Nice Schedule Idiots

We're sure this is the product of numerous morons, but get a load of this starting Friday (from an a-mailer):
  • I work days, by bid. Friday I'm RDO Canceled, so the Department is making me work 1600 to 0400 hours

Then Saturday, my Regular Working Day, I work 0700 to 1900 - but only if I manage to land a late car. Otherwise it's 0600 to 1800.

So I work 24 hours out of 26 or 27 hours? This is legal?
A better question should be, "Is this safe?"

And the answer is, "No, but Groot doesn't care."

UPDATE: One rumor says this schedule runs all the way through 08 September? We're thinking Groot wants us to shoot somebody so Crimesha has some scalps to hang on the wall.

Disengage boys and girls. Disengage.

During the riots after George Floyd died of an overdose, we were told that when they cancel your RDO the Department can start you anytime they want on that day, regardless of your current watch. However if I’m reading section 20.7 on page 30 of the contract correctly, the city can only change your staring time by 7 hours for unforeseen events. That would mean 0700 day people could only be started as late as 1400 when they are cancelled. The contract doesn’t really address starting times between watches. Just talks about 1st watch change day only being required to work 4 hours IF they worked full 3rd watch shift the day before change day. I was always under the impression you were guaranteed at least 6 hours between shifts. Can’t find that in writing though.

This is crazy and the reason I am leaving Chicago. I have lived since 2000 and seen it get worse every year crime wise. In 2009 I feel I noticed it and all the politicians talk is guns are the problem or certain group needs more money and opportunities. BS we need more police and Kim Fox to do her job. Lucky I inherited a little money to buy a place cash where I move. I expect crime where I move but they actually don’t encourage it like the Lori and citizens are armed. Here the descent citizens and cops are powerless. Lori Lightfoot f u and Gov Fat Ass. And I know others that will be gone with in a year. Not a cop. I appreciate all of you. There is a study on sleep deprivation and the physical and cognitive effects it has on the body. It greatly reduces your ability to make good decisions and is detrimental to your physical and mental health. The number of hours you are awake without rest at some point begins to have the equivalent of alcoholic intoxication. We are not allowed to be intoxicated while on duty and it is grounds for immediate termination. If this is true, how is sleep deprivation allowed on duty when the effects are the same as being drunk?

How ironic.

Everyone knows that an intact family (mother & fathers) is a better environment in which to raise children, especially boys. Something about a role model, where the father works (mostly likely the mother too).

The best environment is where the father and mother have time to devote to their children. You know, camping trips, little league, boy scouts (that the liberals have destroyed) and so on.

The democrats have attacked the intact family. Back in the day mom stayed home and took care of the kids. (We now see stay-at-home dads, which makes sense - person with the greater earning potential works). Why do we need, for the first time in record history, both the mother and family working outside the house? Taxes, high taxes is the answer. If you analyze the two income finance I think you'll find that compared to 1950s (before the Great Society) one of the incomes now gos to paying the higher taxes needed to support the community. Factor in the expense of child care and the need to eat out more often (because both partners are working) and your net gain over the one income of the 1950's is minuscule.

You are working so other's don't at the expense of our children.

I think, from my experience, that fathers who are cops are the generally the best fathers in the neighborhood. They are part of their kids lives and push their kids to grow into good citizens.

It is now so ironic that the city is forcing cops to work, thus unable to fulfil their responsibility to their own families, so that that they can deal and protect a community where the intact family is a rarity.
.

Just a Chicago resident, not a cop. Answer is "call in sick for 2nd shift". You've sufficient union rules to allow sick-time without repercussions, so follow exactly the requirements to "call in sick" and do so. Save us taxpayers the next riot, the next BLM-sanctioned looting spree, the next indignant "wrongful whatever" SJW protest. It's a powder-keg of rancid SJW-warrior mayhem and property destruction and wanton expenditures of taxpayers' real estate tax payments.

I'm a deeply unhappy Streeterville resident. Contrary to popular opinion on this site, we're not all SJWs angry at police. We're angry at the corruption and stupidity of our elected local officials, the merit promotions that've clearly wrecked CPD and CPS, and Little Lori Lightfoot, Preckwinkle, Foxx, Evans, Dart, and the entire Daley Family Combine. My neighbors would sell and move now, immediately, but 60611 real estate market is dead, with near zero sales or pending contracts (less than 10% of current listings "under contract"). I'm a senior citizen. Chicago is in far worse shape than during 1968 unrest.

