

I have sympathy for the homeless and see this "plan" talked about to be a money grab for connected hotels indeed. After the virus scare subsides, those same homeless are back on the streets. The taxpayer foots the bill for a few weeks of sheltering the homeless in a hotel to what long term effect?

What has changed? Even worse, what if the tax payers get looped into footing this type of bill next "crisis"? This can go on and on and on...

The nasty outcome? Tent cities like in LA and other parts of Commie California. That would be really fucked up. They did half measures (at first) to house their homeless short term and their aide programs bottomed out and the homeless population exploded for reasons in line with the direction Illinois is heading in.

I am shocked Yoga for the Homeless during the virus mania has not been proposed, with tax payers footing that bill, already. Yoga can help one get healthy after all. Does Pritzker not own a yoga studio?

Just a fast update... a N95 mask means it is 95% likely to stop most transmission through it. That stoppage is under certain conditions mind you. Idiots who say the masks keep you safe totally are wrong. That is incorrect data. Masks work but there is no complete magic barrier.

95% is way better then nothing or then a simple painter's mask/dust mask but the notion a mask (even N95) equals full protection is a false idea some still are told.

Most masks on hand for most of the population are, of course, NOT N95 masks. Just know the equipment and know what it does not do.

A CHA buildings heat in 018 went out in the winter a while back and it was going to take a while to fix it. The city in it's wisdom put the residents up in a hotel in Lincoln Park. They got free meal chits as well.
To say that crime went up exponentially in the surrounding area would be an understatement. Recover stolen cars were found in the area almost immediately. Calls for shoplifting, and vandalism and burglary increased as well.
The hotel staff had their hands full with drug use and property damage, and calls for police service. Loud boisterous self entitled CHA residents became the norm.

++++ 'But then again, this looks like it could be a violation of any Emoluments Clause in the State Constitution.' ++++

As Henry Gibson's 'German Soldier' character used to say while peeking from behind a potted-plant on Rowen & Martin's Laugh-In: 'Veeeery Interesting'.

So being the curious kind, I moseyed over to Wiki and read Governor Fat-ass's Bio. Well Boyz & Girlz, lo-and-behold, the Tax-Dodging prick hasn't divested himself from ANY of his businesses or holdings. Now if 'memory serves'(/s), that includes the Hyatt Hotel chain.

Which is kind of ironic, as I 'also seem to recall'(/s) a gaggle of democrat politicians going ape-shit over our President owning a couple of Hotels and they tried to sue his ass off in Federal Court for violating the Constitution, even after the POTUS turned 100% control of them, along with all his other companies, over to his two sons to operate. Thankfully, the case came before a judge who could read and the case was dismissed for 'Lack Of Standing' (Legal Term for: 'Stop wasting my time').

Anywhoooo, I'm sure, no, I'm positive, that Chicago's Midget Mayor will not - NOT - even think of sheltering any Homeless in scores of empty Hyatt Hotel Rooms that Gov Fat-ass and family are losing millions of dollars a week on, due to all the Wuhan Virus Cancellations.

But!.. if by some slim chance, that did somehow happen, that she -- being a Federal Prosecutor in a 'past life' -- had absolutely no knowledge of, didn't approve of, and it had to have been done by a lowly subordinate for which there will be 'a reckoning'.

Hey, it's Chicago, NO, they won't be Fired, they'll be 'reckoned with' to wit's end!

BTW: 'Rumor Has It' that Governor Fatass is thinking of loading up his North State Parkway Mansion with hundreds of WWII Army Cots & 'donating' the 'beds' to FEMA at $200/night as make-shift Hospital Beds as a Tax Write-Off. However, first, he'd have to re-install all the Toilets he removed in a previous attempt at a Tax Scam. Again, this is only a rumor & hasn't been confirmed.

Jump on the RedLine (free) to a boarded up Michigan Avenue for a lil’ R&R at the Four Seasons or Peninsula?
We get refused an exposure report and if we stay home...a medical check.

The dowdy frump Larri was on the press conference praising the hotel and the hotel union, also praised the YMCA and Sts and Sans for their efforts. (No mention of First and second responders.) Larri did have some quick figures on cost, about a million a day. Tell me that question wasn’t prepared for her to quickly answer.

JB Pigfluenza refused to tell reporters what the cost of this Extended Stay was going to cost and nobody bothered to ask about his family’s dabblings in the hospitality industry or how it would fit in or if there were any abandoned, toilet-less mansions that could be retrofitted.

Last couple weeks Larri and JBee were not too receptive to Q&A and usually ducked after 15 mins on the podium.
Looks like they’re upping the public relations with fielding some selective prescreened questions.
Larri still bashing the President DJT for the City being unprepared, (spending Fed disaster funds on frivolous sanctuary programs and not supplies) but then says we are fully prepared, then diverts and dodges the PPE shortage reports (by us) and says we have plenty and strongly denied any shortage of PPE.

