- Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker is reportedly considering a proposal to license police officers, with the option to revoke a license in the event of misconduct.
According to WBBM, the idea was proposed by Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul.
“We’ve been looking hard at that,” Pritzker said Monday. “I think that you have to think about what are the methods by which people can be disciplined if they’re not going to get disciplined by their own police departments — if the investigations are taking place by a police department that may not want to hold some of their officers accountable for the kind of behavior we would all find reprehensible.”

This has been going on for the last 6 months and no training has been held. Here's the real news, Tubby, the governor just appointed 4 black police chiefs and a city manager middle-eastern woman to oversee this new training board and I am assuming Police licensing entity! The kicker is that between the five (5) maybe one (1) is qualified to oversee the effort, but none of them by far is, god forbid, overly or extremely qualified! Another way to tax you. Doctors, dentists, funeral directors, accountants, engineers and many more professions must get licenses and are regulated by the Illinois Department of Financial Professional Regulation. But the interesting thing is they have boards for each profession. So if a funeral director has a complaint against him the board is composed of funeral directors. Or accountants for accountants. They review the complaint or conduct and make the recommendations. So maybe the police should be judged by other police instead of COPA, IAD, State’s Attorney, US Attorney, the Mayor, the Aldermen, the Police Board, the news media, the race baiting reverends, BLM, Antifa and the public who believes they can tell you how to do your job better than you. Why don’t we license politicians, or at the very least make them pass a competency test? You know, basic economics, how to NOT accept a payoff, etc.?
The politicians are clearly desperate to be seen as “doing something” during this “crisis,” since they clearly were not willing to do anything constructive to prevent or stop it.
With all of the testing and training the police already have to go through, what would “licensing” do? Just add more fees to state coffers, because you know that keeping your cop license would require a hefty annual fee. As far as a way to punish cops for misconduct, I would think that a Internal Affairs investigations, potential prosecution, loss of job and possibly prison time would already be an excellent deterrent. Losing your cop license on top of that would pretty much be irrelevant.
As a citizen who greatly appreciates the job LEOs do every single day, I have been writing to MY legislators to tell them NOT to pass ANY more legislation regulating the cops. We have the legislation. The cops are not the problem. Pandering politicians are a HUGE part of the problem.

Expect the cost to go up and up. And additional charges for " continuing education", as well as expectations of volunteer work, free service for the "privilege" of a license.

Law Enforcement is the only institution that the liberal Democrats don’t control (media, education, universities, culture, corporations, etc) and they’re making a hard push to seize control of us. SCC, I think this topic needs to be expounded on. Tell all the Civilians and media that read the blog, that we are certified by the State, that we go through requested amount of training each year to keep that certification up, that there is a process already in place to your certification revoked.
They apparently do not realize that all Police Officers in the State of Illinois are “certified” by the state and each are issued an individual Police Training Board number. That certification can be revoked at any point, such as for a finding of a Rule 14 violation. That seems to be a “license” to me.

Everything I have read suggests that that if an officer is disciplined by a department but is NOT terminated, the state can come in and pull that officer’s “license”. Losing your license to work as a police officer would result in an officer losing his job. Wouldn’t this be an example of an officer be disciplined twice?

We already have a license. Its call State Certification. This can be pulled at any time and you have to go thru an appeal process and appear before a board to get you certification back. Its not easy. Before I retired, I did help one guy with the board and we jumped thru hoops! But they were fair, its run by ISP.

What the unions should demand is the licensing process should include the safeguards that our politicians, physicians and lawyers have had written into law.
This includes no public access to the complaints, the licensing board should be peers engaged in law enforcement, the results of the completed and founded investigations disclosure be limited and appeals allowed on all investigations.

What no politician will admit that when you enforce laws there will be resistance by some. Resistance will be met with force and someone will get hurt. In some circumstances some will die. (police or offender) That is the reality. Yes better training will help but bottom line there will be deaths.
Many states have similar provisions already. If a cop misbehaves his leg certification can be pulled by the state. Most states don't seem to use it to get rid of bad actors, though that is slowly changing.