What’s the beef Stu ?
Go around and around trying to play preplanned event (riot) or sudden emergency (natural disaster) is only a matter of how come I only get paid time and a half. It’s a union thing that’s still not resolved or understood because of city lawyers semantics. This isn’t new and it’s been around for over twenty five years, going back when we used to be deployed for either Humboldt Park carnival and the Marquette Park marches. There’s just not enough police to man every Democrat manufactured event.
12 hours tours suck no matter what and where, either you’re bored shitless or overloaded and dehydrated by the time it’s over.

Plan on getting bunion removed or sore knee scoped. Maybe you’ve been exposed to a deadly stay at home disease.
C’mon man, you know that thing ! If enough y’all just made use of those benefits. Duty Availability should have fill in replacements available for those times when the Watch is depleted for couple weeks, e.g. House Mice.
Btw...
A weary, absentee Larri LightFührer won’t be back in town until this weekends preplanned dead and wounded are counted and plywoods are reattached.

Labour Affairs...
When a water main bursts at 10pm Sat or Sun night and causes flooding the entire neighborhood, say 3400 Wrightwoods, is the city plumber crew getting a premium double time for the wake up and fix this shit or are they a 24/7 straight time operation?

So now that I read this post this makes me recircle to my thoughts on CFD. How is it fire works a 24 hour shift but cops can't? Just thinking aloud here. I know a paramedic for CFD and they are busy 24 7.

Yes, they, paramedics, work one 24 hour shift then get 3 days off in a row. We have to work numerous 12 hour shifts in a row without a day off, start times changed by as much as 4 hours in violation of our contract, and the 12 hour days usually turn into 14-15 hour days. Yes, i know paramedics too and they do work very hard but you have to look at the whole picture.

years ago there was a copper I worked with that worked in excess of 16 hours (worked his shift and then dept. sanctioned overtime for a special event). on his way home he fell asleep and got into a fatal crash killing the motorist he ran into. after that he never saw a promotion, assignment to any unit he put in for and pure hell at the hand of the bosses (which definitely rolled down from the top).

Beware that this could happen to any one of us. I will put a good portion of next check on it that the fucking city won't back us and will go out of its way to jam us up if and when this happens to us. Yeah the OT $$ is great but its no fun living through the bullshit. especially from some desk jockey exempt or Copa investigator arm chair quarterbacking our actions.

Then there's the pure physical and mental exhaustion while at work. we know what happens when we take a break (popcorn and coffee).

Remember why we signed up to be the police, but also remember your coworkers and family and don't jeopardize any of them for these pieces of shit and politicians.

Here is another example of how the Dummy from Dallas is continuing to mismanage the Department, its personnel and its resources. He truly is out of his league and it shows by his own hand how stupid he really is and by being the good "German" soldier just "following orders".

The desperation in the Murder Queens voice, the hard lines of failure cut deep into her facial features, fear of exposure of her public incompetence, she now realizes, but will never admit, that as mayor, she is a complete and utter failure even in Murder City. Even the ever loyal but dumb Aldercreature smell blood in the political waters.

As more looting and the sacking of the city is expected this weekend, her adding concrete blocks and barricades at intersections provide the background for scenes from downtown Beirut. It adds to the urban destruction of the of the former "Mag Mile" (AKA: Demolished Mile) and the boarded up and rubbled dow1ntown area. Under the lack of leadership by the Massillon Midget, the third largest city in the country is in shambles, bankrupt, destroyed and sacked. Another shit job being done by Shitty City's first Marxist Democrat mayor.

Shame, shame shame should be heaped upon the Massillon Midget and the Dummy from Dallas.

Not that fire departments do not work hard or earn their pay, but if they are not actively engaged in fighting a fire, they sleep at the station house. Officers can not sleep/nap while on duty. Police officers must be awake and aware, stand a post, drive at high speeds multiple times in a shift, and they must be able to think and reason well enough to make decisions on whether to use deadly force or not.
It is a rarity that a fireman must be engaged in fighting a fire for 12 hours, much less 20 or more in a 24 hour time period.

