Last round of riots 1st watch start time was 1300. At the initial glance I thought I was looking at 3rd watch sheets. Couldn't believe my eyes. These bosses are so incredibly incompetent they genuinely believe they're helping out officers by adjusting their sleep cycles and circadian clocks by 12 hours. I don't know what to think anymore. CPD is lost.

I’ve always been a pretty positive person. Always had a good time on this job. But lately, I totally hate this job. Can not stand it. They work us to death and could not give two shits about you or your life outside this job. Bunch of assholes running this place. I’ve also never heard so many fellow officers relate how negative they feel about this job. Everyone I talk to hates this job and can’t wait to get off. They’re all stuck one way or another, but none even remotely like it anymore.
When our lil toad Mayor is in her Tahoe, sitting, as usual on her bony ass, is she strapped into a child seat? Just wondering.

I was there taking pictures and the DePaul student immediately stuck out to me as...odd. Long before things escalated, when there wasn't CPD within 30 feet of her, she was acting as if she was guarding a basketball player and would constantly shuffle along the parameter of her fellow protesters as they walked. Then much later when the protesters had stopped before turning around, a CPD officer went to walk along the edge of the protesters (who had made a parameter with bikes) to the officers on the other side. She took off wading through the other protesters and proceeded to block him. I couldn't see the details of what went on after that.. but other officers realizing he was getting surrounded by the crowd were aggressively blocked by the protesters. That was, to my knowledge, the first incident between protesters and CPD. Some time after, the protesters closed the large gap between the CPD and made a wall of umbrellas - this was absolutely NOT in defense of anything the CPD had done - I was standing between them taking pictures and could sense something was going to happen after the umbrellas came out. I don't know who initiated it, but it escalated into bike grabbing and umbrellas being taken - and the CPD officer getting hit with the skateboard. Things quickly calmed down as other protesters called for them all to continue walking back. They moved off to a side street and were in constant tension with CPD as several protesters would either deliberately or accidentally fall behind the others and come into contact with the forward marching CPD trying to catch up with the rest of the protesters.

I'm a Reserve Sheriff's Deputy in another state, and I'm also an MD who has taken care of many cops in my clinical practice. I got family in Chicago, so that's why I follow SCC. You guys all know how fatigue affects your alertness, reaction time, attitude, judgment and overall performance on the job. I've seen it and experienced it myself. These 12-14 hour shifts with no days off are a recipe for disaster, whether it be an OIS or a copper hurt or killed. You make a mistake, and you get hammered. I just read an article titled: "Cumulative, high-stress calls impacting adverse events among law enforcement and the public". The conclusion was: "LEOs become susceptible to adverse events (e.g. injury, excessive use of force) after repeated exposure to high-stress calls for service. Ongoing exposures to stress continue to occur throughout the shift. Our long-term goal is to interrupt this repetitive, cumulative process by restricting the number of consecutive high-risk, high-intensity calls an officer is permitted to respond to." Okay---it's not telling us anything we don't already know, right? But since it was published in the peer-reviewed medical literature in a prestigious journal, it carries a lot of weight. I don't know if anyone covered this but there's rumors of days off cancelled for every Friday Saturday and Sunday.
