Lost in the Shuffle

Someone filed a FOIA request regarding the recently passed Part One of the Sergeants Test. We're going to type out the text here since his name is prominently displayed in the screen-cap that was sent to us and we don't know if he wants it blasted all over the place:
  • Dear [removed]

In response to the clarification of your FOIA request:

The number of candidates that sat for the Chicago Sergeant's Exam that took place in December 2019 was 3867. The number of candidates who passed the exam is 3365.

    Thank you

    Maureen
That's a pass rate of 87.02%. So either we have the smartest cops in the universe or this was the most useless test given in recent memory. Seeing who's running the place today, we're going to go with the second option.

That means there are 500 complete morons out there if you couldn’t pass that test. Study time, 1 hour. Cost, $0, score 65%.

If 100% passed the uneducated masses might suspect political chicanery was afoot.

Doesn’t look like part 2 will be given anytime soon. Maybe the department should stick to part one. Everyone with 70 or better gets made. Anyone under 70 should’n’t been allowed to go on to part 2 anyway and they most certainly shouldn’t be promoted.

or could be only the well prepared bothered to take the test. You have to really want the job these days and that could motivate people to study. There are also a lot of resources these days that tell you how to maximize your score on these kind of tests.

My guess is given the study material and the motivation to put 50 hours into it, most reasonably intelligent people with zero police experience could pass the test.

These kind of tests are not real hard and you know up front what material is on the test. If you have taken these kind of tests in the past you know how to deal with them to maximize your score.

When you consider the number of no-shows the pass rate is closer to 100%

50% was passing ! That’s an F in the real world. This was suppose to test? Now they Potentially want to do an audio recorded oral test for part 2? I better practice my sexy voice “Notify the Watch Commander”. Oops I fail. It should have been notify the watch operations lieutenant. Duh

BS!!!!!!! I know 3 people who passed who didn't study at all. One of them said there is no way on earth they got even 50% on the test. I'd be willing to bet the passing score was 40%. I know of more than 1 rumor that less than half of the testers got 70% correct. I'm sorry we have a gaggle of morons on the job. Now go back to your desk at headquarters and continue to blow smoke up your bosses behind!!

I wonder what score was considered " passing". The old school days of getting a 70% score to "pass" a test do not count anymore, not in any school and certainly not in the CPD. I have seen scores as low as 40% considered passing. THen those who had that score can go onto the next phase. Now in the past those who knew they would be merit, and it seems that the merit picks always knew in advance, did not have to even show up for part 2. I wonder how this one will work. But,I would bet that there is some sort of scheme in mind otherwise the city will never get the numbers in each race that they want and will not get the connected.

Things in the night that make you go...hmmmmmmm
Considering this city’s past, the current reality of who the “leaders” are,
their backgrounds, their previous merit bumps, as well as the SJ mantras
trying to make the police departments nationwide into baby-sitters,
guess that really isn’t surprising after all.....
Everybody gets a trophy!

The bottom score is determined by the dumbest Alderman's nephew.

What would be a better FOIA would be rank order of part ONE. So we can compare to part 2. I'd like to see which idiots scored under 50% but ranked 50 in the BS oral test.

3/20/2020 09:55:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

What they won’t break that down any further is show how many scored at the bottom 50% of that low passing grade.
Past Merit bumps always came from the bottom rungs of a Part 2 List.
How likely is it that 330 in the top 10 percentile are going to be passed over?
Could it be 50-70% scored in the high 90’s? Who knows.
Will they post a rank order list ever again?

As usual there’s no indication other than the number 3360 are now eligible to move on to the next phase or that just showing up on time for Part 2 roll call is still sufficient. Merit eligibility being redefined to appear legitimate. No one said it had to be fair, just reorganized.
Scoring is Pass/Fail, selection by a lottery....(yeah sure) or sorted to meet 21st Century consent decree community representational needs.

Again, spend all that time studying, doing the right thing, follow the rules and the conniving crooked City is still rigging the system.

There once was a time when only the upper 10 percentile were guaranteed promotion, meaning if your rank score was over 300 you weren’t getting promoted because they never dipped below that...unless of course someone had that merit bump card.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t remember in the late80’s/early 90’s if a List ever had more than 1500 eligibles (with a Passing score of better than 70% Pt.2) .

It’s all BS as usual.
There will always be a need for street Sgts but Lo Score will continue to maintain a full stock of house mouse Sgts. since they make the best house mouse Lts.

Did anyone see Eddie Johnsons son there? He didn't have the time on the job to be eligible. There are other young guys and gals that came on before him that were not eligible and were locked out of the sign up option for the test.

0150hrs second test that i have taken , I studied hard and scored a 71% , Totally agree those that scored under a 68% or 70% should not be considered for a promotion . Toss part two . Post a list by score , use scores from part 1 only . As sergeants are promoted maybe groups of 50 or less , have them take a 5 minute oral while attending sergeants training , unless they totally bomb it they get promoted . Nobody that scored under a 70% should be promoted , Think about it , you cannot get a drivers license with a score under 70% , a law degree .
Everyone received study material , some failed to prepare for the test .
Time to move on and promote from part one of the latest sergeant test .

I get the impression that you’re thinking you did well scoring a 71% after putting in the study time. I put in 30 minutes of review of some prep tests someone gave me and I score a 69%. I’d be embarrassed if I were you by your admission. Also, sorry kid, why would I put so much time into part knowing it’s a pass/fail. Save your time studying for part two.

Supposedly with the Cerveza-virus unleashing economic havoc for the city coffers, there’s a good chance both the CFD and CPD part 2 test will be cancelled. The Mayor will claim public safety and economic concerns as the reasons for promoting based on part 1 scores. The scores will be “merged” to ensure diversity. Good luck...

I Dont know anyone who scored over 80%. Most in the 60s and a few in the low 70s. I heard people with 55 say I passed to the next level and that’s all that matters. In the end, either u know it or u don’t ; it’s not a race thing where u manipulate the passing score to ensure everyone gets a crack at part 2. Is part 2 going to be fake it to make it ? It’s sad they had to lower the passing to 50%. There was no point in taking part 2 unless it’s not a certain overall final percentage. 87% of CPD officers have the “technical “ knowledge to be a Sgt where passing score was a 50%? This is the reason the Department including upper brass are morons. Embarrassing.

my score was 75% , I'm a minority and agree 100%
use scores from part one , if necessary go down to the dummies that scored 50%. in 8 years .
In 8 years , I'll be in the KMA Club , Yes ! Probably will stay until 63 but will have the option .