Two very different jobs. CFD has a fire house where they have a kitchen and beds and the ability to get shut eye or relaxation during down time. Cops would just be stuck sitting in a car or a chair in police station for 24 hours. And if you’re in a busy district? The calls don’t stop coming in. You’re trying to manage often times very angry people who hate you in volatile situations and times where force may have to be used. Possibly even deadly force. I don’t think it would be wise to send a cop to an active shooter situation when he’s on his 23rd hour of work after answering 80+ calls. Or to a person with a gun. Or into any other many dangerous situations where we wouldn’t be fully alert because we’ve been handling calls in the ghetto for 23 hours and we end up getting severely hurt or killed. Again, we don’t have beds couches and kitchens. I want you to hop in your car for 24 hours, several times an hour you have to go break up a drunken ghetto domestic, get screamed at as if you’re the source of someone’s problems, go to the homicide, possibly get into some fights. And the only reprieve you get is 30 minutes to eat a cold sandwich at a shitty asbestos ridden police station all the while dispatch is still trying to give you jobs.

Head ache, dizzy, exhaustion, woozy, droopy eyes, hungry, thirsty, dry mouth, sore back, sore neck, sore feet, etc... Then go to the hospital. Sleep. Eat, drink, rest, and of course get medical care.

When you are well and cleared by the doctor come back to the unit and sign out. Submit overtime request.

Hit iod. Rest, eat, drink and repeat. What's the problem? No really... What's your problem?

I left RedBull on the shelves once I discovered kratom. Different kinds. I like Green Malay & Maeng Da blends. Much safer than the carbonated caffeine....and no crash...and non-addicting. Just take a break periodically to avoid tolerance, or better yet change blends. Plenty of online retailers & brands...most legit...just do a little DD. Don't pay more than $30 a 250g or $120/kg.

Anybody know or have contacts with the IL DOL Director, Michael Kleinik? Here’s what he said about workplace fatigue last year, and he specifically mentioned coppers:

Workplace Fatigue Is Nothing to Yawn At

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Department of Labor Director Michael Kleinik joined with state and national safety experts to highlight the serious dangers posed by fatigue in the workplace, a growing problem and a focus of National Safety Month...
...Certain workers are more likely to suffer from workplace fatigue, especially those who work irregular or extended shifts, such as those in transportation, healthcare, police and fire fighters and others whose jobs require rotating shift work. But other factors, such as long commutes and simply not sleeping enough, can contribute to fatigue even for those with regular shifts.

Regardless the cause, workplace fatigue certainly increases the risk of injury and illness on the job. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, accident and injury rates are 18 percent greater during evening shifts and 30 percent greater during night shifts when compared to day shifts. Long shifts – 12-hour days – spike injury risk by almost 40 percent.

7.32pm—Amen to that. You do this job for the officers on your right, your left, in front of you, in back of you. Not for any boss, politician or any citizen. Every copper that’s on the front lines with you.

PS—Fuck You Lori, we all know you read this blog, just like Rahm did

I like how the order itself is dated 24 August 2020 which is Monday.....but you’re telling us TODAY the 27th that rdo’s are cancelled.

Fuck these exempts. Can’t even do the right thing and give actual advance notice. Nobody gives a fuck about us.

The next time you fucking exempts are spewing your bullshit about officer wellness because another CPD Officer committed suicide, remember this. You are ruining marriages, lives, and families and you don’t have the decency to give a couple days notice heads up for things.

It’s not about the days being cancelled you idiots. It’s about treating us like fucking human beings.

8/27/2020 02:32:00 P

These exempts don’t know anything about officer’s wellness or leadership. There are no qualifications for the ranks of commander and above. Anyone can be promoted to a gold star on this job. Just look around.

“So now that I read this post this makes me recircle to my thoughts on CFD. How is it fire works a 24 hour shift but cops can't? Just thinking aloud here. I know a paramedic for CFD and they are busy 24 7.

Are you at all serious? They have time to build the stamina for that shift and can sleep before any call and they are off for days after their shift. Going from 8.5 hours days to 12+ hour days is a huge jump, zero time to wind down, family issues, home maintenance issues the list goes on. What if you're a single parent? How about we let long haul truck drivers drive for 24 hours, recipe for disaster.

I’m all for medical time if you need it, and I’m no company man but keep this in mind...we do what we do because we are called upon. Now that may have meaning to some and it may mean shit to others. I’m all for letting this shit hole burn and have my own plans to leave in A few years. However, I show up everyday for my brother and sister that stands out there and their families. Nothing else. Going on the medical hurts us. No one else. We have to stick together.

