- Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and CPS CEO Janice Jackson announced reforms Wednesday to the School Resource Officer program for the 2020-2021 school year.
After weeks of allowing local school councils to make their own decisions, CPS announced Wednesday that as of this next year, 17 of the city's public high schools will no longer have Chicago police officers in their buildings.
"We have heard from our students loud and clear," said CPS CEO Dr. Janice Jackson.
Um, don't adults run schools? Aren't people with degrees in charge? Don't parents pay taxes and serve on School Councils? The adults run schools because students (by definition) are unlearned in the ways of the world. They are, quite simply, morons. But "doctor" Jackson thinks they are a source of knowledge?
- Fifty-five schools voted to keep their School Resource Officers, or SROs, but their partnership with CPD will undergo some changes, especially in terms of selection criteria and specific training officers will need to undergo. "This year we're moving to excellent disciplinary history. Based on the feedback we've received. We've tightened those parameters to make sure we have people in the building who are supportive of our children based on their records," said Jadine Chou, CPS chief of safety and security.
The reforms announced Wednesday include requiring SRO officers to comply with the Welcoming City and Welcoming School ordinances to protect students from discrimination, including undocumented students. SROs will also be prohibited from entering information into the CPD Criminal Enterprise Information System. The CPD terminals will also be removed from the schools so SROs will not have access to the database.
So now the CPS dictates Chicago Police Officers? Where exactly do they fall in the disciplinary and command structures?

You guys/gals need to quit working school patrol.
Have a little integrity. You SHOULD have enough time on the job to bid for days or try to find a somewhat "nice" spot.
If you are younger, you shouldn't be working the schools anyways. Don't think your co-workers do not know the real reason you work schools with under 10yrs on.
Before we fled the state, my kids were in IL public schools. They became increasingly outrage and angry as they saw misbehaving kids getting all the rewards. “Daddy, the WORSE they behave, the MORE STUFF they get! It feels like the teachers are trying to bribe them to settle down! I behave all the time and I get completely ignored, but if they settle down for two minutes the teacher gives them a toy or a fidget spinner or a snack.Then the kids are back to breaking stuff and throwing tha and hitting other kids - and they don’t even get sent to the principal’s office!”
This started around 3D or 4th grade, and just got worse over time. It was infuriating. We got out of the state 4 years ago and our kids are happy.

Plain and simple any police officer that volunteers to work in the schools deserves what they get. Just do not volunteer to be an SRO and the problem is solved.

No cops in schools works well, until a kid or kids are injured or killed. Then the same people, who wanted cops gone, cry and scream on camera for cops saying my poor child was hurt or murdered in that school.
Compared to the CPS the children may very well be the only source of knowledge in the entire system.

I had Six years on when they approached me to be the school officer at Field School in RP some years ago. Sgt. Veth was pushing me to do it. I turned it down. I am not driving to work every day and doing that.
Best decision I could have made. My mind would have been polluted with ghetto rot.

This would be an excellent opportunity for Chicago Police Officers to demonstrate unity and have NO ONE apply for this position. I know its weekends off and straight days, but it is time to quit being selfish and show that we can stand as one to fight these jag*&fs that are trying to dictate how our department should operate. Let all of these schools see what it would be like without CPD there to ensure safety. This should include not assigning ANY officers to dismissal either. These black and brown kids who say they cant concentrate on their school work because an officer is in the building have gotten to be kidding. These are the ones who want the police out of the building so they can openly recruit new gang members, intimidate the teachers and basically do as they want. In loco parentis was a routine phrase an old timer Youth Officer (D2a) used to always say whenever a school principal wanted one of their feral students “locked up” because no guardian could be found or would come and take them, usually because the school office wanted to home at 1500 hrs. The YO even made a copy of the CPS handbook were schools have an authority standard as a parents/guardian to physically direct any disruptive student during school hours for just cause.

The old School Unit was a staple well before the advent of the 1999 SRO response (Columbine) as a result of politics and mostly to push gun control.

Absolutely correct and this was an obama policy which incentivized schools to not arrest students for known criminal activity. Trayvon Martin's school locker allegedly had burglary tools and proceeds from reported burglaries, but the SRO at his school made it disappear through "administrative" processes.
The Conservative Treehouse did an outstanding deep dive on this and the subsequent political trial of George Zimmerman. The prosecution knowingly made up and inserted Martins "girlfriend" into the trial. She was not his girlfriend who he was on the phone with.
The police should not accept calls from the corrupt CTU run Chicago Public School system. Let the communist teachers and administrators who work at those schools handle all issues. Since there isn't going to be in person interactions between communist teachers and "students" then defund and streamline the Chicago Public School system. Cut payroll and close buildings and sell them off. The CTU and CPS put out an inferior product and are incompetent teachers writ large and should be subject to compensation cuts and layoffs.
When [not if] CPD is called to a school to handle student, they should wait in their car until CTU delivers student to them all zip tied up. School psychologist can help teacher. Cops can issue grades and critique. Subtract from total score for style points. And ask for another free pizza from the CTU!
