Refused Exposure Report

So who are these idiots?
  • Let’s say that I’m ordered to take a prisoner to a hospital for treatment. And while at that hospital I become aware from staff that the ER has seen over 100 people for COVID-19 symptoms. Let’s say I immediately notify my Sgt of the situation and that I’m going to need both an exposure and IOD completed. Is it customary for the sergeant to punt and say he must first confer with the lieutenant? Then these two in concert decide that I need to give them a to-from report explaining why I feel said reports are justified? And that an exposure and IOD would be completed once they determined my to-from passes muster?

    Seem far fetched?

Not in a certain district that falls between 016 and 019.
We'd say do the To-From.....and lick it before submission.

Mount Sinai Hospital has told CPD to stop bringing dope-sick prisoners in for the duration of the emergency, seeing as how they're a bit busy with other actual issues. We'd suggest having a bottle of Dramamine at the Desk, but we'd probably have to buy that ourselves, too, lest Groot supply us with some that's ten-years-old.

How about stop locking up people who are dope sick? Why the fuck are you street stopping people right now? Believe me, your “spot” on the tac team is fine. And how about all the assholes writing parkers and movers right now? As if people don’t have enough to worry about. I get it. it’s our job, it’s what we were hired to do. But have a fucking heart, even if it’s for a month or 2.

Balless sergeant and lieutenant my bet merit and couldn’t take a shit without permission. No doubt the the powers that be are afraid of mass IODs and the loss of personnel for two weeks and mass decontamination of building, internal equipment and vehicles. Oh the shame of the city, not to mention the cost.

The only people in lock up should be offenders of very violent crimes or domestics. Anyone else should be immediately I-bonded, I wouldn't even bring them into station. Have Sgt's with I-Bond books, verify their identity via clear or picture ID then release on I-Bond immediately.

Exposure is for bodily fluids. IOD is self explanatory. A To-From is appropriate. Maybe a case report given the pandemic.

How about stop locking hypes up? What's wrong with some of you? Unless you have a serious felony happen in front of you or the necessary domestic arrest, you should not be locking up anyone else. Don't make unnecessary stops for a couple months. The crime will still be there when this passes

Ret. CCSPD here. In Fugitive Warrants, back in the day, CCDOC didn't run their buses on weekends, so we'd be assigned downstate pick-ups. Partner and I were given two stops, one off I-57, and one off of I-55. Made the first and swung west to pick up number two. Filled out all the paperwork, all looked OK so I signed for custody. While putting cuffs on #2, jail deputy says "Oh, by the way, he's got AIDS." When I came down off the fucking ceiling, I got on the phone to my sgt.; his response was "Do the best you can." Typical.
We put a paper mask on #2, cracked the back windows, and floored it back to 26th St.
I did a to/from that stated, in effect "We know that you don't give a fuck about us, but the liability issue with prisoner #1 could prove embarrassing and costly" (in so many words).
Only thing that changed was the desk officers were told to ask if the arrestee had any serious medical conditions.
Different department, different disease, same fucked up leadership.

just playing devils advocate though as I’ve seen officers going on medical or claiming IOD without any symptoms. I get doing the paperwork but how can you self quarantine yourself without any symptoms and without being directly exposed to someone with the virus? Many officers are trying to go IOD based on being in close proximity.

Doesn't sound like you had direct exposure to the virus. If you start showing symptoms, your to-from could be used to show that you reported it after your hospital run. That way, if you end up infected, it can be tied to that visit, and then an exposure can be done, and maybe an IOD. With no known actual exposure, no symptoms, and no reason to believe you actually have the virus, there's really no need to do an exposure or IOD at this point. Sounds like someone didn't want to do a to-from that could help document the potential exposure. Sounds even more like you're trying to weasel your way out of having to work during this shitstorm. Understandable, but you don't get a free quarantine vacation. IOD for no signs of injury or illness? How exactly does that work? Relax and stop whining. You'll have plenty of chances to get exposed to the virus. Then you can get your exposure and stay home.

I agree. You only do an IOD report if you were injured or received medical attention for the exposure. You were probably exposed to the virus but so has everyone else. If you feel sick go on the medical and quit adding further aggravation to an already difficult situation. I’m sure your lack of contributions to the daily work load won’t be missed.

Way back in the 90’s- when OHare was being overrun with
homeless junkies, OHare would pull out the bums almost daily and
run them into 016 or HQ lockup......
Turns out a bunch of the piss bums had Hepatitus.....
Bunch of us at 016 ended up with Hepatitus....
And the daily runs From Ohare were STOPPED.
So, then finally the department had to start giving the whole
department the Hepatitus shots.....
Point is.....AVOID UNDUE CONTACT.....no stops, no b.s. arrests, stay safe
and far away from unnecessary confrontations.

This is very correct, worked airport during h1n1 which was deadly, and we had no masks, gloves or anything very few coppers got sick, but then again this is a world disease the outcomes is unknown. Many will like you say weasel out and let the work fall on their brothers and sisters in blue, this is the new millennium police generation who drive the $70,000 wranglers, and their parents paid for college. How many still wear star wars jammies and have mom making them warm milk and cookies?

Bottom line look at doctors, nurses they are doing everything that their jobs require to protect and help people, and the cowards on this job who should of never took this job in the first place!

To-From because someone on the upper echelon says so.
Sgts probably getting swamped, Commander office too.
Nip it in the bud.
Same nonsense of passing the buck with the HIV, the Hep, the white powdery substance. The supervisors being lazy or unable to cope with too much to do is only half the problem, but they sure write up those spars mighty quick.

The issue and dislike of transporting sick prisoners/arrestees is age old.
First of all, Who and why is anyone still arresting and for what? And to those knuckleheads wearing non-disposable tactical gloves to manhandle prisoners. Wow.
Why is the WC approving bs arrests too. No I-Bond or RWOC? Assuming this was a felony?
What was accomplished by this arrest-transport besides a bellyache for the Sgt?
Oh - the DC needs Compstat activity, he/she might be a superstar at the next dismal meeting.
Something has to give at the District level but HQ is preoccupied with outdated strategies and solutions.

Seems the A/O is never around when a hospital clearance is needed.
County intake is likely going to be an automatic refusal when they go through the the paperwork, then it’s back to square one ping pong - back to the District lockup and wait, even when the CookCo St.Rogers refuses a bed should CookCo even think of granting a mittimus.

The Department of Groot is ill prepared as is PrickWrinkle’s County.
Either stop arresting because they’ll all claim they sickly or swear in the DSS as ad hoc county magistrates.
Dipshits in charge of CPD is age old I tell’ya. Age old.

That’s pretty stretching it. So if you go into an ER and 20 people have been in and out with influenza A or B have you done exposure reports? Treated someone with HIV do you do an exposure report just because someone was being treated there? If you go to a domestic and are in a house and someone has HIV but you don’t touch them and it’s and it’s a standard domestic do you do a exposure be use your in their presence or they live there?? No, you don’t. Same thing for every sickness out there. The ER is full of sick people every single day. When you have a detail in the past have you done an exposure? No you haven’t. They loosened the medical coverage for this and many people are trying to exploit it.

It sounds like you're afraid and plotting a two week vacation on the backs of your peers. If you are required to be in a space of less than six feet with a person is has been clinically diagnosed with COVID-19, you can then have an exposure report.
