Some police departments are backing out of agreements to help Milwaukee police manage protesters during the Democratic National Convention next month.
Thousands of protesters are expected at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee next month even though only a few hundred Democrats will be there because of coronavirus and a scaled down convention.
Police from other parts of the state said if they can't use tear gas to disperse violence they won't come.
They're citing the Fire and Police Commission's mandate not to use tear gas.
"Those tools are time-proven to, to be able to be very safe and effectively prevent, stop or otherwise control protests that are becoming non-peaceful," Fond du Lac Police Chief William Lamb said.
Lamb is also chair of the Wisconsin Police Executive Group. He said not using tear gas could increase the danger to everyone.
"They're asking them to do that dangerous work with one hand tied behind their back. And I will not ask the men and women of my department to do that," Lamb said.
West Allis police backed out, saying, "WAPD understands the use of chemical irritants is very serious and respects that the FPC has decision-making authority in regards to MPD. However, the WAPD does not agree with this decision and believes this decision compromises the safety of the public and officers."
A letter from Franklin's police chief said, "I cannot send personnel if they are not properly equipped or will not be allowed to engage in appropriate actions which would ensure their safety."
Lamb said not using chemical irritants leads to officers physically moving in.
"That tactic almost always results in some kind of violence. And subsequently the need for those police officers to use even higher levels of force," Lamb said.
The Milwaukee Police Department has not issued a response to the other departments' decision.

The middle class has abandoned them and the three or four teachers/administrators who always held the building together have all quit, retired or died. What’s left to fill the ranks are people who have never known academic failure as they were pushed through their watered down high school and college courses, never worked a real job and can do nothing else if they had the ambition to try. There is all sorts of history on how Marxism infiltrated the US educational system (and sorry I know many elementary level teachers, grade 5 & below who I wouldn’t describes as overly curious people or as intellectuals, so they are easily led by the noses into this communist tripe by colleagues). If I had children in school, I’d definitely pull them from any public school, suburban or not. If that’s not an option for you, I’d be following very closely the curriculum my kids are being taught. The 1619 project is not factual & was not created by a historian, yet it is being pushed as curriculum by many who want to overthrow & completely undo what our founders did accomplish. I’d be screaming loudly at every school board meeting and even going as far as insisting classroom learning be viewable by parents via video review. As to private or Catholic school, I’d still keep a watchful eye. Don’t assume your private school teachers is in the clear. I briefly dated a CPS teacher. He was nice enough but then when we’d start to talk politics etc, he’d go on and on about his “rebel” days & was proud of this. He grew up in an upper middle class Jewish family. He never wanted for money or travel growing up. He knew his higher education wouldn’t be an issue. Me, I grew up in family of working class parents, who much of the time one or other worked 2 jobs & yet, they still raised us (there were no programs raising us, it wasn’t society’s job to do that). I remarked to him after one more “rebellion salad days” discussion that I found it funny how “rebellion” often seemed a privilege of the privileged. I never had time to “rebel,” I was too busy working 2 jobs to put food in my mouth & pay for school. He kind of shut up after that.

Side note: I would not bother using Change.org. It’s clear who they are aligned with and who they take marching orders from. Clearly, it’s okay to endanger a student as OPRF student was by a teacher, Anthony Clark & have change.org allow a petition to reinstate him. That same teacher acknowledged that the student was a good kid, but made essentially a poor decision when running for a student office aimed at racial equality. However, another teacher, this teacher, DeNovi, endangers his student by doxxing their parent and a petition to remove him is taken down on change.org. How exactly can you justify doing this? Do we really need teacher’s, especially public school teachers, any longer? If my kid was school aged, I’d seriously think about home school at this point. The only reservation I ever had about home school was the social aspect, but because of social media and Covid, they aren’t interacting the same anyways. If you can arrange your work schedule around it, you should do it. I’d start with a network of friends and arrange planned “recess” throughout the week. It’s not easy, but honestly, the fact that I’m paying up the ass in property taxes only to have my child indoctrinated into a philosophy I don’t agree with infuriates me.
And, I’ll add, if there are trained, certified educator’s out there, that don’t agree with this communist agenda, you might make a killing in starting up an online primary/high school level school, where your curriculum reflects actual education, learning and not cultural Marxist indoctrination.

Glad to see President Trump threaten to hold back federal funding for school districts that don't want to reopen to students this fall, but instead want to continue with this sham of virtual schooling. These teachers probably want this virtual teaching so they can have more free time to attend BLM riots and destroy property and injure police. The President suggested money allocated for schools could instead go straight to parents as vouchers used to send their children to parochial schools. This President is a genius, destroying the communist leaning public school teachers and their unions.

Now, granted Douglas County isn't the most diverse place on earth, but the straight up truth is that our coppers are clean. If you aren't starting nothin', there ain't gonna be nothin'. This de-funding police is similar to the Democrats de-funding the South Vietnamese military in 1975. They were holding their own from 73 to 75. Then the money for fuel and ammunition we had promised was cut off by the Democrats. 30 years ago, CTU developed and began funding an organization called Grow a Teacher, which is now called Grow Illinois. This program would recruit young impressionable CPS students, mentor them, pay scholarships for their degree in education, indoctrinate them, then bring them into the CTU ranks, all while pushing a socialist agenda. This has been 30 years in the making

I got to see communism up close in Cuba back in the day, and I immediately understood why the Cubans in Miami were fanatically anti-communist. I think everyone in America would benefit from a similar visit, or maybe a trip to Venezuela.