BTW - Is the Zanzibar still open in old Fillmore, think it was on Sacramento and around Madison?

Free room and board, chicago pays $175/night. So ripe for abuse it's comical, and yes, impossible to evict (short of legit arrest and removal) due to eviction laws and relaxed enforcement. And if removal occurs, lawsuit for "wrongful eviction" to follow. Why put yourself on CHA wait list if you can Live Large in Streeterville ASAP. How do you determine "exposure to Covid-19"? It's their word, period.

This is an example of an excellent egghead idea which doesn't work in a broken and corrupt city with a substantial underclass of grifters such as chicago. If I lived at Olympia Tower, I'd be freaking. And next door Neiman Marcus is filing for bankruptcy. Lightfoot has initiated the destruction of whatever elitism of Mag Mile retail and related tourism hereon, even if Covid-19 itself is contained later this year. Bye-bye tax base.

The "free hotel rooms" for the homeless has been tried in other cities. Houston tried this after Hurricane Harvey.
It always ends up as a disaster. The homeless destroy the hotel. Not just trashing the rooms and stealing everything, but actual damage to the building. When the Homeless Hotel is cleaned out, it either permanently closes or has to be completely rebuilt.

LMAO ..Chicago Clown Mayor groot put $163 million in her Chicago 2020 budget for fed refund of Chicago Fire ambulances transporting Medicaid people to hospitals..except no payment yet from Trump & only 6 months remains for Chicago's 2020 budget.. Incompetent mayor Larry lightweight at work again ..

Larry could put 1 billion dollars of monopoly money in hers/his/they/theirs budget and the alderfools would approve it, as long they thought they got their cut.

The Canadian federal government did something like this not too long ago. The government put "refugees" from other countries and very different cultures up in hotels that normally cater to a tourist or businessperson type clientele. The refugees did not mix well with the paying customers. Their kids were running amok and pushing all the buttons in the elevators. People were cooking exotic food in their rooms. Unusual people were loitering in the common spaces creating disturbances. The hotels became no-go zones for loyal customers.

Normal people are not traveling very much right now and hoteliers may jump at the opportunity to get a check from the city. The employees of these hotels should have some interesting experiences. They probably should insist on some sort of security deposit from the city.

163,000 rides for Medicare patients in 2020 to hospitals billed to the Feds from Groot. That means each ambulance would have had to transport 3,260 persons each at a $1000 a ride. Typical chicago math. Even the ambulance rides are massively over budget. Only in this political cesspool.

The vertical zoos they intend to create are going to generate a regrettable amount of legal issues. Bullshit slip and fall claims will abound, as well as all kinds of assault, sexual assault, denial of civil rights, voter registration, drug, murder and possession with either intent to deliver and/or for sale. "Fuck the police" signs will appear in the windows from time to time as dominance is established, and,,,,,someone will begin the "we ain't leaving" movement. Lets take everything we learned about high rise public housing and pretend we were born yesterday. They will take turns falling down the elevator shaft, once they fill the bottom with garbage. I'm sure this particular collection of downtrodden will surprise us all and invent new and twisted ways to fuck it all up.

If you house them in hotels, youre gonna need rules, no drugs, no alcohol, no crazy shit. Plenty of them have that offer from families and shelters now.
They are addicts. The reason they are out on the street is because intoxication is more important than shelter. Putting them up in hotels is only spreading the misery to someplace else that will need to be rehabbed when you get them out, if ever."

Got to be careful there, alcohol becomes a physical addiction, and you just can't cut-off a severe alcoholic alcohol , it can kill them. You have to cut them down gradually or use phenobarbital for a few days with monitoring

We have a keith richards-like homeless man down here in Peoria (**relax, I'm nice to the guy and always try to get him food, water, help, if needed**) that has survived everything. In true Wayne's World 2 fashion... I'd wager "conventional weapons cannot kill this man." I joked at roll call the other day we need to study his anti-bodies and produce vaccines from his amazing immune system. I do try to talk to him and offer help though, but we can't do anything when people won't accept and want to change (we know this).

Junkies don't get sick; the dope keeps the microbes at bay. If they don't OD, or get killed by the cut, it's amazing how much they can survive. The Devil takes care of His own

Do these fools realize the costs to refurbish a room post-meth lab? Everything including the drywall is replaced, with those materials taken to a hazmat qualified landfill, by hazmat teams. All very expensive. At some point these hotels might have to be torn down and rebuilt, as the individual room costs are outrageous. I've seen a million dollar write off in a Vegas off strip hotel. Figure most of the rooms will be full of vermin, add a few DIY meth cookers, maybe a serious lab here and there. Great idea Groot
