Second Guessing - Six Months Ago
- A Fort Myers police officer was arrested after he failed to contact the Department of Children and Families in regards to a young child's safety, according to Fort Myers Police Chief Derrick Diggs.
Officer Tyler Williams has been placed on unpaid administrative leave and could face internal charges with the department for violations.
His arrest stems from a traffic stop on January 18, 2020 at Colonial and Solomon Boulevards. Officer Williams pulled over a car for speeding at 4:50 a.m.
During this stop, it was the officer's duty to report information about a young child's safety, which put the child's welfare in jeopardy, according to Chief Diggs.
Yes, you are reading that correctly. The officer is facing an internal charge in June.....for a January incident....because a child died in February. This makes a lot of assumptions:
- Officer discretion? Does it exist in Florida? Was the officer being an understanding human being and cutting the woman a break?
- Did the woman pinky swear promise to put the child in a car seat? Isn't it her responsibility to ensure the safety of her child?
- Does anyone really think that the Florida Department of Children and Family Services would investigate a seat belt complaint?
But some useless bureaucrat chief thinks he can second guess his officers five months or more after the fact? Fuck this jagoff.

Inform Child and Protective services every time you have a child out of the car seat, a child in a car with drugs or paraphernalia, especially if it is the middle of the night. You better not let the driver and passengers go until the baby snatchers show up on site to investigate.
If it takes the entire shoift, it takes the entire shift. Remember! If it only saves one child!!! If it overloads Child and Protective Services? Not your circus, not your monkeys.
The Fort Myers Police will give the Florida Department of Children and Family Services quite a workout for the next ten years minimum.

In Atlanta they're roasting the officer because he didn't give the man a break for a DUI. In this instance the officer gives a break and it's the same result? Fuck the internal charges. Officer Williams was ARRESTED and being CRIMINALLY charged with a third-degree FELONY for failure to report child abuse and neglect. So any Florida cop that doesn’t report suspect abuse or neglect can now anticipate being arrested for a felony charge? Well screw that! Report everyone and let social services drown in reports.

I'm retired and live in Ft Myers, great weather, conservative politics but Ft Myers does have Chief Diggs. He is a transplant Chief from Toledo and has enough qualifications to be the Supt of Chicago. You never see him in public because he has communication skills worse than Biden.
I read the blog and could not believe an Officer removed from duty and arrested for an incident occurring in Jan as a seat belt violation. I always thought an Officer has discretion in performing his duties and in this incident conducted a preliminary investigation on the street and determined the child was not at risk at that moment in time and allowed the party to continue. Little further background on Diggs, one of his Captains last year was arrested for doing a sting operation on a massage parlor but on video was observed taking a little more pleasure in the massage parlor than authorized. After a year or so he was charged with some sort of crime but is not on the news radar anymore. Ft Myers does have its own murder rate mostly not reported to the public and this Officer in the middle of night stopping a vehicle was doing good police work maybe looking for a weapon in a vehicle used in a shooting. Chief Diggs, your another example of a leader to your troops and a morale builder.lol

I don't know about criminal charges against him, but it seems a pretty big screwup even without the benefit of hindsight.
Diggs salary $182,000, with perks that can take it to $251 K, for a department of 300, 82,000 citizens in Ft Myers, smaller than some of Chicago's districts.
Kid died when mother crashed he vehicle reportedly hi on drugs, no story of the mother being charged.

