A Glimmer of Intelligence

  • Single-night rentals would be banned in Chicago through Airbnb and other online platforms in an effort backed by Mayor Lori Lightfoot to crack down on “party houses” as part of a series of stricter rules governing how the vacation rental businesses can operate in the city.

City officials also would have an easier time cracking down on problem renters under the ordinance that passed the City Council License Committee on Tuesday.

And residents living in denser neighborhoods such as the lakefront areas that aldermen complain get overrun with summer short-term renters would be able to join Chicagoans in parts of the city in collecting signatures to try to prohibit vacation rentals from setting up shop in their precincts.
Of course, the party houses have already moved out to the suburbs in many cases. Watch the news and you can find almost weekly examples of suburbanites being "shocked" that 300 people would show up and trash a house in the sleepy little cul-de-sac.

These Air BnB type rentals should be banned statewide.

Party goers, I suggest the North Shore. You will be welcomed with open arms, hell they might even kneel for you.
Evanston, Glenview, Northbrook, Winnetka are all dying for the vibrant diversity you bring to their communities. What are you waiting for? Party up north, if they have a BLM sign on their lawn you can get away with anything.
These people have spoken loudly that they crave some diversity experiences, please give it them.
Why make some of these people drive all the way to the Eisenhower and Pulaski to buy small amounts when you can bring a Costco amount to them, think big and bulk!

You can’t get away from the $hitheads, they want to be by you. You could find a cave in some remote area to escape but give it some time and they will find that cave right next to you.

Bullshit!!! My town/neighborhood dealt with this bullshit. Numerous neighbors asked the assholes, do you want to run away from lead, or face it. Hopefully poison ivy taught them a lesson. Stay the fuck out of the suburbs!!! Act a fool, and your VRBO neighborhood, will respond.

So they rent a house for two days circumventing the city ordinance. Use it for the party and the party just cost a little more.

Let’s see
1) It’s illegal to sell or buy spray paint in Chicago but graffiti is rampant
2) It’s illegal to buy or sell guns in Chicago yet there are 500 homicides a year in Chicago
So I guess the one night rental rule will be a huge success. ♠️

Not a lot of difference from renting a hotel room or banquet hall for a party. The problem is not having parties. There are lots of parties that do not including shootings.

Burning down the party house on your cul-de-sac would be wrong, very wrong. Maybe just break the pipes in the upstairs bathroom instead.

Mutts already in the suburbs. A friend of mine told me about this "crowded party" in Highland Park earlier this year:

https://patch.com/illinois/highlandpark/police-probe-possible-shooting-highland-park-new-years-party

He tells me the city downplayed it, but people who know better understand it's just the beginning. He also tells me half the houses up there have BLM lawn signs.

And who can forget this asshole?

https://patch.com/illinois/highlandpark/airbnb-suit-heads-trial-price-cut-chief-keefs-old-home

You'll notice that the owner who rented his mansion to this jagoff not only had to reduce his eventual selling price, but also got hit with two lawsuits for his "short term rental" to this ghetto rat.

Frankly, this is bullshit. There are perfectly legit reasons for single night rentals, and I am sure that's what 99+% of them are - legit.

"Airbnb is maybe 3 steps below house flippers.

Is someone who arrived on this earth in the 1940s a Millenial?

Was a cop as long as anyone reading this blog. So house flippers are bad are they (we)? You have a problem with me buying the most run down house in a nice neighborhood and throwing a remodel and in the end making it one of the best houses in the neighborhood and in the process making a few bucks?

House flipping is why firefighter get to drive those new pickups.

Our corresponded must be on of those "community" activists who on one hand argue that they are forced to live in a shithole, and then on the other protests when someone moves in and starts rebuilding.

Now we turn to short term rentals. People travel all over the civilized world staying in Airbnds. It is a great opportunity to visit cities and live in a house and have something other than a Disneyland experience. If I want to rent out my house short-term why does that make me the bad guy? I've worked hard and invested my money in rental property which is now part of my retirement income stream.

The problem is that you have these uncivilized people that the city is unwilling to deal with. Simple as that. You want to punish me, because this community can't act in a civilized manner. Typical democrat response - attack the responsible people because a minority of people can't be expected to follow the rules.

I lived in $1.5 million paid for house. I have a retirement income stream of over $250K. Some of is from public retirement systems. As you know some state retirement may be at risk - sounds like the CPD's falls into that category. Mine, not so much, but here is the deal - I filliped those houses and so even if the retirement system goes BK, I can live on my rental income and will be passing more than a few buck to my kids.

Well, I guess I am that greedy capitalists that you democrats hate so so much. I prefer to think of myself as one who takes family security as a personal responsibility.

I didn't realize that Bernie not only reads this blog, but contributes to it too. I bet you don't even own a framing hammer.

LOL. Maybe not Evanston. Apart from a half mile strip between L and the lake it's a shithole. Also be careful with Northbrook - you might inadvertently cross into the Lake County, and you know how it ends.

Those single night rentals will only be increasing.
As we enter the fall rental season more and more apartments and rental condos will become available as even the Snowflakes begin to flee Chiraq.
It’s taken awhile but Chiraq is now firmly on the Detroit track.

Long long overdue.

Now ask yourself, how many of our local politicians and department functionaries have been, and/or are currently beneficiaries of cash donations and/or gifts from AirBnB firm? Follow the trail, you Trib reporters, do your investigative reporting!!!

That’s some vacation. Someone else’s crib for a night. I wonder if Air BnB got that idea from the love shack Sybaris?

Yeah, and the AngryToad LightFührer banned beach parties, party buses, restaurants from inside dining (now for the winter months), oh, and Indiana guns too.

Can anyone rent the City Hall roof top of a couple hours since the ground floors aren’t even being used? I know the Hancock Center Observation Deck runs in the thousands for private use.

– any knee jerk reaction by Larri is predicated on what happened to her, in this cas it might be that a Hancock resident is hosting ABNB events thats been interrupting her beauty sleep for months now. When she couldn’t get into her Logan Squirt flat to do a load of laundry, she ordered a Wall and sentries to clear a path...at our expense. Hancock Condo Assn is probably not pleased with her freeloading over-occupancy since it’s probably a 500 sf one bath studio. Three across on a foldout cot. Sauganash better keep a watchout.

counterpoint. i agree with the rich outta state retired cop home flipper who owns his very own framing hammer. i have a weekend place out of state by the lake with a couple airb&b s on my block. people of all stripes come from multiple states for a day or two to enjoy the beach. they are damn near invisible, and im watching. there has never been ANY trouble or even littering left behind. i believe most of the full time nieghbors dont even know they are rentals. as usual the problem isnt with the business model, the problem is the democrat protected feral of the blue cities who know they can do anything anywhere with complete immunity and impunity. blame biden, hoghead, da groot, kimbo and the rest of the race baiting democrats for the party scourge in the burbs. the business is fine, the customers in illinois are the problem. as the man said, blame the owner for what dude did to your cul de sac, dont dare blame dude, that would be racist. real estate used to be a no brainer until the democrats started pimping for the dead beat renters. kudos to the guy with the framing hammer, he gets it.