Fees for tests, annual and bi-annual fees for license, fees for compliance education. Fees for continuing education. Audits, in house, federal and state regulators. E & 0 Insurance. Before you know it, they may start to charge you technology fees too.
Wait till you see how it adds up and all the "small" increases. When they are trying to balance the budget, they "only raise a couple of the fees $20, $10 and it creeps higher every year.

People now, have no clue what racial disparity nor poverty really looks like. 50-60 years after the Great Depression, my grandma got blocks of government cheese that the government had a hard time getting rid of. It almost felt like theft to her because she didn’t need it. You know where the real disparity is: people who actually hold down actual jobs (bloggers, social influencers, gamers, pro athletes, Hollywood types, etc don’t count) versus all the people who just want the clouds to open up and give them what they think everybody else gots!

Besides, licensure requires a certain number of mandatory training hours every year or two. When will most agencies be able to send their officers for training? Many times it’s all you can do just to have enough personnel to cover your shifts on the street!

Licensing puts liability on YOU. It takes liability for a lot of training away from the city. It prevents you from any job protections you may have in that any state board can pull anyone's state issued license for what they deem just cause. That means the union means jack shit, which is a goal of theirs anyway.
They now know police as a voting base are a lost cause. Police now need to be replaced by loyal democrats who will pay for their new jobs with votes. "Social workers". Anyone more democrat or liberal than THAT?

We already have all kinds of mandatory training tacked onto whatever other training comes up at the fancy of the department and it’s yearly not every two years. It’s part of the consent decree. And guess how much training during the pandemic & riots has been going on?

I remember when Skahill finagled continuing education seminars for Attorney licensing to be provided for free to CPD members (held at HQ on Company time)----oh thats right she is back again---so am guessing it remains---but all us non-lawyer fcks have to pay our of pocket for our mandated Il Dept professional regulation CE hours to remain licensed ....(can see why hairdresser CE is not provided free by department- but how about nurses etc)

im in the trades. in 1990 the made us get cdls whether you needed it or not. in 92 came the city occupational lic. in 2014 came the national occupational license. last year toni prickwrinkles made us REGISTER our lic with the county, too cheap to even issue a lic, just show us what you got or get a massive fine. also big toni made us individually get a million and a half insurance made out to crook county. all of these lics cover the same shit. also in the last few years they have expanded the city and national lic catagorys so you take multipal tests with multiple fees. for cops it could be one lic for cars, one for wagons, one for carbines, one for crowd control etc. the real cluster isnt even the 1000s of dollars but the fact that they all expire at different times and we have to take weeks off to go to union training site. its not the dmv where you can walk in tommorow. classes when scheduled, same with tests. we dont get vac time, if your on a long job and your lic is coming due you pretty much have to quit, jump threw the hoops then wait for another job. biggest issue? didnt change a damn thing work wise or safety wise. just a money grab and the need to control everybody in this state. and remember, they like us, our bosses are in bed with the stooges. they dont like you and will use this to fuck you every chance they get. they claim to license drivers in this state...........anyone ever notice the way people drive ? just more cash for the jagbag pols to airdrop into the ghetto at election time. tail waggin the fuckin dog.........

Personally, I always thought that police were licensed, they get certified and have a license that they have with them whenever they are working.
It has the name of the agency issuing the license, it has a license number and can be revoked at any time by the issuing authority.

Most licensing renews every 2 years , I’m low on the professional totem pole so I pay 225 plus continuing education ... it costs more than the license. Don’t worry they don’t always check if you did it lbs. it’s ALL about the money. I feel we should all get a break on our license this year considering the communist takeover that would not allow us to work if we were labeled not essential.

Employers pay or reimburse for the annual costs associated with professional licenses - not sure about teachers as they are not considered professionals.
yes there will be a fee, next there will be required malpractice ins. that each will have to carry. Then we will essentially be subcontractors to the City which will have no liability for the actions of its subcontractors. Then if we are individual subcontractors why provide health care or a pension.. Where are the unions on this issue. And if it can be done to break our Unions the CPS will be fair game.
