- Prosecutors have filed felony charges against three adults in connection with an uprising that brought a violent end to a previously-peaceful demonstration in the Loop on Saturday evening.
The two-hour clash squared police off against organized cells that “came for a fight” after embedding themselves within protesters, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said on a Sunday morning news program.
Police arrested 24 people, and 17 cops were injured during the melee, CPD Supt. David Brown said Saturday. Neither police nor fire officials released any information about how many non-police injuries were recorded.

Sure there is some training and some repetition, but overall the stressful environment you work in and the new, sometimes horrible things you come across require courage and intelligence to get through.

Back in 1971, I was on the job and just got home from the army. I went to Circle Campus and then to DePaul. I had aholes for professors, anti-police, anti-military . None of them ever had a real job and all they knew was what they learned from a book. But, I kept silent and did not engage in their nonsense. I found it easier to get through. You cannot get these book goofs to see your point of view. Beside that, I found that they have the power of the pen and can screw with your grades. My recommendation is keep to yourself. I did meet lots of great people at both schools.
I'm also a gorgeous, dainty, little police officer. Maybe I can enroll at DePaul so those little boys can hit on me.

I've dealt with a few of those in previous software jobs...usually not very good at what they do, but they tick off a few of the not hetero white/Asian male boxes and management serves up some bullshit about how the department benefits from their intangible and mostly undefined unique qualifications. IT departments (which also have software guys on staff for running internal systems) tend to be even more dysfunctional than R&D because way too many organizations' C-level management knows nothing about tech and puts a juiced-up bureaucrat in charge of IT who promptly implements the trickle-down theory of ineptitude. This is precisely how the Equifax debacle came to be.
The sad part is that there's plenty of sharp engineers out there that happen to be in a minority group, but their coworkers have difficulty trusting them after bad experiences with those who game the system. As usual, clueless liberal white guys' overzealous attempts to appear socially conscious to their friends ultimately end up hurting the very people they say they want to help.