8/27/2020 07:32:00 PM

I’m not advocating for not looking out for one another, but you must first & foremost make sure you are not only physically well enough but mentally well enough. People need to pay attention to their bodies & minds. If something is telling you - take a day or two then do it! You can’t take care of your co-worker exhausted, dead or worse- arrested for doing your job because you were too tired to make the best decisions.

Less than 24hr notice. Work 1600-0400 on RDO and double back to start @ 0700 for regular tour. Last time it was 1800-0600 and be back to start @ 0700. How is this allowed? Oh right, “it’s an emergency.” I’ve never seen this department care less for us. It’s only getting worse. Officers are exhausted. Families are broken. The city was lost. Morale couldn’t be further in the toilet. Bosses not willing to fight for their troops for a realistic schedule. Sad how they forgot where they came from. Somebody is going to get killed working these hours. Stay safe, brothers and sisters in blue!

hardship, cause of COVID.
I’ll take all the OT you wanna throw at me and get the
fuck out this year.
Around 60 working days left, but who’s counting.
Good riddance to a bad city.

So my furlough ends today but I added 4 rdo’s for this weekend. Since it’s part of my extended furlough, can they call me in?
Section 23.2 —

Furlough Scheduling
An Officer shall select his or her furlough within the unit of assignment, or if detailed for 28 days or more prior to the date selection begins, within the unit of detail on the basis of seniority among the Officers on the Officer’s assigned watch. Officers may elect to take their full furlough or split the furlough to which they are entitled into two equal segments. Both furloughs, if split, shall be determined in one process and on the basis of seniority. A full furlough will commence on the 1st day of a police period. A split furlough will commence on either the 1st or 15th day of a police period.
Compensatory time furloughs will not be scheduled for Officers who split their annual furloughs; however, such Officers shall be allowed to take a compensatory time furlough by utilizing elective days between regularly-scheduled weekends off, subject to manpower requirements.
Furlough schedules may be adjusted to accommodate seasonal operations, significant revision in organization, work assignments or the number of personnel in particular ranks.
The day-off group of an Officer on furlough (full or split) will not be changed during the remainder of the week in which the Officer is scheduled to return, unless an Officer who is required to work on his or her scheduled day(s) off during that week is compensated by the payment of premium benefits under Article 20 for all hours worked on his or her scheduled day off.
Officers who elect to either split their annual furloughs into two segments or take a full annual furlough will be returned to the day-off group they were in at the time their furlough or furlough segments were selected. Affected Officers will notify their unit commanding officer two (2) weeks prior to the beginning of the furlough segment if their day-off group must be changed to match the
35 original group. The change in day-off group should take place on the Sunday preceding the first day of the furlough segment.

I think I’d submit a statement to W/C that you’re reporting to work per orders given and that you’re doing so under duress ..so if something happens hopefully you’ll be covering you ass..

8/27/2020 02:12:00 PM

I think you'd be sent for a fitness for duty exam. That's one of the dumbest things I've heard. If going to work causes that much duress. Go see a shrink and get a light duty spot

It won’t, you need to go on the medical if you’re exhausted.

Get off work at 0400 and back to work at 0600? I don't think so. Get your sleep and then go to work. What are they going to do, dock you? And if you have a boss with balls, he/or she will carry you for the hours you miss. In fact they would have TOLD you to come in late.

8/27/2020 11:13:00 AM

**Not if you work in the 19th District...Cpt Overtime will reject your slip if it doesn't match your swipes!!! But Im sure the rest of his "Team" will get all the overtime they want including the thief himself. Fuck him..I hear a lawsuit against him is coming out.

I refuse to come in to work due to the mistreatment of blacks by the American criminal justice system not keeping them in jail.

Now that should be CPD’s stance.

No reason to cancel RDO's and implement 12 hours days before Labor Day. No reason at all. CPD is run by a bunch of idiot's!!!!

Once again we have no time due restrictions to go along with the current fuckery. I can burn a slip for a day I'm supposed to be at work but an officer who is rdo has to go in. It would be interesting to see what would happen if I didn't go in for my rdo and took the spar. Then filed a grievance when the subsequent recommended punishment came down. It would be a royal pain in the ass but might eventually win the grievance in 4 or 5 years.

Is there a single good boss on this job? If so, they don’t work in 018, after working in another district and then coming to 018 to see the other side of things it’s clear that that place is run by clowns. When do district bids come out, I’m headed back west.

Good bosses are a thing of the past.