A big problem in law enforcement today is the fact that there are too many gutless wonders that are command staff in departments across the nation! Many of these useless assholes are not real cops and don’t have any idea of what the job is about. These same imbeciles make judgements that they have no background giving them any clue as to what really goes on at the patrol officer level! The bigger problem is the mayors, states attorney & alder-people who get elected and really have no skills, insufficient education & absolutely no common sense To manage a popcorn stand let alone city wide government!!!
That's what OUR force review unit is all about. Review body cams even if there isn't a complaint. Had a fellow officer get contacted via dept. email a long time after an incident. The email said something like "We've reviewed your body worn camera footage under incident RD#xxxx and we recommend you review some of the department directives"
No complaint. There was an arrest on signed complaints and their suggestion apparently focussed on how HE (not the arresting officer) could have handled the situation differently. I guess it didn't rise to the level of disciplinary action but just shows you THEY are reviewing on their own.
With societal hatred of police, BWC second guessing, department & city out to get us any chance they get, food establishments sabotaging food/drinks, etc. the ONLY policy any cop should be using is one of ZERO to minimum interaction with the public unless forced to. Can't leave this job quick enough.
And the mayor of Atlanta said the officer should have used discretion and let a dui driver go.

Shit like this breaks my heart. As an officer that has worked the annals of this ungrateful city, I have seen the worst specimens that humanity has to offer. One has to adapt to the thinking of the shitbird and then react accordingly. I'm sure that this officer handled many crackheads in similar situations and reacted like many of us would. We know that arresting this mutt would have been a fruitless endeavor due to the revolving door of the court systems nationwide. Sadly, this baby never stood a chance in life because her mother was an addict who didn't give a fuck about herself let alone the baby. THIS IS NOT OUR FAULT !!! And then the officer was arrested??? Unfuckin believable !!!

Isn't citing a traffic citation actually a defacto notification to the state via the courts? This sounds like an admin beef more than criminal. But we live in interesting times. Looks like DCFS is getting too involved in police business lately. And just how much concern is there for the liability of the knucklehead parent in all of this?
In case you haven’t noticed this is happening all over the country. Videos are being reviewed and charges brought against officers. That’s just the way it goes. BLM’s legal observers are volunteering time to do this. So if there’s anything questionable then expect to be notified.

If the Atlanta officers let Brooks go and he ended up coming back to the car and driving and killed someone, the officers would be getting arrested like the Fort Meyers officer for not taking police action. They would also be subject to civil lawsuits from an ambulance chasing scumbag attorney representing the deceased person.

So be it. I do not work in a busy district, but I will transfer there and report everything. Do they still have that 800 number where no one picks up and you cannot leave a message? Do I drop the children off personally? So many questions.
Parents not feeding children breakfast and lunch , child neglect, abuse . Happens everyday in Chicago , that’s reason CPS provides breakfast and lunch . Unfit parents.

Read a more detailed article about this. It stated that Ofc found heroin, meth, and paraphernalia in the car. With body camera on, he told the occupants they were getting a freebie and said he didn’t feel like dealing with [DCFS equivalent in FL] so early in the morning. Don’t agree with arrest but, if true, would explain it a little better than just discretion on a child seat violation.

Perhaps the plan is to have all the sworn officers leave due to fake charges, get sued or just wear down with bureaucracy. The BLM/Antifa types will then take over duties of the police. They are probably already certified to be LEOs.

“Any other person required by this Act to report suspected child abuse and neglect who willfully fails to report such is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor for a first violation and a Class 4 felony for a second or subsequent violation.” Police officers fall into this category, so State’s Attorney can charge you criminally.
Can’t happen here? Just wait, it probably will.
Two Floriduh cops actually earned their arrests.
Three Ft Pierce cops, K-9 Officer Albert Eckrode, 32 a white man, Officer Monica Frederic, 27 who is black, and a third black male officer are in a hospital mental health ward with a sitting "drunk and combative" 38 year old shirtless in shorts and socks white guy who made "racial" comments about the black female Frederic.
So Eckrode decides to tune up the drunk by shoving him, slapping him and punching him. Tries to get the drunk to fight but the drunk was not that stupid. Body cams not on. Toward the end of the beating another white man and black officer, probably hospital security, enter and watch. Nobody intervenes.
Eckrode and Frederic file false incident reports. Drunk needs stitches. Hospital checks their own security tape and no-doubt policy requires them to report. Ft Pierce police learn lessons about tune ups and security cameras.
