Five months after the Chicago Police Board authorized a six-month suspension for Sgt. Khalil Muhammad, the City Council’s Finance Committee will be asked next week to authorize the settlement for Ricardo Hayes.
The City got off light on that one, as did taxpayers. When you're connected to Calypso Louie and you spend months hiding in Barb West's office after being caught lying in direct contradiction to video tape and only get 180 days suspension, blasting a mentally disabled kid is completely an inbounds-play.

Sgt. K.M. really got off light on this one. He essentially committed an aggravated battery with a handgun when he shot this unarmed mentally disabled kid and was able to avoid being arrested. He was never indicted and the case was never even presented to a grand jury. He was able to avoid the embarrassment of having to be arrested, jailed, posting bond, and having to face the "trial by media," and then ultimately losing his job and freedom, that JVD was forced to endure. K.M. still has a job and is getting paid while JVD sits in a federal prison. To anyone who believes that there isn't a double standard when it comes to police shootings is lying to themselves. Look at the most recent one on the CTA with the officers who shot the unarmed white guy. It was almost immediately swept under the rug by the media. Does anyone expect there to be an indictment by Kim Foxx's office?
