- The president of the Chicago Police Board — the mayorally appointed body that metes out discipline for Chicago Police officers — said Friday he was struck by an officer during last weekend’s protests in Kenwood.
“I, indeed, was one of several individuals physically hit and struck by Chicago police on Sunday as they clashed with protestors,” Board president Ghian Foreman said in a statement issued Friday afternoon. “I was not participating in the protest, but coincidentally encountered the demonstration at a moment when it became confrontational.”
In the statement, Foreman declined to provide specifics on what happened, but a source with knowledge of the incident said Foreman was struck in the legs with a baton about five times.
Anyone want to explain why someone who is supposed to be sitting in judgement of the police is anywhere near a protest against police? Wouldn't that destroy any sort of appearance of impartiality at any hearings he presided over? How could any Officers ever expect a fair hearing from someone who (A) housed an obvious bias that drove them to attend the march and (B) as an alleged victim of baton strikes believe that the president harbored anything but animus for the police in general?

Clout and political privilege does not exempt him/her, or any one else, inclusive of Ms Mayor herself from their obedience. Move means move no matter what title you're using.

Kind of reminds me of the story from former Attorney General Eric Holder III of him being stopped by two white policemen when he was a federal prosecutor. He told this story at a time when Ferguson was up for grabs, sort of empathizing with the rioters. No details given on the reason for the stop. Holder certainly was not wrongfully arrested nor convicted. Probably a 30 second inconvenience. But it seems he took bits and pieces so he could fashion himself the victim. Coward move by Holder. Head Law Enforcement Officer of the United States at the time who failed to stand for law and order, but instead gave a nod to the rioters.

That's a good one. I too saw people trying to stop the looters. They were good people, some store owners, some residents of the community. Each and every one attempted to reason with the mob, as you described, but were set on and attacked by the looters. USA Today publish a recent poll reporting that the public's perception of the police is dropping. I wonder why? Back in the day the media printed pictures of cops injured in riots, now they print pictures of criminals injured by the police and then blame the police.
I am a 70 year old retired copper with a lot years and with what I thought was going to be a secured pension. I am not so sure, even with two rental income, no bills and a maxed deferred comp fund. The market is down and the system, at least the one that I am in, is funded by profits from the stock market. One of renters is unable to pay rent because these fucks made her shut down her hair solon. Can't pay her rent. I wouldn't put her and her kids into the street (oh, I'm white and she is not - racists cops) so I can expect to lose that income for awhile.
Meanwhile, the political bosses back in the old town are talking about defunding the department. These same bosses are the ones who will decide if I should continue to be paid what is in any estimation is a very good pension. I think they will not, and the union doesn't (and probably shouldn't) care much about the "old timers."
Back in the day people had their day jobs in the trades and then worked nights as cops. Cops didn't make much money upfront, but there was always the promise of the secured pension, something the corrupt unions couldn't guarantee.
The cops no longer have a guaranteed pension, and the pay and working conditions suck.
So, if I had less than ten years on the job, I would be looking for something else, and you should too.
The rest of you should get out as soon as you, and start planning for how you are going to fund your retirement.

Sure, 47th looks bad, but people are there and elsewhere on ghetto businesses strips. Even so, Foreman's story is fishy. Nobody returns shoes to a store, during a riot. Being hit with a baton is a cure to leave not linger. ☹️💀

Um, no. Just like police aren’t allowed to show any political bias while in uniform (like taking a knee), a person who sits in a position of power to discipline/recommend firing of police doesn’t have the right to attend an anti-police protest. Kind of the same reason that if you get called for jury duty & the trial is for the murder of an officer, you’re not going to end up on that jury. It’s called bias dumbass.

The protests were not against police. The protests were against police brutality and excessive force and the failure to serve and protect and those POs who dishonor the badge. Not all officers fall into that category. In fact most are good and want to do follow the law and do their jobs respectful of the citizens rights and dignity. Many also want their fellow POs to honor the badge but bc there is a code of silence still dominating the force it is almost suicide for a good officer to prevent or report bad actions by officers. Start by revering the badge and not the individuals.
